NO NO NO. Why do you want to hire a coach that was fired in the NFL. Very few high school kids even know this man. UK needs a sure fire hire. If you want the man UK will have to spend around 8 to 9 mill for him and his staff to come here, with a ton of money on the back end to stay.

Del Rio is a fiery guy, still young enough to create some excitement among recruits and the fan base. I'd take him in a heartbeat, but he's the Broncos' DC and my guess is he'll be a head coach in the NFL again before too long.

I'd be cool with Del Rio. No college experience makes it pretty risky, but I like him as a coach.

On a different note, Rex Ryan looks like he'll be available. Coached at Morehead and EKU early in his career. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

I had thought that del Rio had coached at USCw as an asst, but guess he just was offered theHC job and turned it down when Kiffin was hired.

I agree with others who think it's risky--both because he has no college experience and because he's from the other side of the country. You'd want someone with ties to the south or midwest. We're definitely not going to field a roster of all California kids.

He may have some Florida tee shirts or something, but no, I don't think on the surface he has any ties to football, below the NFL level, on this side of the country--south, north, wherever. It doesn't disqualify him, but it's a potential liability.

He's also a guy that never held a job, that I know of, at the college level unless you count his time at USC. You've got three sides to a coin where you usually have two--usually it's just whether he can do the job or not. With a guy like this, you have to factor in whether it's a job he'd even like to do--and he might not know until he tries it.

I'd take Del Rio. Shot on in 2010, Del Rio was offered the head coaching job at USC, his alma mater. The next day he denied receiving an offer from USC, stating that the offer was "manufactured." Later that afternoon, he rebuffed USC officially, announcing that he would remain with the Jaguars at least through the duration of his current contract. It would be a blessing for UK to get a coach of this caliber IMO
