How many and who, will Cal get in the spring

  • I think Cal will definately get 1 and he is Dakari Johnson. Cal also"could" get 1 more and that might be Gordon. I think Johnson is a lock especially if WCS and Noel both put their names in the draft. I think it is possible that Gordon may jump the gun and want to commit earlier in the spring than Randle or Wiggins and if he does UK wont get either Wiggins or Randle. I know Wiggins is Cals #1 target and I hope we get Wiggins above anyone else but if Gordon pops early and Cal accepts his commitment then Wiggins is gone. I know there will be a lot of disagreement with what I said but thats the fun of this site in seeing different points of view. So what are your thoughts and please keep it clean.

Sleepy respectfully asked for "Civil" responses. If you do not have a civil response then there are other threads available.
    Just sayin......

Also, recruiting is a dynamic process. The coaches / recruiters are constantly evaluating and reevaluating their recruiting boards/options......So why is this not a topic that also merits periodic review?

For what it's worth, I believe Johnson and Gordon pop first unless Cal has them hold back for a while.
Any combination of gets of those four mentioned are good........I do not believe Wiggins will feel threatened by anyone, SO believe we can get those 3 and Randle goes elsewhere. Just my opinion.

  • Seems everyone is buying into the Randle going elsewhere hype... There is way too much time and we were in too strong a position to just write him off.

If we could sign Randle and Wiggins it would easily be the best class ever and would probably never again be equalled.

  • So nice I said it twice.

I think Chris pretty much said it all. I for 1 am not ruling Randle out but like Chris said Wiggins is the top target by a mile and I also believe Randle wont come if Wiggins pops for KY. Dont get me wrong, I would love both Randle and Wiggins b/c that would be such a team that no one would ever match that group of freshmen and unless they just dont show up for a game they will win against all comers. But we must face reality and that is that both will never be at UK at the same time. I think if Johnson commits then the 2nd commit is very possible whether its Gordon or Wiggins with Wiggins being the preference of the 2. Johnson is a center and both Gordon and Wiggins are SFs so there wouldnt be a conflict of positions.

  • I didn't realize that was the conflict...I thought Wiggins was at the three, Randle four and the rest at the five...oh well, it's going to be a GREAT class whoever rounds it out.

I dont think its the position that matters as far as Wiggins and Randle goes because both could coexist on the same team if it was just a matter of position. When I mentioned position conflicks it was in reference to Johnson(a center) and Gordon/Wiggins being SFs. There wouldnt be a conflict of position between Johnson and the other 2. I didnt mean to infer that the conflict or the lack thereof included Randle. Most people that know a million times more than I do have stated that Randle and Wiggins wouldnt be likely to play tor UK at the same time. Thanks for responding

Gordon is an interesting and probably the most versatile player in this class. I saw the game with Gordon's team against the Twins Texas team. Gordon was VERY impressive in that he can guard almost anyone on the floor.........and enjoys it. He has a non-stop motor and a great team attitude PLUS he loves to rebound the ball (much like Kidd-Gilchrist). So, in my opinion, there is no conflict between Gordon and Wiggins being on the floor at the same time. The more I see Gordon play, the more I like his game.

Gordon is like Kidd-Gilchrist but more athletic by a little. They both can defend the 1-4 positions and both have "that motor" that goes on and on. They both can rebound and like to do so but a slight difference in the 2 is that IMO Gordon is a better shooter from mid range by just a little. In the end I would be very happy with any combination of the 4 we still have a chance to get or just 1 of them.

Your sense of "me" and ability of playing well with others needs some work though.

Watching Gordan the other night on TV against the twins, I liked what I saw, not a big KG comparsion but I do like the way he plays on the floor. If Wiggins and Randle both wait until spring and the rest do too, the writing is on the wall for who Cal is waiting on.

I think that Johnson coming to KY has nothing to do with the other 3 recruits still considering UK. Johnson is a center in all aspects and would never play at the 4 unless there was an emergency need. So the question is who is the possible 2nd recruit to pop for the Cats. I hope its Wiggins but it could be Gordon. If you havent read the story that was posted today about Gordon then that may help in estimating KYs chances with him. I just dont think Randle will land at UK unless the planets align in perfect formation. I think he really likes UK and Cal so it isnt impossible that he comes but it will probably come down who pulls the trigger first to commit and that will IMO make the decision for the other 2 players as to where they go.

  • If you want to see some links regarding Johnson take a look at the "Dakari Johnson down to three". I have put a couple of links in my posts on there that you may like to take a look at. Enjoy
