How is it possible...

  • How is it possible that Mobley who set a rushing record (class 5A) in the state of Tennessee is only considered a 2 star recruit? He's certainly got the size. Is it because UT is not in on him? Was that the reason Cobb got overlooked and underrated because if UT does not look at you, he can't be considered that good? Just wondering.

  • Probably because they really haven't evaluated him yet. Think he just received a 5.6 3 star on Rivals,

  • Not sure if I've seen this reported anywhere, but Mobley will take an official visit to Mississippi State Jan. 13.

  • But by then Msu will be looking for a new coach. Mullen is probably a lead canidate for Penn St.

  • Stats are completely irrelevant in the rating process, unless it's a guy who has demonstrated he put up those stats in, say, the best region in Florida or Texas, for example. Otherwise, they're useless.

Cobb was a 3-star (potential All-Conference pick) because of his lack of position. He had to be projected as a WR. Plus, can't properly rate what's in the heart. I think most kids who were underrated had huge hearts.

But Jeff, he did this in the 5A division. Tennessee has pretty good HS football and Cobb was in 3A. They should know about this guy unless he just came out of nowhere and was a back up last year.

  • If TN shows interest at all we can kiss him goodbye unfortunately.

Class size isn't as key as the state in this case. Tennessee and Kentucky are very similar in this regard. There are about a dozen or so elite players in a given year, but the overall talent level drops off severely after that. It's not like a player getting those yards in Class 5A in FLA, TEX, CAL, OHIO, GA, etc. Then the stats would be weighed a little stronger.

That's not to say Mobley isn't good. I like him a lot. He's just considered, for lack of a better term, a "typical" prospect at the position. People often mistake the 2 or 3 stars to mean "bad." It doesn't. Just means "average" in most cases.

Sometimes I don't like recruiting lol. Kid just committed 11-21 and he's already looking to take other visits! gun

Did he have the visit planned before he committed to UK? Is he now a "soft" commit?

NSD can't get here quick enough.

I think Penn St will struggle to hire a decent coach and wouldn't be surprised to see Mullen turn it down.

#1. The scandal that's rocked Penn State.
    #2. Following a coaching legend
#3. Who will be his AD and University President? Both are likely going to be fired when the dust settles.

Him taking visits and looking around could help his rating. You see it fairly often kids getting bumped or downgraded based on who is recruiting them...
