  • idk exact numbers but his numbers today were a tad bit better i think

  • I don't think there has ever been a true Center to possess the quickness that Noel possesses both laterally and vertically. He also has cat quick hands. He's a very unique player. He'll be all over the court as a professional. I can't wait to watch him. As he gets stronger he'll really dominant around the basket due mostly to his superb quickness.

  • I swear he should have had at least 10 boards with how often he pulled down the ball.

  • It's kind of interesting, you can attack him as a post player similar to they did with AD.

However, you have high risk of him knocking the ball out. If he masters those two techniques, wow they might just say don't even feed the ball to the post. LOL

I cant believe the # of steals he has so far this season, its incredible that he leads the team and he is almost 7'0 tall. He goes up to block a shot like he was shot out of a cannon. I thought Wiltjer really played well tonight and the team tonight was much better with him in the lineup. He showed a variety of offensive moves tonight and hope he repeats this next time out. Noel, if he continues this type of play will definately go #1 in the draft. Someone in another thread said we dont have a go to guy and I replied that Noel has earned that title with the way he has played in the past several games.

its gonna be great watching him and davis battle against each other in 5 years

    esupp24

  • I think he's actually a much better post defender than Davis. Davis struggled to defend guys one on one down there all season.

    montana81

  • Noel has struggled some defending the post one on one too. But I believe Noel will end up much stronger than Davis in the long run and he's much quicker around the basket. Davis on the other hand has better hands, is more polished offensively, and has a little higher IQ all around IMO. But it will definitely be fun watching them battle in a few years.

  • What about Jarnell Stokes? Is he in a sophomore slump or what? Kid hasn't improved at all at UT. Needs to go ahead and transfer to UK. HA HA.

    tWhit

  • Nerlens Noel is shooting 72.5 percent from the field over his last nine games (37-of-51); Averaging 10.1 pts, 8.9 rbds, 4.7 blks, 2.6 stls

Several things, from what I'm told by people close to that program:

    1) You can't underestimate how much not having Jeronne Maymon alongside has hurt his game. There is no one to take some pressure and attention off him. Opponents no longer have to help off him. He's found the going tough because of that,

    2) He is pouting because Tennessee isn't playing well and he's being asked to work harder and play harder than he's had to in the past. He's raging against the machine to a degree.

  • Thats true I'm sure about Maymon. The UT big that they played inside with him last night is a defensive/rebounding guys only. He provides no offensive threat whatsoever. By the way what happened to Kenny Hall. That kid was a decent player. When he got in the game last night he looked like he completely forgot how to play ball. I think UT has a few that are raging against the machine. Hurt them big time when that big guy fouled out. He's a great hustle guy down low.

Indeed. Noel averaging 2.75 steals per game, while Rondo averaged 2.559. Rondo got his 87 total steals in 34 games.

Matt, you watched AD all of last year, in terms of hand quickness, do you think Noel is quicker? I know Noel doesn't have AD's jumpshot or smoothness in his offense but in terms of importance I think they are both almost equal.

I'm by no means a basketball scout but it does appear to me Noel is better in terms of poking the ball free, picking a guy clean on the perimeter, swiping at the ball before you ever get to point of needing to be able to block a shot. He's phenomenal at that stuff. His instincts may be even better than Davis' on the defensive end. I think Davis was better at closing ground and his timing in terms of blocking shots (and clearly better offensively, which should be expected given he was a guard who grew into his body late) but they do a lot of the same things in terms of affecting a game in ways other than scoring.

The $ is awefully tempting and most of the guys that can do the 1 and done have never seen that much money, I know I havent so if they can get a good contract I say go but it would be great to have seen most of Cals 1 and dones come back for their soph. year. I think that all the freshmen go in the upcoming draft although a couple really do need another season at UK.
