Jalen Battle's teammate DJ Woods...

  • ... has committed to UMass.

There was some discussion on here during Jalen's commitment that maybe the Cats would pursue him as well.

    UMass??

  • Not bothered by this one honestly. UMASS is in the MAC now. They've hit it big time.

well didn't know they had made the jump to D1 football. Guess that one snuck up on me, but you are right. He was more of a slot receiver, of which we have some very good options. So yeah, I would agree and say there is no big loss there.

  • The LB Moore is the one we want.

    Maximus62865

  • I know Skai Moore is a kid I would like to see commit, but I'm not sure the staff took Battle just because of him or his teammates.

Agree that Moore of all the teammates would be the one we would really be after. But If the staff did "put all their eggs in one basket" by taking Battle with hoping that we would get an in with the others, that thought is quickly going out the door with all of them committing elsewhere. So I don't think this was the case

    Hogan_Ryan

  • Actually, the guy of all his teammates that we would want is Jordan Cunningham, but of the ones we have a chance with, yes, Skai Moore is the one. lol

  • Good. No more room for additional reaches.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • He's a reach by your definition. If you ask the coaches, he is not a reach. Difference of opinion, I guess. But without knowing you, I am more inclined to believe them.

I think the kid is gonna be a player. Imo there is no way the staff burns a scholly on a player they don't think can play all in hopes of landing one or two of his teammates. Joker may or may not be the guy to elevate this program to were we all want to go, and Joker gas taken some serious hatin but imo that's beyond insulting.

Yeah I don't think this is a big loss at all. I'm confident that on signing day, they should be able to have a couple more prospects on the level of Sweat and Legree.

In Minter's opinion he is a reach. I don't think it's a reach, I think the staff see's something there. If everyone else doesn't feel like he's a reach, fine. That's your opinion. I can see based on the rankings and so forth that someone would come to this conclusion, but if you don't think he's a reach, that's fine. Just state so and move on, no need to get in a back and forth about everyone's opinion on every commit. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if you don't like it. That's all i'm saying. I can already see this thread turning into what every other thread about recruiting seems to turn into.

  • The "reaches" the past two years have primarily been on the OL. Mike Summers has been doing this for a long time. I trust his judgement on those guys.

agree. Summers knows what he wants, see's it, get's it, and then develops it. I trust him

  • The guys that he is taking, he has seen in front him at our camps. So yea, I definitely trust him.

THIS!!!!! I am so effing tired of people being attacked on here every time they express dissatisfaction with a recruiting or coaching decision.

Do you want an honest answer as to why he MIGHT be a reach? He plays on an EXTREMELY highly recruited/scouted team, yet he has offers from mostly all small schools....and UK. So, yeah...its not all wild and crazy for someone to suggest that it might be a reach to project him as an effective WR in the SEC.

Agree with you that it's getting really old to read the same nonsense in seemingly every football thread.

  • Truth is, the answer lies somewhere in the middle of the sunshine pumpers and the negative nancies. There will always be reaches but unless you watch film and know how the kid is going to mature, how do you know which kid it's going to be?

  • I have been labeled as a sunshine Pumper...although I don't believe I am. I have the same concerns same many (well maybe not the same) and the same frustrations. I used to be very vocal with both but it seems the last few years have seen the negativity rise to an all time and ridiculous high. Some agendas are so crazy many of us feel we have to constantly defend the program, so much so that we no longer get the opportunity to share our concerns and frustrations.

I am truly going to make a real effort to refrain from getting involved in these debates the same way I did political topics on the paddock. Problem being, it's gotten so out of hand that every single football thread ends the same way.

Heres to hoping some wins will help end this insanity

I don't think the yong man is a reach. If I choose to disagree with those who do then that's my choice. Don't need a lecture from you or anyone else for that matter. You answered the question and that should have been enough.

  • Two schools of thought? Either you subscribe to the recruiting/reporting services. Or you don't. For what ever reason Battle did not make it to the big combines this summer. Therefor the Rivals/247 guys don't know him very well. I think someone wrote that once he is evaluated he would be a 3 star?
I choose to trust the coaches in this situation.

He plays for a team that has had probably 100 d1 assistant and head coaches watch play last year alone. He's no secret.

  • It's July...you don't know that other schools weren't waiting on some other guys.
