How many years can UGA allow...

  • ... Richt to underachieve the way he does?

All that talent in the state of Georgia, ranked recruiting classes every year, and nothing to show for it.

  • Aaron Murray is 5-10 for 36yds, I expect Richt to place a recruiting call to Mossakowski at halftime.

  • Murray sucks, no pocket presence.

  • Georgia might want to find a proven head coach after they part ways with Richt. Hiring coordinators, Goff and RIcht, hasn't seemed to work out very well. But, to answer the posed question from Jeff...I would think he has to be on thin ice with a short rope around his neck this year.

  • No silver britches was a fireable offense coming INTO this game. The Bulldogs' performance just magnifies it.

  • I just don't understand how Georgia can't compete with the big boys year in and year out when they always have the most talent on the field.

    Jared Bonshire

  • UGa is the biggest underachieving team in the country. They look awful tonight. It's time for the Dawgs and Richt to part ways. Georgia is a sleeping giant. No reason they don't compete for SEC and BCS titles every year.

  • Throw UGA in the same boat with ND. Overrated year after year after year.

Only there's even less excuse at UGA, where they have a top four recruiting base in the entire country. There are legit circumstances for ND that make it more difficult.

  • The worst part about this game is now Boise has been crowned national champions. I asked on the other board:

"You think they'd put up 5TDs and ~400 yards on LSU or Alabama? You think they'd win a shootout with Arkansas? You think they could do those things after playing 3 rank teams in a row?"

And I got back: "Yes this Boise team can score on anybody and they play tough ball. They just punked UGA in front of 70,000 hostile fans and beat a Coach on the hot seat."

You hit the nail on the head. They're VERY good and capable of beating anyone in the SEC on a given day. But not the next week and the week after that and the week after that.

The gauntlet is what gets you in the SEC.

  • I agree. No doubt they are a top 25 team, but I think it's silly to assume they can compete with even an "easy" SEC schedule like Kentucky has this year.

Back to Georgia and Richt: Does 6-6 and a bowl finally send him packing? They have gimmie wins against Coastal Carolina and New Mexico State, but that still leaves them needing 3 SEC wins and a W over Georgia Tech. They have USC, MSU, AU, KY at home and Ole Miss, Tenn, Vandy, and FL (Neutral) on the road.

They likely beat KY, Vandy, and Ole Miss but I'm not sure they'll be favored in another other games.

    Nix112

  • Richt will be all but done at Jawja after losing to Carolina next week.

    JDHoss

  • I think UGA goes 5-7 and Richt finally gets the axe.

I do not see UGa winning 6 games. I know it's week 1, but I went to the GT game Thursday night and the Dawgs are not beating the 'Jackets. That would be two OOC losses, which is a recipe for disaster in the SEC. After the beat down SCe will administer next week, the boys in the silver britches will be reeling and Richt's seat will be red-hot. Not a good situation going forward. But, they get the right coach and they'll be competing for SEC and BCS titles in pretty short order.

UGA will struggle to win 6 games. I don't see it happening which means at the end of the season the W last night won't mean as much. It will be a quality road win. I will give them credit for beating an SEC team on the road. That is not an easy thing to do, and UGA is a very talented football team, but like I said, the win will lose most of it's thunder after UGA losses 6-7 games.

  • UGA was the choice among many to win the East this year. After being exposed last night, coupled with USCjr's apparent lack of a defense, you would have to think that the East could be a wide open race this year.

If Kentucky could get the issues ironed out with it's offense and find a couple a dependable play makers we could be right in the thick of it this year.

I just don't understand how Georgia can't compete with the big boys year in and year out when they always have the most talent on the field.

UT is the most underachieving SEC school at first blush. remember they had like 12 four stars a couple of years ago. you can quibble about it but it is close to that number maybe they only have 4 this year but how many 4 stars do we have on the commitment board and WHAT COULD UK DO WITH THAT MANY 4 STARS?

    ukfit

  • Why cant UT compete with the talent they get?
They might have beaten us 25 years in a row but what have they done against the top teams?
    UT is pretty dang underachieving.

    ukfit

  • They love Richt and I hope they keep him forever. They are a TITAN waiting to be woken up and instead they get coaches that suck but recruit well. They should be the #2 team in the East every year if not #1. No excuse for them other than pathetic coaching and an administration that doesn't care. They still get the $$$$ just the same.

i guess i just do not understand this line of thinking. how do you know this. the only evidence that Boise has and can present to you is the fact that everytime they play a big time opponent on a supposedly neutral field they win (Oklahoma, Va. Tech, Georgia), quite often when they play a BCS team at their joint they win (Oregon, Oregon St) and you know what happens to BCS teams when they play on the smurf turf . . . they lose (Oregon, Oregon St.)

this team beats most everybody they are matched up against. to expect them to play 3 top 10's in their non conference to prove their worth is rediculous, hell the Big 10 schools never do that in their entire season

this team wins period. . . last night was not a fluke. they were the better team. if they out class and out coach UGA whos to say they would not be able to do the same to UK, Vandy, UT in successive weeks, not exactly murders row. their only 2 hurdles to claiming the SEC East this year would be USCjr and UF, both of which Boise has more than a fighters chance against.

i cringe at the thought of what the score would be if UK played Boise either in Lexington, Boise or a neutral site.

    goldenbearcatz

  • Goldenbearcatz, do you really put that little emphasis on depth? You don't think that injuries to the starters of Boise would hurt them at all if they had to play an SEC schedule? And it's not just UK, Vandy, UT, UF, UGA, Scar that they'd have to play against but also the likes of Bama, LSU, Ark, Miss St, Aub, etc... The biggest hindrance to UK over the years has been lack of quality depth. We've had first teamers that could've played for anyone and gave us a sluggers chance in years past. But when they get tired or injured and our backups have had to come in is when we have lost many a game. Depth is the difference between the likes of Bama, UF, LSU, Ark, etc...

  • I think this is Richt's last year. He's already lost the fanbase and doesn't have any positive momentum at all.

I don't really understand what happened with him. The first part of his stint there saw a lot of success, and then the program started sliding.

Not a bad argument you make there. You're right, it's just a guess at best.

On the other side of the coin, that was Boise's first win in five chances versus an SEC team, and it was not one of the elite. UGA will end up in the bottom third of the league this year IMO.

  • no i get the depth argument, but are Boise players more likely to get hurt playing SEC teams than any other teams in D1 football. maybe yes maybe no, but that is really tough to quantify and is just a best guess at this point.

also Boise was down 2 starters last night, i believe, and their subs looked just fine against a quality opponent.

and if you look at what Boise has done over the years there depth and development of young players has been really good.

there offense looked really good last night and they were replacing Titus Young and Austin Pettis at WR, they have quality depth and display it time and again, year after year.
