Highest rated women's recruit in years commits today

  • Linnae Harper 5'6 do it all guard from Chicago Whitney Young committed today. She's a former teammate of UK freshman Janee Thompson and from reading the bios out there on her is an absolute star. Of particular note is this story from the FIBA tournament last year at the U-16, taken from ESPN Hoopgurlz

The USA Basketball girls team (7-2) will take home an honorary FIBA 3x3 bronze medal after an impressive effort in Rimini, Italy.

Approximately one-and-a-half minutes into the girls' semifinal game against host Italy, the U.S. went down to two players after Rebecca Greenwell of Owensboro, Ky., the No. 5 prospect in 2013, suffered a knee injury. The USA's fourth player, Taya Reimer of Fishers, Ind., the No. 4 prospect in 2013, already had been sidelined Friday by a sprained ankle.

The game was delayed by about an hour and 30 minutes before Kaela Davis of Suwanee, Ga., the No. 2 prospect in 2013, and Linnae Harper of Chicago, Ill., No. 6, finished the contest playing two against three. The duo battled Italy into overtime before succumbing by just two points 21-19. Davis finished with 14 points, while Harper added five.

"It was one of the most amazing games I've ever been a part of," said Jamie Carey, USA Basketball assistant women's national team director and girls team leader. "It was unbelievable to watch. This game is hard as it is, and then to play with two people, it was amazing to watch those two girls compete. It seemed like the entire gym was around our court watching the game. Kaela and Linnae couldn't have done anything more, and Taya and Becca were just as into it cheering from the sideline. It was an amazing team moment, and I'm very proud of these players."

Scheduled to play Japan in the bronze medal game, the USA forfeited due to injury and technically finished fourth, however, FIBA recognized the USA's effort and awarded the team honorary bronze medals.

Pretty tough couple of players there and I know we're in the top 3 for Davis as well with UT and UConn. Probably a long shot though because Kaela's brother AJ has committed to play basketball at UT and up until Pat retired she'd always said UT was her dream school.

Also if you go by All Star Girl Report (Bret McCormick's site) we have 2 of the Top 15 recruits in the country and are still after a couple of more. Mitchell is on a serious roll right now.
