What I don't like about our politicians getting involved in this stuff is what are they saying and/or promising behind doors to make their influence shown? Are they promising anything in terms of passing bills or attaching earmarks for what they want? It just brings up way too many possibilities of corruption, like they're used to in working as politicians, so I really don't want the politicians involved.

Exactly. . . That line about "we have real issues, and this is what they're worried about" is so played out it is ridiculous. . . People in congress are not required to focus on political issues 24 hours a day 7 days a week. . . I don't like Mitch, and I don't really see why he is getting involved in this specific case, but in general I have no issue with congress and sports. . .

No, they're not "required" to focus on their job 24/7/365...but if he's using his position to sway/pressure/force the Big 12 into a decision they clearly didn't want to make, then that's an impeachable offense. Using your position of authority in an inappropriate manner isn't just unethical, it's illegal.
But, it is what it is. I could care less if he was doing this for UK or UL, I'm just upset that a Senator took time away from his constituents to pander to a college conference for his home team to be included. If he's not a Senator, neither University President takes his call, and the Big 12 continues to do what the BIG 12 WANTED TO DO!!! Now, they feel pressured to do something they didn't want to do as a direct result of political pressure.
It's subtraction by addition for UL to be admitted to the Big 12. And everyone who has an open mind knows it but the UL faithful. THAT'S why WVA was chosen in the first place, it's a net benefit to the Big 12. And "forcing" them to take UL too devalues their product.

My HUGE problem with the politicians getting involved is....
Unemployment is high. The economy is crap. They're (the gov't) spending money like a drunken sailor on payday weekend. We as a country have real problems. And THIS is the most important thing Mitch and the politicians from WVa have to deal with at this point in time???
STFU and work on the stuff you're PAID to do, and stop with the personal agenda crap. You want to help your school...then resign and THEN help. You don't take time away from your JOB to do lobbying for "your" school to go to another conference. If UL can't get in on their own merits...then maybe they're just not good enough.

Pretty sure Mitch can lobby on behalf of his state until he's blue in the face and it would perfectly legal. When you add generalizations such as "force" then maybe it becomes something else. We may not like that he's helping UL but he is working for his people at least.

Is UL blocking WVU to the Big 12?
