I Can't Believe No One Has Said Much about

  • I will also add that if I'm a coach at another school that is recruiting the same player as Petrino whenever he lands another job, I will crush him like a bug by making sure the parents know every little sordid detail of his follies.....and the beauty of it is that I won't even have to make any of it up........

To quote Dwight Yoakam, "I ain't that lonely yet" ... and never will be.

I'm not so sure......even the "fat girls" look good at closing time..... I would be willing to take the chance, as long as, I could sneak out before daybreak!

  • HC probably not at this stage. Now lets say Joker has a .500 year and Petrino gets no offers. Sanders is pretty close to moving on, so would you get him as an OC? Personally I would. I dont like him, never have. That doesnt stop me one bit. I would kick my mother in the stomach to win a Championship for UK football.

That's a good point. I think that whereever Petrino lands, recruiting will be a little more difficult than it has. Parents (and high school coaches) will question whether Petrino is the man they want leading, teaching, and developing their son for four or five years.

Here is the problem with hiring Petrino in ANY capacity. He put the University of Arkansas and the administration at risk for an unbelievably big lawsuit. Forget about his infidelity for a moment, the man hired his mistress for a job that others were way more qualified for, that opens the door for a suit by each person better qualified for the job. It also opens the door for anyone else that worked in the football office, they can claim she got preferential treatment.

Now all that is why Petrino was fired almost immediately. There isn't an AD or President in the country that would retain any coach that did that and that''s why he won't be employed on the D1 level unless you have an AD that's desperate.

Now one final question. What do you think would have happened when that relationship ended? The potential consequences of a bad break-up would be an absolute nightmare.

  • I don't know Petrino at all. But if his misdeeds (not conclusions or opinions) have been noted in this post, then I believe the reaction here is typically over the top. I was beginning to think Petrino had murdered and dismembered someone, possibly eating some of the parts. We should think before casting aspersions on someone's character. He apparently is a rich celebrity who cheated on his wife. Not good. But no reason to make him a pariah. If that were the rule, most cities would be empty.shrug

Good grief man nobody gives a crap who BP is banging on the side, he could have a dozen side pieces and nobody would care. But when a person is stupid enough to hire them in their department, give them cash under the table, and put the entire university at risk for a huge lawsuit....that just isn't gonna fly, not anywhere.

  • I get your point in that aspect but IMO I am willing to take the chance that he wouldn't do something like that again. I would trade him leaving in 2 or 3 years for a NC. It's a crapshoot and I understand that. I am just one of those people that is willing to take that chance. No way I ever see UK take a chance like this but if I were running things then I would consider it. I guess that's why I'm talking on a message board and not running things. Haha.

    Exactly.

    This drives me insane:

argument: A isn't worth getting upset over

cross/rebuttal of argument: Agreed that A is not worth being upset over. However, B is worth being upset over because of 1.), 2.), 3.), 4.) and 5.)

redirect of cross/rebuttal of argument: A isn't worth getting upset over.

Oh for the love of.....I'll state this again. Bobby Petrino wasn't fired because he was doing the horizontal bop with someone other than his wife. If he had been banging someone in his own social circle, or even the cutie behind the counter down at the Krispy Kreme, he would still be coaching at Arkansas. Instead, he was:

    * Boinking another employee in the athletic department that was engaged to another employee of the athletic department.

    * Petrino was already boinking said lady when he PERSONALLY HIRED her into a $50K a year job with a $20K bonus over DOZENS of VASTLY MORE QUALIFIED applicants, and putting UA at the risk of numerous lawsuits.

    * He tried to involve a friend who works for the Arkansas State Police to cover up his mess.

    * He stood at a podium and lied thru his teeth to his family, boss, players, fans and media about the accident.

    * In addition to using a UA issued cell phone to make nearly 4000 texts and over 300 phone calls to his mistress, and topped it off by sending over 200 texts to another hottie "friend" of his in Little Rock, including some that were supposedly nude photos of himself.

All of this on top of him being a pathological liar and screwing over EVERYONE who has ever employed him as a head coach.

What is it that people are failing to understand here?

    JDHoss

  • irrelevant discussion. this Nov & Dec he will have much better opportunities than coaching at the University of Kentucky. I fear one of those will be south of us in Knoxville. Say all that you will about his personal (lack of) character, but the man is a beast of a football coach. 41-9 in 4 years at UL, including kicking our head in every chance. 21-5 and a BCS bowl the last 2 seasons at Arkansas. While running an entertaining high scoring attacking offense, and putting guys in the NFL. Oh and all the negative things you can say about him, one that you can't say is suspicion of NCAA cheating. Never a hint of that in his past.

^ I get that, and if I thought he would do it again, I would never consider hiring him. Fact is though, someone will hire him and likely get the benefit of a great coach who has been humbled to the point of avoiding "extracurricular activities." As always though, UK will play the conservative card and remain a mediocre bottom feeder. Personally, I can't stand Petrino, and in most cases would never support hiring a guy of his charachter, but at some point, if UK football wants to be succesful, it will have to take some chances, something we've apparently been unwilling to do for a long time.

Taking chances gets you Fran Curci and Hal Mumme. Being conservative gets you Bill Curry.

Eventually you have to acknowledge the fact that there is a larger problem with UK Football than just a simple matter of a coach or an athletic department. If it was just about writing a check or "hiring the right guy' we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. Frankly, I'm starting to suspect that UK doesn't belong in the SEC not because it can't compete but because the obstacles to success are so great, so ingrained and so wide ranging that either a. you need to be happy with a 7 win season and a minor bowl game in the BEST of seasons or b. find a new outlet for your Saturday's in the Fall.

I don't think he will.....and I think many are vastly overrating how effective he will be when he eventually returns. In fact, I don't look for him to ever be at another major Southern university. Football recruiting in the South is cutthroat as is, and hiring a guy like Petrino anytime soon would be hiring a guy who is already hemorrhaging.

Please give me your short list...UK has been known as a coaching graveyard for decades, our only shot at this point is to find a coach who is innovative and would pour his heart into the program...I think Joker would be the choice in the latter part of that statement but I'm just not convinced he is the guy for the job. It's a dilemma, always has been and always will be. I do understand that if CJP could get things going then he would be the guy, I just feel he has too many things going against him at this point.

Petrino is a scumbag but he is one hell of a coach. Urban Meyer is scum to me as is Steve Spurrier, you can also lump Chizik and several other coaches into the group. I want to see a winner before I die and I guess I've been following this program for so damned long that I can look past some things in a coaches personal history. College football is corrupt and it gets worse every single season...to think that we can sit back and wait for a coach who shits lillies and wins nine games a year is ridiculous. That's the problem with UK fans, we're probably the most optimistic in the country heading into the year and the most pissed off when November rolls around.

I hope Joker does it but I do not expect it and most of you don't either. To think that another no-name coach would come in here and turn this thing around in the next decade is stupid, it just won't happen. We need a coach with a name and a game, someone with a proven track record no matter what his history may be. Will it happen here? No, and that is sad, especially for the guys who live and breathe football. This crap would never happen with basketball but it's just a way of life with our football team. It's freakin' sad that someone could love UK football so much as to follow it with the same results every season but I and many others still do.

So JD, please tell me who in the hell would step into this mess and fix it in the next ten years...it's not going to happen.

    rob65

  • What mess are you speaking of? They're just coming out of the best sustained 5-6 years in the last 50-60 years of the program. They had a bad year. One. Give this staff an opportunity to bounce back, and if they fail, then we'll talk about other coaches.

All I'm telling you is there are qualified men of character and dignity coaching this game from coast to coast at many levels. There are PLENTY of people out there who can coach this game and do it the right way without disgracing the university. To suggest that there aren't, and that you have to turn to a scumbag of a human being like Petrino is embarrassing IMHO.

I'm not telling you I know who they are. I'm saying they're out there. If UK had an opening, it would be up to someone in charge to dig in and find them. UofL's current coach -- who people around here seem to gush about -- would have taken this job in a heartbeat had Barnhart offered it a few years ago. Almost any top assistant in the SEC would be here on the next plane if the head coaching position was available.

You guys act like Bobby Petrino invented the game. There were good coaches before him. There will be good coaches after him. And minus the douche baggage.

I'm almost in disbelief that this is an actual topic on this message board.
