Is this bad start going to cost us

  • come tourney time? I love the way the team is improving, they are definitely improved some since notre dame. But, on the downside, we would not be a tourney team if if the season ended now. Unless they just go on the fact that we are ky. We have 0 quality wins, even though we hung around with duke and Louisville. I like this team more each week, but I get nervous, bc we could drop 6 games in conference, and we won't make the tournament, plain and simple. The sec is way too down. The only quality win we can get the rest of the way is Florida or Missouri! Am I reading too much into this?

    shepp2700

  • No, I am worried too! However, being the defending champion and the close games we had against UL and Duke will help. I expect us to go 14-4 in the conference which will give us a 23-8 record. We will make it.

  • I am not truly worried yet, but it's very possible that we lose our games vs Florida and Missouri and end the season with literally 0 quality wins! If that happens, I wonder how many wins we have to have to get in? I think the sec being watered down will help our record, but hurt our resume...

    shepp2700

  • I just think it is how we finish that is most important this year. Every year we hear the committe talk about this team or that team finishing strong, so if we are clicking down the stretch that is what is going to determine our placement.

  • UK will go 16 and 2 in conf. loss at Fla loss on the road to another will be it. the SEC is just horrid this yr.

Sec will be lucky to get 4 teams in the dance. UK, Tenn, Fla and Mizz.

    dvillepro1

  • I would say 4 in the dance is about right, but instead of Tennessee, I see Ole Miss being in with Florida, Kentucky and Missouri.

  • It would take 11+ losses for UK to miss the tournament.

  • The good thing is that the fate of this team is still in its hands. The team is still improving and is still nowhere near where it will end up. With a down league, it actually in some ways lends itself to this team growing confidence with teams like Missouri, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Florida giving good measuring sticks to how this team is progressing.

I see this team losing a couple to these teams and one or two on the road they shouldn't but will because they are young. However, I see them holding serve at home now the way they are improving. What will be interesting for this team is how will they respond to playing some of these teams a second and third time when they start trying to take away certain things. Will they adjust and get better? That's the question!

    TheBluesBrother

  • You do realize UConn lost 13 games last season before the tournament and was a 9 seed. No way this team drops 13 games. Even if they did I bet they'd make it as a 10 seed.

I see tops 8 regular season losses. Michigan St had 7 going into the tournament and landed a 1 seed. I know the conference competition is different, but an 8 loss UK team could easily land a 2 or 3 seed if these other schools beat up on each other in conference play. Hell, lose only two more games and they could find themselves sneaking in as a 1 is things go their way.

  • 4 tough OOC games and we lose all four. It will hurt our seeding but we could still end up with a decent seed.

Missouri is another team that has outplayed UK to this point in the season thus the #7 ranking although they lost their last game and will drop a few spots. UK will go 11-5 or 10-6 in the conference and will be a sub-6 seed. They will lose to Tenn in Knoxville and Fla. both games and Missouri, so the only question is will they lose to anyone else and the answer is I have no idea but it could happen. I dont think the committee will eliminate the Cats from the tourney but as I have said before this team could be a much higher seeds worse nightmare in the tourney.

You really think this team will drop both games to UF, lose to Mizzou in Rupp, and lose in Knoxville?

Considering the second game with UF is the last of the regular season at Rupp I believe the Cats split with Florida. Mizzou will lose in Rupp. Knoxville and Gainesville worry me. The other potential losses I see I listed in another thread, but of those games I see no more than two. I see no more than two losses of the four games you listed.

I just don't see this team dropping 6 games in this year's SEC. Maybe last year, but I just don't see it.

  • I can see us being with nine losses at the end of the regular season, especially since we are still not there in consistancy. With the SEC tournament we could enter the NCAA tourney with 10 losses but if we are playing well down the stretch, we will make the tourney, no problem, we just may not like the seed that we get. Plus we have outs, win the regular season or the SEC tournament, either one would get us in easy.

    UKlaw82

  • I personally think its ridiculous any fan is talking/worried we might miss the tourney.

  • This team is improving in large steps, and it will continue to improve. The SEC is weak, with only Florida, Kentucky, and Missouri as clear NCAA teams. I believe the SEC will end with at least 4 in the Dance, and I believe right now that 4th team will be Mississippi, and UK plays at Mississippi. Alabama lost again last night, to Tulane and have lost 5 of their last 6, and three of those losses have been in Tuscaloosa. No Dance for them without a major turnaround.

Tennessee is a little stronger than Alabama at the moment, but have not played nearly as well as Mississippi. Tennessee's offense is a mighty struggle, but Tennessee could become a 5th SEC team in the dance. The rest of the SEC is already exposed and out of the post season running.

One last observation. Kentucky has a favorable schedule with 11 of the 18 games against teams at the bottom of the heap. Only 7 games against the teams mentioned above, 3 at home and 4 on the road. If they lose any of the bottom 11 games, then perhaps this team will drop off the map, but I don't expect that, and I don't expect this team to lose 4 of the 7 key games.

This UK team will lose at Florida, but that game will be in single digits, and the Cats will have a chance to win it. The should win at Ole Miss, but it will be a low single digit game that they could lose. The final game against Florida will be a low single digit game that the Cats could lose. The games at Alabama and Tennessee will see the Cats as nearly 10 point favorites despite the road venue, and Missouri at Rupp the Cats will handle.

All of this concern about this team's future should be focused on whether this team ends as a 2 seed instead of a 5 seed. As of today, this team has earned either a 3 or 4 seed, and with the improvements yet to come, I believe it will be either a 3 seed or 2 seed in March.

I intend to sit back and enjoy the SEC season again. Will the Cats be 10-0 when they go to Gainesville? I believe that is entirely possible, and 9-1 going down there is likely. That means they will be either 19-4 or 18-5 going into O-Connell on February 12.

Why is the sky always falling? This team is like the 2010 team, which was a 4 seed and made the final four. Except this team has more potential than that team. can they realize it? I look forward to watching them try. Because if they can.....bring on the 3 peat chants.

I have no idea. Some act like this team is coached by BCG.

  • If this team improves the next two weeks in camp cal as much as it did the previous two weeks we will likely have an excellent sec record. Something like 14-2 or 13-3. If Cal gets poythress going we'll be right there with the top 7-8 teams in the country.

louisville is as good as anybody in the country. We took them to the wire. I like our team (sorry to sound like cal).

This is my view also, and it will be 16-2 or 15-3 now that the SEC is an 18 game schedule. Top 7-8 is a 2 seed range, and right now they are in the 3 to 4 seed range.

  • I'm not worried at all about this team anymore. With Harrow now looking like a legit PG and Big Willie coming on we're gonna be tough to beat. All we need is for Alex to start playing some ball. If he comes around look out. We just played the #2 team in the country within 3 points on their home floor. We're not going to lose many SEC games.

You need to get what this team was in the OOC slate out of your head.

I like this team, and think they are a threat come march. I never said otherwise, and never would lol. My question was whether the 0-4 ooc record vs quality opponents, and terrible strength of conference will severely hurt us come tourney... From a seeding perspective, and lack of quality opponents the rest the way. Make no mistake, the sky is not falling in my world. It is not absurd to say we don't technically have a tourney team resume at this point either

    I don't think so.

Last year's team, even if we were seeded 16, we still would have won.

Besides low seeding could be placed in awesome bracket, as well as high seed.

To me the most important is who do we get matched up against. EVery team has that team that you are weak against. Hopefully we don't have a team that we are matched up against that we are weaker against.

However...we just took, what we would have believed to be our weakness, in physical team like Louisville and lost only by 3 points AT louisville. Long term, this team might resemble 2011-2012 more than any other team.
