Hey Chris and Jeff,more recruiting...

  • Are you hearing anything on Torian Graham lately..I know he was still hoping to get
an offer from us. Depending on who leaves we are going to need to sign 3-4 more this
    spring..

Looking more and more likely Graham is going to need to prep or go juco for a year to get his academics in order.

  • Let me ask another question that I do not think anyone has actually given an accurate answer about.

The kid from UCONN--- Oriaki--Can he or can he not come to UK for one season?

He will need to obtain a special waiver from the SEC because the league does not allow one-year transfers. To be honest, the likelihood of that I have no idea.

But UK is on Oriakhi's list.

  • SEC should waiver it, because UK single handedly keep SEC basketball legit.

    LOL,

  • Didn't the Ole Miss quarterback from a couple of years ago do this?

yes, Masoli did. And that is why they changed the rule. Specifically because of this

Many people are saying this rule ONLY applies to football. Can you confirm or deny?

I think (*know*) we sign Bazz, Noel, and if we can get him Bennett. Assuming Cal can get 2 of those 3 he won't sign another player. He may take the transfer, I have no idea on that.

Cal doesn't want to be ten deep. He will have the seven to eight players he wants/needs (in no order):

    1. Harrow
    2. Goodwin
    3. Poythress
    4. Cauley
    5. Wiltjer
    6. Noel
    7. Bazz
    8. Bennett/Oriaki
    9. Hood

If Cal doesn't get Bennett or Oriaki he's not going to fill that hole unless he can get exactly who he wants...that player isn't remaining in this class. He has already let Pollard go (signalling we are going to get Bazz). Cal only wants to go 7/8 deep. That list gives us more than enough players (assuming we get the commitments from 2/3 of the three players we are still recruiting and we WILL get those commitments). Cal has stated many times he isn't going to take ten kids and then have half of them sitting on the bench. He is going to play the most talented players as many minutes as he can get out of them (which is most of the game). His teams and system is so versitle he doesn't need four guards, two or three wings, and four bigs. He needs 7 studs, which he can get,and if he has 8 then fine. So, don't look for him to sign some 4* talent just to fill out the roster, he ain't going to do it.

We are about to completely RELOAD and will be the preseason #1 and we will be a major factor in the March of 2013. We are re-writing the standard as we speak.

  • I know that has been Cal's stance, but it is one stance with which I don't agree. Where would this team be without Miller??? Certainly not cutting down the nets.

I am not saying that he needs to fill the roster just to fill the roster, but I think it's crazy not to get a guy who is willing to develop a year or two to provide good depth if there if foul trouble/injury/etc.

That's where I think some of the lower 4 star guys may have a role on a team loaded with talent. I am hoping that is a role that Jon Hood may move into as well as Derek Willis (if he doesn't end up being a super high level guy by the time he comes to UK).

  • I was also told this weekend that the rule was only in place for football. Haven't verified that yet, and I have no idea why it would apply to only one sport, but that's what I was told by someone who acted like they knew for certain.

Dude just ran off one of the greatest three year stretches ever, capping it off with a title...and YOU still disagree???

To each their own, but at some point I just stop thinking about it and start trusting the coach.

No, he's right. Just because Cal has a final four and a national title in the past three years is no excuse. panic

Cauley fits the bill you're wanting filled. He's a top 40 guy, but still needs to work on his offense to be a real contributor. Sit back, enjoy the ride and maybe you might have a change in opinion. Willis and Hood BOTH represent this mold, though according to the sources here, Hood has developed a killer horse game/flat footed shot, due to his rehab. Give it time, and I'm sure Cal will make you happy.

Beckham, hood, and wiltjer will fill
    That role.

  • I still believe Hood will be a solid player before his time is done. He will play some key minutes and help the team with his maturity and experience down the road. I look forward to seeing him back on the court next year.

You and me both, Jeff. He was very good in high school, and for some reason just hasn't been able to show much on the court in college. (though the injury definitely slowed him down.)

    I agree 100%

    hoptownukfan

  • I had a feeling that I might get a little hammered for my statement, but that's just related to no need to recruit extra players.

Again, I wasn't trying to imply Cal doesn't know what he's doing. I was really just complimenting Miller on how important he was to the success of the team this year.

I do hope to see Hood, Cauley, and Willis fill the role that Miller has.

    UKSanders

  • I don't think it is absolutely necessary, but I wouldn't mind seeing Cal add another guard, as long as they are solid from deep - even if we were to add Noel, Bazz AND Bennett. Maybe a late-bloomer/under-the-radar kid who might be here 3 or 4 years. Having a pure shooter like Doron has kind of spoiled me (and no, I'm not forgetting about Kyle). That would give us 10 schollie guys for practice too.

    1. Harrow
    2. Wiltjer
    3. Hood
    4. Goodwin
    5. Poythress
    6. Cauley
    7. Muhammad
    8. Noel
    9. Bennett
    10. Unknown shooter (TBD)

  • We don't know that Harrow, Bazz, and/or Goodwin won't all be dead eye shooters. I don't think anyone expected Lamb to shoot like he did coming in. With that said, I think it is unfair to expect ANYONE to shoot 48% from 3...except Kyle who I expect to be the first person to ever shoot 60% =)

  • We should ALWAYS question the coach, AD, president, etc... IF we aren't questioning them we aren't keeping them in check.

I agree we only need to play 7-8 the bulk of the minutes but you need 10 legit players to stave off potential injuries.

  • just a thought to consider
North Carolina had 3 significant injuries this year
2 season ending & Henson's late wrist injury slowed him dow
we were blessed with no injuries this year
    How should this factor in?

    dkennedymd

  • Most basketball teams have no significant injuries. UNC had really bad luck. On the other hand, I don't hear anyone outside of Kentucky talking about Derrick Anderson's injury costing us the 97 title any more? We had a better shot with Anderson than Carolina did with all those guys. Even when healthy UNC was up and down this year.
