Idaho fires football coach

  • their coach after 1-7 start. AD and President want to get an early start on the coaching search instead of waiting to until later.

  • This is crazy. I'm actually an Idaho student right now.. their coach isn't all that good, obviously. I've watched their practices, and they have some good players. Just not a good coach. Crazy.

  • Way too familiar. They've gotten beat horribly by almost everyone they've played (except New Mexico State, I think). The last game was 70-21 or something like that to Louisiana Tech.

    Didn't Idaho go to a bowl game a couple of years ago?

    Yeah, they won the Humanitarian Bowl, and went 8-5 two seasons ago.

  • Mitch has told those around him that he isn't making the BCG mistake again. He's not getting rid of a coach, or giving a coach an quid-pro-quo as he did Guy Morris & Tubby again unless he has a replacement who has expressed interest.

    I understand what your saying Hop. But the big difference now is that UK isn't on probation and a bowl ban. There's no way Mitch doesn't have several option for HC position in football this time around. He just needs to take the time and make the right hire instead waiting until December IMO.

  • No way Mitch will make a move before the season is over if then. If the later happens I think the season ticket sales will plummet, but maybe Im wrong.surrenderlol

  • Waiting for December is going to hurt recruiting big time. and with Auburn, Tenn, and Arkansas sitting in the same boat as we are I don't think we can afford to wait because those other schools are going to go after whomever they want. They will not be stingy.

    If Mitch/UK really aren't focused on a Championship Level coaching hire...It matters not what AUB , UT or ARK do....or when UK decides to do something.

    Mitch can just wait it out...To see if there's still a chance to keep Joker (should the Cats find a way to win 3more games - it's a stone cold lock!)....While also waiting for the FCS play-offs to get underway, before finding his next tin man to place at the helm, to sell to a beleaguered BigBlue fan base.

    And a young guy working w/ next to nothing in the facilities dept (as compared to the SEC - even UK)...And making $300K or less, will jump all over UK's $950K-1M/yr offer, thinking he could possibly win w/o improvements to the current facilities. (Thus enabling UKAA's cash cow to be milked for 3 more yrs!)

    I'd say Mitch knows he has to hit a homerun with the next hire. If he hire's some young up and comer no name, things could get very ugly. Or maybe I should say they will get even uglier.

  • Judging by facility upgrades, blue-white game promotion, fan day promotion, UK-UL pregame hoopla, Joker hire...I doubt I will be overwhelmed by Mitch's next FB coach hire.

    Until we hear a bonafide kick ass selection committee is announced, I won't trust Mitch alone to hire Jerry DiNardo.

  • Is it possible Mitch could have something in play with a coach but both sides keeping it under wraps until later in the year? Or is that out of the question? Of course there would need to be permission from the other school so it would be difficult to keep hushed so I realize it's doubtful. But everyone keeps saying he needs to move now. If he is wanting go after someone at another school that'd be rough during the season. That would mess the other school up and what little this team here has to work with this year would be out the window.
    Too far fetched?
