Is it time for a Clensing of our fan base?

  • I'm sure our record has alot to do with it. I'm just so tired of our fans who are to cheap to invest in the football program. They are the same fans expecting Leach of Petrino to walk through that door. Yea, I know you buy season tickets. Those tickets are a bargin in the SEC. Your getting off cheap compared to your counterpart at Florida, Georgia, and LSU. Still you expect to win like those programs every year.
It's time to flush all these so called boosters down a 3 " main. Then build a program around a true fanbase.

  • The problem is you can't really donate to the football program. You donate to the K-fund which is used for all sports including the non-revenue sports.

They will tell you that you can earmark a donation for a specific sport but that doesn't mean anything becasue they just reallocate non-earmarked donations to get the original end result they wanted anyway.

That's why we never got a special fund raiser to get the recruiting room, Mitch thinks that would compete with the K-fund.

    So it's the fans fault?

So why wasn't the money donated to the hoops' practice facility & dorm house reallocated to football?

  • When a company is failing you don't fire the customers (AKA Fans). You create a product that you hope they'll pay dearly for.

  • Maximus, there are plenty of fans and/or donors that would step up and donate if it was a good investment. Right now thats simply not the case. Kinda like throwing good money after bad. The right hire combined with the BOT ability to start on football projects will make all the difference.

The big question is will either of those items be accomplished? Its Kentucky, so who the hell knows...........

Now it's the fans' fault? I've heard it all now. Unless Joker has recruited people out of the stands to play, I don't see how it's the fan's fault. There was 53K of us there Saturday and we didn't win, so......there you are.

Well start it off Maximus!!! Now what makes our everyday fans too cheap? Is it their willingness to buy season season tickets regardless of a crappy product? Their commitment to buying UK merch? I mean really, what are you expecting??? What should they be paying for that they are not? If you want to start sone sort of side footabll fund, by all means, go for it, but don't complain about what other people choose to do with their hard earned money and stand idley by yourself? How much can I put you down for Max, $100, 000? $200, 000? C'mon buddy don't be cheap!

  • I gave my tickets up years ago. Thats why I can't have an opinion in on the coaching situation. I do however cheer for whoever and whatever product is on the field. UK will always be my team.

You Catman, sound like the type of fan a program needs, I wish we had 60,000 like you. My post was just calling out fans who don't share your passion. The one's that just want to cry and complain about the program while they act like a big booster because they donate to the K-fund.

After i get out of school and settled in, I will donate as much as possible every year, but it will go to the football program. If i have to start a football donation fund, I F***ing will. It seems like people think they can be bullies bc there is a keyboard and monitor in between them and the other person. I am not attacking you Catmando, but I see no problem with Maximus' post. Not buying tickets bc of the economy is one thing, not buying bc you "don't like the direction of the program( ie Joker and Mitch) means you aren't a fan, you are a bandwagon fan, meaning you like the team when they are good, but don't care as much when they aren't that great.

Well unfortunately, UK needs much richer fans than me! 60,000 of us with my money couldn't helpp very much. If anyone is willing to give me a much better paying job, I'd be gald to donate more to UK!

I also don't think you should have to donate monsy to be fan, or to have your opinion be worthwhile. Of course, those who donate big money are always going to be the one's with the most say.

  • So we're bad fans now? We're the same damn fans that have supported this football program through thick & thin(and it's been a whole lot more damn thin than thick, I can damn well assure you of that!). And what the fans are tired of is the same thing that they've been getting for all of those years, marginal football with enough good years in there to make you hope for more, only to be disappointed over and over and over again. After awhile, you just get kinda numb...........and then you look around and see other programs in the SEC continue to be good, and others yet still improve and get better. And you get mad.
But not at Kentucky! We continue to be in 2nd to last, or last place, every year. It's getting old. Very old. I am an older fan and for the most part, it's all I've ever known from Kentucky football. I'm tired. I'm sick and damn tired of it. But DO NOT question my fandom. I have a right to bitch about the product on the field, as well as praise them when they play well and win. This is MY TEAM, win or lose, and as far as I'm concerned, no "cleansing" of the fanbase is going to happen, we can take care of ourselves, Thank You very much!

  • Yeah, I agree its time to flush some of the effluent from the fanbase and the OP should be the first floater to go.

  • I don't think anyone can be blamed for not wanting to give money to a Joker Phillips lead football program.

It's nearly unbearable to watch. The team is apathetic, undisciplined, and just overall not very talented. If we played in the OVC, then we would look pretty good, maybe.

  • So the Op wants to commit genocide against the UK fanbase? I'm no lawyer but isn't that a crime against humanity? Much like this thread.

  • I think a lot of the most negative fans flushed themselves by not renewing tickets. There wasn't a ton of booing vs. WKU.

  • By the way, what happened to our little football fund we had going on this site before the merger?
