Good riddance. I bet something is brewing here, either cancer/other serious health issue or NCAA stuff.

Not surprised. He's had numerous major health issues in recent years, including a recent fractured hip. He's no spring chicken. At some point you just can't physically handle the demands of a job like that. I'm always shocked when coaches have a long life span. It's just too difficult in today's sporting environment.

I was shocked when it looked like he was going to coach this year. Roster down plus NCAA sanctions, probably right call for him. Can't believe he's won 3 national championships.

It's hard to say. They are in good recruiting land. A good bball conference. They'll probably have some carry over success and be in hunt from time to time but I don't think they'll be a consistent powerhouse without him. I guess we should wait and see who they hire. UConn is a big name and they have deep pockets. They may make an out of this world hire and not lose a step.

They will suffer for a while but eventually will make a couple runs. They just became the next Maryland, imo. Good program historically but after their 'legendary' coach retires they slide to nothing to rarely be heard from again.

I agree, while the majority of us know he's a former NBA player, not too many recruits will know him. He could turn out to be a solid recruiter, but as a coach we will have to wait and see.
I'd say we won't hear much from the Huskies for quite awhile.

This comment has no validity. I love Gary, but we finally have a coach that is willing to recruit to sustain success. Not to mention, Turgeon can coach his butt off.
