It Just Got Harder to Recruit at UL

  • I'm surprised that nobody is talking about the decision yesterday that College Football will be going to a 4 team playoff. Its not perfect but its a large step in the right direction. I think the only thing its lacking is that it should have been 8 team playoff instead of 4 team playoff. The best thing about it is the Automatic Qualifier Bids are gone and the selection committee will look at Strength of Schedule, Conference Campionship, and other aspects. Because of there being no Automatic Qualifier Bids and the Strenght of Schedule being a factor it instantly makes it harder to recruit at UL.

Currently Charlie Strong is able to go into homes and say that we've got the path of least resistance to a BCS Bowl... Now when the Playoff comes into effect he can't say that any longer, he's got to tell players that they've got no shot at a National Title because as long as UL is in the Big East the Strength of Schedule won't be strong enough to make the playoff. Also the Big Bowls (currently known as the BCS Bowls) for teams that don't make it to the playoff have tie-ins with Pac12, Big10, Big12, SEC, and ACC. The Big East has no tie-in. The final spot is a game against the best of the ACC that isn't invited to the playoff and that final spot is open to anyone in college football so if the best team is Boise State or some other team from a lower conference that is very good then the Big East could be shut out completely from a Big Bowl game in certain years....

Charlie Strong has to be in Tom Jurich's office right now trying to get him on the phone with other conference so that they can move....

That could come back to bit him straight in the ass though.

Will he be able to tell them that they're going to the Big 12 and win it with a straight face?

This. UL's staff aint selling the benefits of the Big Least and playing in a BSC bowl that noone cares about or watches. They told everyone they signed this past class and everyone they are recruiting for 2013 that they will be playing against Texas and Oklahoma in the B12 rather than San Jose St/SMU/UConn in the Big Least.

Pretty much zero evidence that is gonna happen for them, they might have been considered for expansion at one point but by now it is obvious they have been deemed lacking. Charlie's gambling he will be off to another program by the time his players start grumbling about being decieved into signing with him.

Notre Dame in the Big 12? Don't shrug it off too quickly. It's been assumed the conference has looked into adding the Irish. Now there's proof.

  • So is it fair to say that when you add a school you either add to the pie (ND) or you cause everyone's piece of the pie to be smaller (Lville)? If so, not many (any?) schools would vote to make their slice smaller.

  • Strong gets Louiisville kids no matter who or where they play. If the SEC was a big deal to these kids they would all be going to UK if they want to remain in the state.

UK needs to do a much better job in Louisville.

Man outside of the Trinity kids we've done damn good in Louisville over the last several years. Which is why I freaking hate Trinity high school. That school pisses me off. LOL.

That just isn't true. Louisville has missed on the TOP notch Louisville kids the last 4-5 years. They get some nice players out of Louisville, but in reality, we've gotten the top recruits out of louisville when the kids have stayed in state including the likes of Corey peters, Mr. Cobble, Chapman etc...

Other than Peters, the Central kids really have not panned out. As far as Trinity kids, there are two on the current UofL team that walked on with ties to UK, Stein whos father played at UK and Alex Kupper, who was a life long UK fan but didn't get a sniff from UK coming out of High School. He's now a starter on their OLine. UK has done well with Trinity kids in the past, Ryan Telachka was the best punter in the SEC, Luke McDermitt gave everything he had and another Trinity walk-on Nick Mellio played last season and is now in the Patriots camp. I think it's funny all of the hate for Trinity kids, the ones that have played at UK have done nothing but worked their butts off and represented the university in the right way.

We literally have no shot at their stud players. A punter and a couple walk ons is still a big buzz kill compared to what that school puts out. From my perspective we are not doing well at all at Trinity. I mean if we at least had a shot with some of their studs I'd even be happy but we don't.

The current crop of Trinity kids have strong family connections to UofL and shouldn't be looked at as a bad reflection on Joker. This is not the case year to year and realistically while Trinity has a Nationally ranked team, they do not traditionally put many kids into D1 schools on football scholarships each year. The majority like the ones I have previously mentioned were all walkons.

No its definitely not a bad reflection on Joker. If they were open to UK he definitely would have slid in and been a factor.

  • As long as Dennis Lampley and Oscar Brohm are around Trinity, they will do their best to keep top talent out of UK. Coach Beatty could care less, he just prepares the kids and tries to win. But when mail from certain schools never reach the kids hands when it goes to the athletic dept. , it is bullcrap. Mail tampering is illegal.

Besides Trinity, ul doesn't get all of the jefferson co kids. Look at our past recruits from there and we got some great ones from there. Now I will admit alot of jefferson co kids go elsewhere with both ul and UK missing on them but that happens.

blackeyeDear lord. Have you ever heard of Mr. Cobble? He's rated as one of the top DT's in the SEC and patterson hasn't had a chance to see the field yet...

Actually, Patterson is gone... But Cobble has a chance to really make some noise as a JR this year.

The Trinity hate isn't hate, per se, it's more distress that Quick, Hatcher and White aren't considered realistic targets for UK. Warranted or not, that's where the Trinity grumbling comes from.

PAtterson isn't gone, he is with UK now, and working at OLB i think. Cobble made noise last year. A lot of it, especially on the interior of opposing OL. Just sayin.

Am I insane? I thought it was all over the message boards and confirmed by the athletic department that he left the team at the same time as Nermin Delic and Justin Henderson?

Did I dream all of that?

  • Hate to respond to my own post, but Tim Patterson has transferred and signed an LOI with Western Arizona College. I knew I wasn't losing my mind...

    JDHLaw11

  • You might as well forget about Trinity except for the rare kid who doesn't have UL ties. Trinity has out recruited St X and the public schools and is a pipeline to UL or out of state. We don't need to worry about them now. There is lots more to keep UKFB fans busy.

For me its mostly pure hate at least with this class.

  • All the expansion stuff has quieted down since the playoff announcements last week. Funny rumor came out the last few days, that UL is so desparate that they allegedly offered to pay Florida State's ACC exit fee ($20 million plus) if they would be allowed to join the B12 along with the Seminoles for the 2013 season.
