How did we Lose Imani Cross!!?

  • We have available Pt, not a ton of depth at RB, all his game are very close to home!
I'm not blaming anyone but WTH do we have to do. Always a bridesmaid!!

Henderson, Wales and Madaris.. No chance on Core and no fuzzies on Moncrief.

One other thing, why no Tee Martin tonight

  • We just don't close.

I hate that we lost him from a perception standpoint, but the rest of your post is entirely off base. Clemons, Williams, Sanders, Gainer, George, and Mobley are more than enough. That's why Caffey is moving to corner. IMO Wales was never going to happen outside of a grayshirt after the shoulder injury.

  • Would you rather play football at Nebraska or Kentucky? Pretty simple choice if you ask me. It would be like asking why a kid would choose to play basketball at Kentucky rather than Nebraska. It's a no brainer.

  • We have a very good stable of running backs. Obviously he would have added to that but let's all remember we have the Tennessee record holder coming to Lexington. Not too shabby of a back if you ask me.

  • If you read the latest article on him it looks like we were always second place. I guess Joker and CO did a great job of making it close, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter.

  • Nebraska is a top program. They have LOADS of good football history. They have a reputation of being a running team. They have history of producing crazy running backs. Their facilitiies are stellar. They've been winning much more than we have recently. This was easily a David and Goliath senario......and our rock didn't hit the mark.

Agreed. I think we had a legitimate chance at getting him, but to place blame at our staff's feet for this is ridiculous. This kid could have played most anywhere, but he chose Nebraska and UK. To blame our staff is like a Nebraska bball fan getting pissed at their staff for not beating out UK, UNC, AZ, UCLA, Kansas, etc. for a recruit who isn't from Nebraska and has no ties to the school.

  • Think it is indicative of this staff. This has been a very disappointing staff to say the least when it comes to improving recruiting. I was pushing for CIW to be earlier than later because I thought Joker could recruit to a higher level. Nope, pretty much the same. Try to get on kids late, over sign some 3-4 guys who will never make it to campus to keep your recruiting ranking in the top 60's and than tell everyone at signing day press conference "Trust US" on these kids.

Let's see the kid was committed to UT for a long time, can sell the fact that we need bigger running back, play at least 3-4 teams very other year or year that is 2-3 hour drive from your house. Play in SEC, get back at UT every year for pulling scholly, less than a days drive to Lexington, direct flight to Atl. etc.. We are just not a very good recruiting staff and haven't been for some time, until they want to get serious than you can expect stuff like this.

Heard from a birdie that GA Bulldogs are on verge of offering top OL recruit of UK's scholly. GA is desperate and are looking for OL, maybe happened last night, GA TECh commit is contemplating switching to GA, it would be good for UK if this happens or they will snag the OL commit.

UK just does not recruit as an SEC school should. Make all the excuses you want but evidence is in rankings, standings in recruiting, and play on field.
    IMO

  • Watson will certainly get some big offers in the next couple of days. Adams, who is a self-avowed UGA fan, says he may visit Auburn this weekend (no mention of UGA, but he has been on campus there numerous times). If Adams sticks with GT, UGA and Auburn will likely both go after Watson. AU is the one he won't be able to say no to.

  • Well this is certainly not the news I wanted to wake up to. Oh well....next!

  • I'm not real sure why everyone thinks the sky is falling here. I'll admit that it would have been nice to get Cross and I really thought we had a great shot at doing so. But to be honest, I'm not real sure why we need more than 1 RB in this class. It seems like everytime we turn around we are talking about our current backs transferring because they can't get any PT. Of all of our backs only 2 of them will be juniors or older this year. To be honest I don't know that I would want to be an RB on this team named something other than Clemons. I really hope this kid can stay healthy because I think he can be something really special.

If you don't think recruiting has not improved over the last couple of years I have no idea what to tell you. Go look at the 2008 and 2009 recruiting classes and then come back on here and say everything is still the same.

    I agree with this.

And I truly thought we would land this kid and it hurt last night when I read he was headed to Neb really I was pissed to be honest.

I woke up today and still kinda hurts but then I got to thinking, a few weeks ago I had never heard of him. Plus at less he headed to Neb and not lining up in Uthugs back field against us for the next 4 yrs.

Is it better by UK standards? Probably. Is it better compared to other SEC schools? Probably not.

UK always finishes at the bottom of recruiting rankings. UK always finishes at the bottom of the SEC standings in regards to W/L's. While rankings can be flawed at times, they have proven in UK's case to be a fair picture of where you will finish in the standings.

You have to have high energy guys who can sell your program, unless your Saban!! Freeze is selling the hell out of Ole Miss. Franklin has sold the hell out of Vandy. They are high energy guys who are getting it done.

At the end of the day the bottom line is about wins/losses. Consistent 2-6 records in league play will never get it done.

  • Bigbluemist,

"Is it better compared to other SEC schools? Probably not."

I would argue that there really isn't that much difference between our classes the last few yrs and the other SEC schools who are typically in the bottom of the SEC in recruiting rankings. An average class rating of 3.06 is not different from 2.96......we are dealing with an imperfect rating system. Our ratings >4-5 yrs ago used to be around 2.35. There could be a big difference between 3.06 and 2.35.

"At the end of the day the bottom line is about wins/losses. Consistent 2-6 records in league play will never get it done."

Is our record to blame due to lack of recruiting or something else? It is possible that it is not the recruiting.....of course it's possible that it is.

  • To the OP... We never "had" him so technically we didn't "lose" him.

I saw a team from the 2010 SC game to the 2011 UGA that didn't look prepared. So, it could be something other than the, "Jimmies/Joes."

  • As the old saying' goes.. sh** happens. I wish him luck @ Nebraska, though we coulda used him @ UK.

Unless the number of players at each star level remains essentially constant, a higher average today vs. 5 years ago may not be as big a difference as it looks on the surface. Has there been "grade inflation" in the last 5 years?

In a way I agree, but at the same time, what good does it do to make these excuses about every big time recruit we are in on, and continue to get none of them?. There will always be Nebraska's, and Bama's and Florida's etc. and they will always look more attractive than us unless something changes. To compete, and get our program where we want it to be, we have to get these kids to comitt to us despite the advantages other programs have over us. Otherwise, we will remain the same. As many have pointed out, Vandy seems to be doing it, and Strong seems to be doing it down the road, meanwhile, by staying the same, we fall further behind. mjdotson, imo, you just pointed out the very reason we are not succesful. Theses other schools are more attractive than UK, and it really doesn't matter why. We either change it, or we don't!

    100% agree.

We can't win all the recruiting battles, and certainly we aren't going to win even 40% against the likes of Nebraska. But we have to win some, and so far, all I have seen the last two or three years is same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was . . . .
