Interesting schedule note re: UK

  • From TCP's Matt McCarty:

Tomorrow's game is the first of four Saturday games that UK plays against a
team that played on Thursday night. They are:

Jan. 14 - Kentucky at Tennessee; Tennessee was at MSU Jan. 12
Jan. 21 - Alabama at Kentucky; Alabama hosts Vandy Jan. 19
Feb. 4 - Kentucky at South Carolina; SC is at Florida Feb. 2
Feb. 18 - Ole Miss at Kentucky; Ole Miss hosts Vandy Feb. 16

The only time Kentucky plays on Thursday this year is prior to a Sunday game
so Kentucky doesn't have to do the Thursday-Saturday any in SEC play this
    season.

  • The only one I don't see it helping us with is USC because they have already played us and it is at their home. The others will be helpful in their preparation time for us and possibly road weary when traveling.

  • I wonder if this might hurt us come tournament time since we will only have 1 time where we had a 48 hour turnaround and none since early december. I know we have the team that can overcome quite a bit, but might this hurt us especially in the later rounds?

Nah. That's where the youth may actually help. Although it's not like they're playing any 37-year-olds out there. biggrin

(Although Cal can fire back about bench location at Memorial Gym. Hey, fair is fair.) cool

  • UK gets teams on short rest 4 times. Vandy gets 8 games with that ridiculous gym setup. I'd say ol' Bill Dauterive should leave well enough alone.

Tell Stallings when he gets out of the 1st round of the NCAA he can bitch and whine. Until then, all he ever does is bitch and whine and has never accomplished anything to have the cred to bitch and whine!fingergun

  • Someone should tell Stallings that when Vandy becomes relevant in basketball and can command a national audience maybe they can play on a Tuesday too. Until then, move past the 1st round of the NCAAT and stop collapsing early in the season when you have some expectations.

Vandy was a preseason top 25 team and fell out of the rankings.

THEY WERE A TOP 7 TEAM FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. LOSSES TO TWO TEAMS THEY SHOULD HAVE KILLED. OK sorry to yell. but hell they make the SEC look bad with those losses.
But yes it will be a tuff place for UK to play with Gameday being there.
AND TO RANT I HATE THIS GYM. (BURN IT DOWN) [pray

I think he's got a somewhat legitimate point when you look at it from the outside, but I don't think it merited the kind of whining he was doing about it. And it certainly isn't a matter of the SEC trying to favor UK. It's ESPN favoring UK because they want people WATCHING their games.

Like I said earlier, how would he feel if UK demanded proper bench placement for Memorial Gym? That's an 8-game advantage for the Dores.

  • I guess the real question is, "does UK have anything to do with the SEC scheduling?" And, if I am correct in thinking they don't, tell Stallings to take it up with the SEC officials and let them listen to his whining.

    Playing devil's advocate here...

Their Bench is an advantage for them but so is 25K at every home game for UK.
