  • Five game should give him time plenty of to stock up on blue sweater vests and get that Woodford Co. horse farm in order. I hear his kids are already enroled @ LexCath. biggrin

No. Broadcasts don't talk about rumors first of all.

That's not true. They talked about the rumor of Joker resigning.....

  • Did they really? Seems unprofessional, but I guess that's where we are today.

He did the same thing at Youngstown State before he went to Ohio State...third times the charm, I guess?

Also, if PA/OH talent won championships then Ohio State would have won one of those bloodsheds.

Hey Ding Dong It did work more BCS bowl wins than any other school 3 BCS title appearances and 1 National Title! Yes he has as many titles as Calipari oh and he just got 1 season vacated not 2!! Those who live in the house of blue glass need not throw stones!

  • Did you just call me a ding dong?

My point was that clearly, he did not learn the first time, so why would we assume he learned the second time?

Second of all, I never said I did not want him because of what he did at Ohio State. I'm saying I don't want him, because Big Ten ball does not work in today's Southeastern Conference.

He won a National title in 2002, since then he has been beaten by 14 points and 27 points in National Championship games. It's not hard to win the Big Ten or the Big East.

Jim Tressel is 0-9 against SEC teams in bowl games. And yes, I'm counting last year's Sugar Bowl game since Ohio State voluntarily vacated that win.

  • He is correct in that Tressel only had one season vacated. He was not cited at Youngstown State because the statute of limitations had run out. The NCAA did cast down the dreaded "lack of institutional control."

In both cases, Tressel was proven to have knowledge of what happened with the impermissible benefits.

It was never proven that Calipari had not knowledge of the invalid ACT test or the impermissible benefits given to Marcus Camby at UMASS.

Nevertheless Coach Tress got it done and knows how to get it done! He won some big games against elite teams and programs ! He would be a major upgrade for the UK Football Program as we said for years in the Great State of Ohio !! The vest knows best!

In bowl games, yes. And he lost those games by a combined 41 points. He was better in his early Ohio State days before the game changed to feature quicker spread offenses.

Terrelle Pryor was a terrible fit for Ohio State. I don't know whether to blame that on the kid not doing his homework or Tressel. Pryor is more of an SEC quarterback and he played in the pound and pocket pass Big Ten. Meyer has been able to mold his offense around Braxton Miller. That's why you see Miller as the best player on Ohio State's offense now. Meyer compared him to Tim Tebow, an SEC quarterback during the SEC hay days. They have a lot of the same strengths and Meyer has been able to take advantage of that.

In conclusion, I don't want any part of Tressel at UK.

  • Mr. Sweater Vest has proved beyond doubt that he is a liar and cheater. Beyond that, I suppose the only other thing you could add is that he's a phoney as well, with his self righteous schtik. Kind of like his book, which excluded a chapter on lying and cheating.

    JDHoss

  • As for Calipari, you are like every fan of the opposition and most writers, you claim what you don't know. Maybe Calipari cheated, I don't know. I can also tell you that I don't know if he did cheat. To throw a man's reputation under the bus without facts is completely jaded and ignorant.

  • If it turns out that Cal cheated at UK and he puts us on probation, then I won't like the guy. I won't have any respect for him. What I DO know is that he has been great for the Kentucky fan base, his players and the community as a whole. I can only work with the facts that have been given to me.

Yes Coach Tressel took one for the team he went down protecting his players that he recruited in hindsight we have all made mistakes that we wished we would have the opportunity to do something differently. Coach Tressel is an excellent coach and caring man ! Fact ask all of his former players and staff members very well respected!

    Kiss45

  • And the same could be said about John Calipari. Whom you have accused of cheating on our board and on your home Ohio State board. I did not judge Tressel as a man. I judged him on style of play. Keep that in mind.

I would hardly say he "took one for the team" when he blatantly lied to NCAA investigators. He was protecting himself and the success of the program. If he was protecting his players, then he would've reported the misdoings to the NCAA and it would have then become a UGA, AJ Green situation. "It's ok. It happens. Just pay damages to a charity and he'll sit out a few games." By playing along, he made everything worse for everyone involved.

He may care about his players but he is still a liar and lied over and over and over.

Coach Tressel is a martyr on our Great State! But seriously I know Tressel would win 75 percent of SEC games ! Now they wouldn't be your average 50 points run up the score pretty wins but they would be hard fought close 17-16 ! Trust me Urban Meyer is getting a big diagnosis of BIG football!

    Kiss45

  • Maybe, but he's undefeated with players that he didn't recruit and with a different system. Not that they've played more than one decent football team.

  • There are a lot of things that get missed when considering Tressel's success (or perceived lack thereof) against SEC squads in bowls but the biggest is that he was, particularly late in his career, playing against the cream of the crop in the SEC. The Big Ten has been the lesser conference (and perpetually overrated) for at least 10-15 years, so it was perfectly predictable that OSU would be the underdog. He was not playing against Vanderbilt or Mississippi State or Ole Miss or Kentucky. I think it would be perfectly reasonable to believe that he would come to KY and turn us into a regular 6-8 win team. The guy can recruit and is a fairly reasonable coach. I also think he got the shaft a little bit on the NCAA stuff, but such is life sometimes.

  • Show Cause Penalty on Tressel expires 12/19/16. Before that time his hiring as any NCAA school coach would involve him sitting out the first 5 games and any conference championship or bowl game. Doesn't sound too bad, does it? But here's the "rest of the story". The school that hires him has to file a detailed report with the NCAA every 6 months concerning his activity as coach. It is likely that the NCAA will also send a "spy" to that school to secretly monitor him. And if even a "minor" violation is found, the school will face the same penalties Ohio State faced. Kinda like a parolee who slips up and has to go back to do the time forgiven, except his FAMILY has to go to jail with him. NOW it sounds pretty bad, doesn't it? So FORGET Tressel and quit wasting our time with these tired threads! no
