Is Joker and Dooley Playing to Keep their job?

  • Jeff Drummond said...

Because they hired him with confidence to do a job, and you don't do that and give the person two seasons to get it done.

Not saying that I believe 2012 is going to be a major turnaround, but I believe he deserves that opportunity before they pull the plug.

I agreed with you Jeff until the Vandy game. In the two years Joker has been head coach, I can think of only a couple of games where his teams have looked well prepared. It's not like with Brooks when he was rebuilding from probation. There is just no reason for his teams to look so unprepared week in and out. In some of their biggest games, his teams don't show up. I wanted him to succeed, but these performances fall on him.

Aaron at BBK, Larry Vaught, Maggard.

I have been on BBK and Vaughts sites and have not seen anything reporting this.

Then you must not be a paying member on Aaron BBK site.

  • No I am not. Can you give any details as to what he is saying. He usually has good info.

  • I've probably already said more than I should have. There is also a post on the the Rivals free board that would be hard to miss with more info in it.

They look unprepared because they don't have people who can execute what they'd like to do. It's not a complicated issue at all. They missed (badly) on a couple of recruiting classes (partly Joker's fault, granted) and they're paying for it now.

    Look back at last season...

    * Prepared vs UofL

    * Blew out two NC teams like they should have

    * Saw the team fumble all over an easy win at Ole Miss

    * Highly prepared vs eventual national champ, went down to the last second

    * Prepared vs SC. Beat Spurrier for first time ever

They had several games where they were clearly prepared to play. You could even argue they were prepared against Pitt even after the starting QB made a bonehead move and got himself suspended. They opened well, and the whole thing went south on Locke's fumble going into the end zone for a touchdown.

It's been a bad year. No one's arguing that. But it's a bad year because you don't have seasoned playmakers. It's not Xs and Os, the system, yada, yada, yada. It's players.

If someone wants to debate that they're not able to recruit the type of players needed to win in the SEC, I'll acknowledge that possibility. And that's a huge part of the job. But I'm not buying the other stuff. I've seen these guys coach and compete at a high level when they have the right pieces.

  • Jeff, what are you doing up. Go to sleep man.

The one thing that makes me smile is knowing that no matter what time (4:35) PM I can depend on you to be around. Your a real trooper and you need a raise.

Always appreciate having an honorary "nightowl" around... even though it's not really the case for you there.

Jeff, I always appreciate your perspective. You make very valid points. I am not sure why, but I have lost some hope after this season, and I have witnessed some very bad football. Keep up the great work that you do.

I think that's a commonly shared sentiment right now, mtk. We're all wondering what the future of UK football looks like, even though we may disagree on some of the details. I appreciate the good, intelligent discussion.

    Thanks for the kind words.
