If you're a WVU fan

  • Are you going to be excited driving 1140 miles to watch a game in Norman, OK? This makes absolutely no sense to me. Culturally and traditionally, I can't see Morgantown, WV having much in common with any town in the Big 12. I guess it's just all about the money.

  • The sounds of grown men crying emanating from Louisville has brought a smile to my face this morning. lol

    This

Frankly it makes no sense and the fans have to hate the geographic challenges but seeing UL hurt is pure joy to me.

Well, I'd say maybe not if you go to lots of away games. But typically there's a group of us that try to make it to one away game a year so if you're in that category it might be nice to go to some new areas. But then again, I've been living in FL, north OH, and now GA so it's not like I don't have to travel for most games I come to as it is.

The bigger thing might be for them to get to watch the games on TV and to make it to home games, which both should be just fine in this scenario I would think.

Probably not. Will you be stoked when Tejas, OU & Co. come to Morgantown? Absolutely......

  • Great point Hoss! If they were coming to Louisville they may fill up Papa Johns for a game other than UK's. I don't know how UL is going to survive this. I think they are finally starting to see how everyone else sees them.
Kinda pitiful seeing their delusional importance as the #1 sports team in America dwindle away. Very Sad!

Thank goodness one of the bridges is closed. It'd take too many cops to guard all 3 of them and keep the jumpers off.

I don't think you could trade a pile of UL football tickets for a stick of gum.

Good point. The number of people actually travelling to games is just a fraction of the fan base anyway. There is no negative for WVU here. Better conference, better games, more money. They're lovin' life now.

  • The geography is ridiculous, yes. But the 1,140 miles between Morgantown and Norman isn't a huge amount of difference from the 997 miles between Gainesville and Fayetteville here in the SEC.

    So it isn't without precedent.

  • I agree. I also think it makes no sense to add Missouri to the SEC.

But back to your question. This has nothing to do with the fans. This has everything to do with University Presidents trying to capture additional revenues and pad their bonus pool.

^This. All of the re-alignments are about adding $$ to University coffers.

You seem to be basing that statement on what you've witnessed from Kentucky. If so, you are right, Kentucky does not travel well in football.

Other schools on the other hand do. I remember being at an Ole Miss - LSU game back in the Eli Manning days when there were estimated to be 50,000+ fans on campus that day who could not get into the game - most of whom were LSU fans.

That's what regional rivalries are all about. College football will not benefit from this reallignment. College presidents retirement packages will.

  • I'd like to see them try their battery and snake throwing shenanigans in Texas or Oklahoma.

    BigTyrone

  • I think there is little effect on football and basketball, although travel for football games becomes pretty expensive. Where the conference realignment gets me is travel for the non-revenue sports that bus it to games. They could miss a week of school getting to and from games.
