Is UL blocking WVU to the Big 12?

  • As of late yesterday afternoon, WVU had received a verbal invitation to the Big 12 and had accepted. Plans were in the works for a news conference Wednesday to make the announcement.

But sources say the process hit a “bump in the road” last night. WVU was apparently notified by the Big 12 that it needed “more information” from WVU and that there would be a vote by the Big 12 Board, perhaps on Monday.

There is speculation that the “bump” was a push by Louisville.

  • I want Louisville to get left out, but how funny would it be if West Virginia gets rejected AGAIN. . .

  • The Senate Republican leader will get his way and UL will get their invite.

  • Still trying to figure out how anybody in their right mind would pick UL over WVU. WVU is historically a much better football program (and that's at the heart of all these moves) and the basketball team racks and stacks evenly with the birds as well. Gotta believe Tommy Turtleneck is calling one or two of his buds in the Big 12 and calling in some markers. That's the only thing that make sense.

  • I can't understand why the Big 12 doesn't go after Boise State instead of WVU or UofL

I agree with this. Why wouldn't they want BSU. Just doesn't make since to me?

  • Just another reason I dislike McConell and hope he loses his reelection next time. Lifetime leach that needs to go.

Why is any senator or congressman meddling in this? We have real problems to worry about but they want to piss away their time with this and other sports? SMH!

Because aside from football they don't have anything to offer and if I'm not mistaken their academics are pretty poor as well.

I don't think the guy should be involved what so ever either, and I also don't like him. However, I don't have a problem in general with congress involving themselves in sports. . .

I was listening to Louisville sports radio all day Tuesday and EVERYONE was whining about how it was a done deal that UofHell was getting the invite and some conspiracy was the only way WVU was stealing "their" spot because they were such a far superior program...the arrogant and delusional self entitlement of that fanbase is the number one reason I hate it so damn much. The entire fanbase truly truly believes it is some perennial powerhouse. It's laughable.

These moves are about either adding credible football programs or TVs. The Big12 has the credtited football, now its adding TVs. The only competition WVU has in the entire state is Marshal. UofL on the other hand only has about 60% of the city. The NY times did an article not long ago on projected fanbases, Louisville o.KY has a projected fanbase around 300K. Obviously EVERY conference would die to add that. Lmao

Boise is the #112 TV market in the country.....and I'm guessing that in the back of their mind is the thought of what could happen if Peterson leaves. Boise St. could just as easily slide into Boliva (if I may quote Mike Tyson) as not.....

    Or maybe even BYU?

Heck, the Big 12 could even use the arguments advanced by Pitino to get Memphis and/or Temple included in the Big East against UofL. If they are about "inner city" basketball then why would the Big 12, which is all state universities, want them instead of some "inner city" universities in their own geographic footprint like say Houston. The Houston TV market is much bigger than any market UofL offers. They could add SMU and sew up the Dallas market completely.

Lots of choices that make more sense for the Big 12 than UofL.

My HUGE problem with the politicians getting involved is....

Unemployment is high. The economy is crap. They're (the gov't) spending money like a drunken sailor on payday weekend. We as a country have real problems. And THIS is the most important thing Mitch and the politicians from WVa have to deal with at this point in time???

STFU and work on the stuff you're PAID to do, and stop with the personal agenda crap. You want to help your school...then resign and THEN help. You don't take time away from your JOB to do lobbying for "your" school to go to another conference. If UL can't get in on their own merits...then maybe they're just not good enough.

Everybody takes breaks from work. I imagine that US Senators typically work more than 40 hours a week, I don't have a problem with him (even though I'm not a McConnell or UL fan) doing this as long as it's not taking up an inordinate amount of time.

Exactly. . . That line about "we have real issues, and this is what they're worried about" is so played out it is ridiculous. . . People in congress are not required to focus on political issues 24 hours a day 7 days a week. . . I don't like Mitch, and I don't really see why he is getting involved in this specific case, but in general I have no issue with congress and sports. . .

  • What I don't like about our politicians getting involved in this stuff is what are they saying and/or promising behind doors to make their influence shown? Are they promising anything in terms of passing bills or attaching earmarks for what they want? It just brings up way too many possibilities of corruption, like they're used to in working as politicians, so I really don't want the politicians involved.
