I hate to say it but...

  • Louisville is the best team in the country right now and is my favorite to win the national title. Siva and Russ Smith(sort of an even smaller Kemba Walker) are the best backcourt tandem on both sides of the court in the country. Pitino's guards always play great D but rarely does he have a shot blocker in the middle like Dieng. This years team has that. So if for some reason you beat the UofL guards you still have to face the big man and finish over him. I really hate to say this but I foresee them winning the national title. And I really hope by saying this I have completely jinxed their asses. There is not team like UK last year to stop them this year. IU is a tad bit on the soft side and I think UL would out tough them. The only thing that I could see stopping UofL is if they run into a game against a quality team that can handle their pressure where the refs are calling the game super tight. That could get them beat. Otherwise they win it all this year.

  • I am a Cat fan first, but also respect the Cards. This year's Louisville team has been fun to watch, and if you can put aside rivalries and just think of it as good college basketball, you'd see that these guys do have what it takes to win the National Championship. Siva is just an all around great person and a leader who comes through in clutch situations, Smith has that "I can do anything" attitude of so many former Cats, Deing is quite possibly one of the most intelligent college players around (he speaks about 10 languages, came to Louisville barely able to communicate, and is still just learning the game yet he dominates from time to time), Ware, Hancock are clutch players and Harrell came into his own last night. No matter who we have next year, Harrell will be a force.

It can't be bad for our state if Louisville takes it all, so let's not be haters. Let's also remember that Louisville took out Florida last year, and I'd have much rather played Louisville in that game last March 31 than Florida. In my mind, Louisville had an assist with that one in our march to the National Championship.

I'd much rather see Louisville as National Champions in 2013 (if it can't be the Cats) than IU. Crean is becoming as unlikeable as Bobby Knight.

    Let the down votes begin.

  • I think they've got a good shot, but they are not a dominating team. The dance is always about match ups and there are some teams that could be match up problems for them. I think this tourney will be more wide open than years past

    FORGET ALL OF THAT!

I'm simply speaking from a perspective of who I think the best team in the country is. I hope Louisville is the first 1 seed to lose to a 16 seed. That would be the greatest thing ever. I wish nothing but ill will towards that program. I can't stand them or their fans. The only thing good for this state is when BIG BLUE has success.

  • Ill rotate titles with the Cards. It's good for the state of Kentucky when one of our teams wins.

    BlueGhost

  • I don't care how good it is for the state of Kentucky, my two favorite teams are the cats and whoever is playing Louisville. I've never seen a bama fan rooting for auburn, and when I lived in Texas, I witnessed the blood feud between the longhorns and aggies. Same thing in my book between the cats and cards and yes, it is shallow and childish but that is what being a fan is all about!!!!!!!

    ukaveman

  • I hope Louisville loses every game they play. If they do end up winning it all this year, (which I doubt) at least I live 1000 miles away and wont have to listen to it...

    This. To hell with UL.

  • I think UL is as good as anyone else this year, but I can say that of about 10 teams. If there is one thing in their favor, its that they are due - UL is on a 27 year drought and Pitino is 1 for 27 in his bid for a NC as a head coach.

I'm taking the field in this one.

    Lapcat86

  • Lets not forget the Syracus team they beat was struggling something awful before the big east tourney they are not an elite team. I think Gonzaga is the team to beat this year.

    quagmire

  • The problem was that they were down 16 points.

Also, Syracuse hasn't been really good recently.

I think Louisville is one of the top teams, and favorite to win. However, Russ Smith and Peyton Siva both can lose you game.

I also like Kansas, Ben Mclemore and WIthey. Interior and exterior combo. With nice role players around them.

  • Wouldn't doubt that Kansas vs Louisville will decide it at some point. Could be in the final four or the National title game but it will be the de facto national title game either way.

Can't believe people are still buying Gonzaga. Give me a break. I would love to see it but it ain't gonna happen.

  • Cosign. Louisville is the best team in the country. Going to take a stinker on their part or a monumental effort from someone else to beat them. Think they are head and shoulders above everyone else heading into the tournament.

But as we all know, anything can happen.

I agree that UofLOL is playin as well as anyone right now but I cant agree with you that they are the best backcourt in college hoops. Imo the backcourts of Burke/Hardaway jr at Mich and Larkin/Scott at Miami are both better. Siva can be wildly inconsistant at times and Smith can and has lost them games with terrible decision making. Mich St. may not have a better backcourt than UofLOL but Appling and that backcourt may be the most underrated in the country.

Loserville will suffer the same fate as always (depending of course on their draw) by running into a team that can handle their press. If they cant press you, and get away with big east prison ball, they really struggle to score at times. They have to get around 20 points or so per game of turnovers to win. Take that away and they will get bounced. I dont think Gonzaga will win it all but a very strong fundamental and disciplined team like that will cause problems for the Tards.

  • Uofl is really good if the officials allow them to mug the opposing team. If you watched the uofl run last night it centered around the refs allowing them to clutch, grab and push.

If they run into a team with good guard play and the officials call the game tight then they will lose. Traditionally officials don't allow as much clutching and grabbing in the NCAA tournament. If they don't then uofl can't win a title.

Your spot on Hop. If you look, every year the Big East gets anywhere from 7-9 teams in the tourney. ..and that number usually drops to 3 or less after the first weekend. They are allowed to play a certain way in thay conf and its typically not called thay way outside of Big East play.

With Louisville it just boils down to how the game is officiated. If its a brawl they win every time. If the officials call it tight they could lose to an 8 seed

  • I also pointed out in my OP that the style of officiating is going to make a big difference for UofL. But they played the same way last year and if not for us stopping them in the final four they probably win the title last year with the same team. We'll see how focused they are this year and how their draw end up shaking out. All things equal though I do believe they are the best team in the country.

  • No one gets the BIG HEAD like the Cardinals. This wiil be a repeat of the last time they were the overall #1 in the tourney.
That year, they actually made t-shirts about being the "Overall # 1 Seed". Look for them in stores tomorrow in Jefferson County.
They will win some games big and start showing off.
And just like that year they will lose to Michigan State in the Elite Eight in Indianapolis.

They're always after me Lucky Charms.
