  • Per Arkansas reporter Jim Harris, John L. Smith was asked if Bobby Petrino would be more likely to end up at Kentucky or Auburn as coach and he said 'Better guess would be Auburn'

  • I don't see any way chizic gets fired. National title 2 years ago. 8-5 last year. Plus didn't he sign a big contract extension last year? Who wants to go to a place that fires you after that kind of record.

  • Wasn't Petrino at Auburn when he took the Louisville job? Did he have permission when he started talking with Louisville?

    katfan53

  • Obviously, he would choose Auburn over UK if both jobs were being offered. AS of now though. Auburn is still more of a question mark.

The same could be said for Kentucky.

We are all acting as if Joker's termination is a done deal. As far as I know, neither Auburn OR Kentucky have announced a job opening.

  • Was this during the same interview when he said Arkansas was a "state of Alabama program". Dude has to have some type of dementia or something going on. Why they keep letting him get in front of a microphone I'll never understand.

Obviously any coach would take the Auburn job over the Ky job.

Although firing Chizik 2 years removed from a title, and when he has put together a very talented team, but they are just extremely inexperienced. They will be title favorites in 2 years, and top 10 next season. Don't see them firing him, but Auburn is ran by a select few, very powerful boosters.

Uhhh. If it ain't a done deal, then I'm done as a fan. Arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic just isn't fun anymore.

Really? Look, I'm probably one of the biggest if not the biggest Joker supporter around. But I can even see the the writing on the wall.

  • If it comes down to Barnhart or Auburn's AD to make a good football decision who do you all think wins out?

Auburn and Bama really do not get along and Auburn will do anything to keep up with the Sabans of the world and if that means firing a successful coach to get one who can beat Alabama, they will do it. Petrino, for all his faults fears no team and would do well in Auburn because as we all know, Alabama is football crazy just like Kentucky is basketball crazy.

Why you have to degrade Barnhart at every chance is beyond me. It's getting old and tired! You act like he killed your best dog. Leave the man alone. He's the best AD UK's ever had! That's a fact!

Mitch has said money is not an issue. So if a coach like Pertrino chooses a Auburn over a UK it's the tradition not the AD. Wow! Some people!

    footballcat65

  • Petrino was OC at Auburn before coming to UL, and flirted going back there; which nearly blew up in his face, the year before he left for the NFL gig. So as long as he's still in good standing with the right boosters there, regardless of difference in program history, he'd still be more likely to go to Auburn. But then comes the question, will they have an opening?

    CatfaninIndiana

  • Well, if Petrino indeed heads to Auburn, I'm all for getting Schizick at UK.. Matter of fact, I'd rather have him..

When did Mitch say "money is not an issue", and in what context was he saying it? Was he referring about hiring a football coach?

Also, I thought Petrino couldn't go to a SEC West school as part of his agreement with Arkansas?

yes, Mitch said money was not an issue for a coach. It's everything else that gets a little tricky

Because he is a very bad AD for a lot of reasons. And anyone who thinks he is the best AD UK has ever had basically shows what they know about the history of UK athletics with that statement. People forget the legal suit that Billy G filed against UK and the AA which is the AD. Cost UK over 3 million and is probably the reason we ended up with Joker and his coach in waiting status instead of a program changer.

Mitch has said a lot of things but the problem is nothing changes with the football program.

You need to go back a few years to find the best UK AD for football and that has to be Bernie Shivley, a real football AD who was an All-American blocking for Red Grange at Illinois. He hired the Bear. He was UK's AD from the 30's until he died in the late 60's. He was the driving force in getting UK to build CWS which came after his death. He even hired the Bear. Now who is the best AD? Wow some uninformed people.

HAHA...It's not that I don't agree with what should be the inevitable verdict, but in case you guys didn't know... Mitch and our illustrious football program are full of surprises. When something makes sense... they do the opposite. Just wanted to warn you guys not to get overly excited and so sure of yourselves... remember who we are dealing with at the helm.

Come on Dice. The 3 mill. to BCG had nothing to do with hiring Joker. That's really a stretch. Mitch has done a great job with all sports with what he's had to work with. Do I want more done for football? Hell yes. But it's not just up to Mitch.

Mitch is the best AD UK has ever had, which is not to say Mr. Shively wasn't a powerful and constructive force for UK sports. But by and large, we haven't had many good ADs that were good for both football and basketball. In Mitch's case, he's been good for many other sports, none of which I really care about, but the people he works for do.

You disparage those of us with this opinion of Mitch, yet your resume for Bernie doesn't exactly make a strong case. Al Cowlings blocked for OJ, and he drove his getaway truck--but that doesn't mean he'd make a good AD. Bernie did hire the Bear. Since you mention it twice, you'd probably agree with me that it was the best thing that ever happened to UK football. But you fail to mention he also lost the Bear, which is the worst that ever happened to UK football. As bad as things are for UK football right now, they don't compare to some of the darkness that surrounded the program in the 60s while Bernie was in his last days.

To the point of this thread, Mitch is a man of great integrity. While he may be somewhat tempted by Petrino's obvious abilities as a coach, he'll understand the risks to the team, the university, and to the state, that would come with hiring coach who is devoid of integrity.
