Nebraska is a top program. They have LOADS of good football history. They have a reputation of being a running team. They have history of producing crazy running backs. Their facilitiies are stellar. They've been winning much more than we have recently. This was easily a David and Goliath senario......and our rock didn't hit the mark.

Think it is indicative of this staff. This has been a very disappointing staff to say the least when it comes to improving recruiting. I was pushing for CIW to be earlier than later because I thought Joker could recruit to a higher level. Nope, pretty much the same. Try to get on kids late, over sign some 3-4 guys who will never make it to campus to keep your recruiting ranking in the top 60's and than tell everyone at signing day press conference "Trust US" on these kids.
Let's see the kid was committed to UT for a long time, can sell the fact that we need bigger running back, play at least 3-4 teams very other year or year that is 2-3 hour drive from your house. Play in SEC, get back at UT every year for pulling scholly, less than a days drive to Lexington, direct flight to Atl. etc.. We are just not a very good recruiting staff and haven't been for some time, until they want to get serious than you can expect stuff like this.
Heard from a birdie that GA Bulldogs are on verge of offering top OL recruit of UK's scholly. GA is desperate and are looking for OL, maybe happened last night, GA TECh commit is contemplating switching to GA, it would be good for UK if this happens or they will snag the OL commit.
UK just does not recruit as an SEC school should. Make all the excuses you want but evidence is in rankings, standings in recruiting, and play on field. IMO

Bigbluemist,
"Is it better compared to other SEC schools? Probably not."
I would argue that there really isn't that much difference between our classes the last few yrs and the other SEC schools who are typically in the bottom of the SEC in recruiting rankings. An average class rating of 3.06 is not different from 2.96......we are dealing with an imperfect rating system. Our ratings >4-5 yrs ago used to be around 2.35. There could be a big difference between 3.06 and 2.35.
"At the end of the day the bottom line is about wins/losses. Consistent 2-6 records in league play will never get it done."
Is our record to blame due to lack of recruiting or something else? It is possible that it is not the recruiting.....of course it's possible that it is.

Agreed. I think we had a legitimate chance at getting him, but to place blame at our staff's feet for this is ridiculous. This kid could have played most anywhere, but he chose Nebraska and UK. To blame our staff is like a Nebraska bball fan getting pissed at their staff for not beating out UK, UNC, AZ, UCLA, Kansas, etc. for a recruit who isn't from Nebraska and has no ties to the school.

In a way I agree, but at the same time, what good does it do to make these excuses about every big time recruit we are in on, and continue to get none of them?. There will always be Nebraska's, and Bama's and Florida's etc. and they will always look more attractive than us unless something changes. To compete, and get our program where we want it to be, we have to get these kids to comitt to us despite the advantages other programs have over us. Otherwise, we will remain the same. As many have pointed out, Vandy seems to be doing it, and Strong seems to be doing it down the road, meanwhile, by staying the same, we fall further behind. mjdotson, imo, you just pointed out the very reason we are not succesful. Theses other schools are more attractive than UK, and it really doesn't matter why. We either change it, or we don't!
