Jim Tressel

  • Is there any truth to the rumor that was mentioned during the Texas Am and Arkansas game about Jim Tressel to Kentucky at mid season to sit out his five game suspension and be ready to go for spring practice and recruiting? Several people were talking about it at the game on saturday, that they had seen this during the broadcast.

    Did anyone else hear this?

  • Sounds like a load of BS to me.

And that's an understatement. It's highly unlikely that Mr. Sweater Vest will be hired by ANYONE until his show cause penalty is up, and I believe that's not until 2016 or 2017.

    JDHoss

  • No. Broadcasts don't talk about rumors first of all.

  • Jim Tressel is Big Ten football. Big Ten football does not work in the SEC. It had better not happen.

  • Let's just be clear- I could see it happening, but I don't see it happening mid season. Joker Phillips has been too good of an ambassador for UK football over the years to be thrown out on his butt. I'm sure that, if a coaching change is indeed made, that Tressel will receive a call and consideration.

  • I think Tressel is a smart enough coach that he would adjust his system. He's dirty and doesn't run a tight ship but I wouldn't be opposed to him being here. He has to sit out 5 games so it's possible but HIGHLY DOUBTFUL.

  • Jesus wept people....I have a far better chance at the UK job than Mr. Sweater Vest does. Does anyone understand that in order to hire this lying, cheating SOB, UK would have to go before the NCAA and "show cause" why a school that is less than 10 years off of NCAA sanctions needs to hire a coach who got his last employer hit with NCAA sactions?

    JDHoss

  • JD, I agree it won't happen but that's how DESPERATE our fans are to have a winning program. We are able to overlook the past problems of a Tressel, Petrino, or coach X... We just want a winning program!

    Because we are terrible?

I'm not buying it. I saw Terrelle Pryor run a pro style offense and I shouldn't have.

Big difference between Tressel and Petrino. With Tressel the NCAA would be camped out at Commonwealth stadium and UK definetly don't need that. With Petrino it would only be his wife there watching over things.

  • Will NEVER happen nor should it.

    bigcat65

  • Tressel would be another Curry. Throw the whole bank at Petrino or bust.

To be fair, Kentucky football doesn't work in the SEC either. blackeye

    Match made in heaven!

I think Tressel would be a fine coach for UK. It's not like he got fired for putting a sub-par product on the field. And our "he can't beat SEC teams" crowd should understand that he wasn't playing Vanderbilt or Mississippi State, he was playing Florida and LSU. They actually beat a good Arkansas team just two years ago. He will get some wins versus the lower tier SEC teams. I personally would prefer the sweater vest to Petrino, but either one would be fine with me, to be honest.

If we cant get Bobby P., we should bring the Joker back for another year IMO. You cant argue our talent and youth. WIthout a "home run" coaching hire, we would be better served with Joker coming back.

  • College Game Day did a feature on Arkansas this Saturday and their implosion this year. Herbstreit said Arkansas should just go ahead and ask permission from U of L to see if Charlie Strong was interested. That's not during the game obviously, and it's a bit different approach from game broadcasts but that seems to be something to watch as the year moves on.

  • I wouldn't have a problem with Tressel. He knows he f****d up and he won't do it again. My understandin is he would have to sit out 5 games in his 1st season. Also, could open up that Ohio/Western PA crop of players we've never been able to get.

I think our compliance dept is strong enough to keep him in line.

  • Speaking of the "show cause" part of the punishment, is it just me, or is this the biggest disportionate penalty we've ever seen compared to what the school got? Don't seem quite right. Of course I loathe tOSU and would like nothing more than to see them get the death penalty.

He did the same thing at Youngstown State before he went to Ohio State...third times the charm, I guess?

Also, if PA/OH talent won championships then Ohio State would have won one of those bloodsheds.

Mr. Sweater Vest is highly unlikely to be employed by ANYONE until his 5 YEAR (5 YEAR, not 5 GAME) show cause penalty has been served.

I think we should bring Joker back regardless. UK is a long term job, and any time there is a change of coaches at a job like this you may see a downturn. I'd like to think that I'm seeing some improvement here

if top tier ky talent and 2nd tier ga/tn/sc talent won championships we may sniff something aside from music city or bbva bowl. I don't particularly like tressel, but I would rather have a proven commodity with established recruiting lines than the next "great coordinator". I don't think well have "great" coordinators knocking down our door to coach.

sadly, tressel is probably cleaner than most of the coaches in the sec. preferably, I would rather have joker succeed. I'm not convinced hes a good head coach.

the show cause is five years, if he's hired he sits out five games. I agree it's highly unlikely.

I can't understand how a sane athletic director can hire him or Petrino. as a program we obviously seem desperate. might as well get the national championship coach, and one that seems to be loyal..enough loyalty to lie to ncaa. lol.
