I don't think we have time to let Goodwin

  • learn how to play this game.

  • me niether...his turnovers r all at the wrong time and usually come when he tries to do something himself instead of playing within the team...when he plays within the team hes an unbelievable scorer one of the best at scoring the ball but when he goes into that im gonna score right here no matter what the flow of the game calls for or what the play call is or if anyone else is open it just kills us...but i think with a down sec we will go 12-4 and end 23-8 with an sec tournemnet champ

  • If your game is driving and slashing, you better be darn good at hitting layups.

  • I'd love to see Archie work harder on his mid range game. He has lots of opportunities for 8-12 ft jumpers, but seems like he almost always wants to force it all the way to the rim.

This ^^^.. If he would pull up on occassion and hit that midrange shot, it'd make his driving to the rim that much easier, because you'd have to respect it.. His main problem is simply playing out of control and that'll drive you crazy, but, at times, he looks great penetrating and finishing.. One thing for sure, he has to be in the game late, because he's one of few that can consistently hit a f/t..

  • In case you didn't notice we have 3 guys who can hit a bucket. Noel and Cauley Stein are extremely limited offensive players. Poythress looks like a miss and is not interested in what is going on. Harrow, Archie, and WIltjer are guys who you can run some offense through. Archie's drives and 3 point shooting almost pulled this out for us. This is a very unbalanced team and to be successful he has to take the ball to the bucket.

  • Of course we have time.

LOL, we will wait till much later. He is skilled very skilled, he needs that floater that Harrow has.

Our players are all freshmen, we always have time to let them develop. The fact that Goodwin plays hard is good, he will develop from that.

  • Also the fact that he knew he should have called a timeout when he got into trouble on his last bad pass tells me he is learning. He was worried that his team did not have a timeout left and didn't want a technical. This can be solved by better listening in the huddle and knowing when its a bad time to penetrate. I also wish that Archie would pull up for more short jumpers, he is accurate with that shot.

  • Goodwin thinks he is still in high school where he is the maga star that can beat the entire other teams defense on a drive. The kid has loads of talent but is completely out of control. Poythress is an enigma he looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane. Heck sometimes even Jane would put out more effort at what she puts out. IMO Calipari is completely frustrated with Poythress.

PG Harrow had a coming out party but in the stretch that decided the UofL game he and most of the team looked like deer in headlights and let the UofL pressure decide the game. I however liked the fight they showed coming back and hope they grew up some from that struggle.

I am still optimistic that this team can continue to improve and be a tough out in March but they still have some growing to do before that happens.

They must learn that the lazy passes that they threw in high school will be going the other way against teams like UofL.

What can one say about the foul shooting. When you shoot from the foul line like that against good teams you should lose. They left 10 to 15 points on the foul line. I expect that we are going to see a lot of hack a Shaq type tactics against the two big men Stein and Noel and Poythress bricked his share.

  • He knows how to play the game. He's very talented. He just has to understand "he's not the man" anymore. We have a whole team of them.

No! He knows how to play the HS game. He does not know how to play as a team. And he is no closer to it than his first game.

  • Archie is a special talent that will shine nationally as soon as Coach can focus on him as he did with Ryan.

  • I understand where some of the frustration comes from, but most of it is not justified. I guess some will just ignore big shot after big shot he made last night.

I am going to have patience with this team and let Cal do his coaching magic. If it is there (the will to improve) Cal will get
it from that player be it Goodwin, Poythress, or whoever. I will sit back and enjoy watching the improvements being made
    within the team and individuals.

I don't understand it. Can you explain it to me. Of all the people to be frustrated with in this game Archie is 4th or 5th on my list behind Poy and Mays especially.

  • First, I think Archie KNOWS he's not in HS anymore. I think all of them know that. I do think that each player has their own learning curve. As a teacher and coach myself, I know that. Not each student/player learns at the same rate the same way. All 5 starters were not on this team last year. We saw how much they have improved over the last two weeks. Did he make some bad plays last night? Yes! Did he make some good plays last night? Yes. That is why he is a freshman. He started playing shooting guard, then point guard, now back to shooting guard. In light of all of that, I think he is showing improvement. Now sit back and enjoy the ride. This team will continue to get better. They will still make bonehead plays. However, they will get better and surprise you!

Thank you.....good words spoken! So glad I don't live in Kentucky anymore because there seems to be a "dark cloud of negativity" that hangs over the entire State...like no place I have ever lived.

This! At least Archie is playing hard and that goes for Noel and WCS as well. Poythress on the other hand is not. Thats the only sin on the basketball court that I can't forgive and I would bet Cal feels the same way.

I see why people get frustrated because he's a freshman and every year one or two guys become the focal point of some fan's displeasure. Archie has become one of those guys. That's not the case for me.

Anyway, Archie is a scorer who was forced out of position early and has had to adjust back to his natural position. It's clearly thrown him off some. He doesn't take I'll-advised shots really, but he does occasionally try to hard to draw a foul. That results in him throwing some wild shot up. People don't see it that way and take him for being a TO prone ball hog.

Personally, Archie Goodwin is my favorite player on this team. He has room to grow, but what freshman doesn't? That's where I get fed up with some of the criticism from fans. They want these freshman to play like Seniors in only their twelfth game. That's just an unrealistic expectation.

My expectations for this season were high. They still are and have never wavered even with four losses because I understood the fact that things could go this way. That will be the case next year as well.

I feel the same way. I love Arch. He's a scorer. Early in the careers of every scorer they take bad shots and look out of control. Go back and look at Kobe and others early in their NBA careers. Its the same thing. But Archie hasn't even been that bad plus as people have pointed out the switch from 2 to point back to the 2 screwed him up a little. He's trying to find himself. He had a couple of huge takes to the basket for us. I don't know what people are thinking cause without him this team has no chance. The kid plays hard. They are all learning their roles with Harrow back at point and back in the swing of things. This team is going to start to take off. On nights when Poy has it going they'll be unbeatable. They all need to find some consistency and I suspect they will by March. I really feel good about this team now that Harrow is back. I was worried that he might not be back when all that went down with him. Then I didn't know how long it would take him to get back to his normal self. Turns out the kid is a fighter and got himself back really quickly. I'm behind him and this team 100%.

  • Right, all scorers have to learn to adjust to the higher labels of basketball when everybody on their team was the best player on their teams the level below. The whole team will continue to get better. Lets just hope than improvement happens during wins.

Every state has fans just like the state of KY has. I live in SC during the winter. I have been to every state and every school has fans who will say the same things if there school looses.

Try living in the south if you win the NC in football 2 yrs later you are fired. lol. (Auburn)

Thats just the way it is in the USA. Its all about me me me and now.
