Joker

  • Really starting to dislike him.

  • Me to recruiting all these players that wanted to come to UK to Florida but choose not to at UK...

    ashain04

  • Now going after Timmons per various reports.

  • As we saw UF vs UL, anything that guy touches turns to crap....

    cousincarl

  • Florida had some issues before Joker, barely beat ULL earlier this year thanks to a blocked punt and score. The really need WR's and a QB that doesn't predetermine where he is going to throw the ball before its snapped.

Joker didn't coach before or during that game. He was recruiting only until after the Sugar Bowl.

As for the original issue of recruiting Ryan Timmons, which I guess is what the OP was referring to, what exactly did you expect? He recruited the kid at Kentucky. The kid liked Joker and respected him a lot but didn't seem real convinced the program was going the right way or was the right fit for his talents. Why wouldn't Joker tap into his home state roots and recruit the kid now that he's at a high profile school? If he liked him for UK and Florida's WRs aren't very good (which they're not and haven't been for awhile) why wouldn't he use those contacts to see if the kid would consider Florida, especially if he knows the kid liked him? That's what recruiting is.

  • Geez, from what I have read the last 18 months Joker can't coach, recruit, call plays or wipe his butt. I'd say if Neal Brown loses a recruiting batte to Joker, we have bigger issues than we are aware.

I think he was talking about Woulard.

  • I guess you guys thought he would just lie down after we spent most of his 3 yrs as HC trashing him. Joker is a competitor and just because he was no longer welcome at UK has done little to change his competitive spirit.

Either way, why wouldn't he recruit a player like that? A 4-star player from the state of Florida who is considered one of the better players nationally at his position? Of course, he's going to recruit him.

Matt, just for the heck of it, I feel like saying something that you already know......

You can say it until you're blue in the face; you can beat your head against the wall for emphasis....it just doesn't matter what you say or what you do.....it ain't happening, lol.

That being said, I admire your effort. :)

Maybe because we didn't recruit dual-threat QB's for our pro style offense. Just sayin' ...

    Whitlow?

    bigbluerules

  • Joker is trying to steal our thunder. As much as I am starting to dislike him, I do not mind recruiting against him. Not only is he not that great of a recruiter, if we beat him out for a big time recruit, it is simply a slap in the face, that at this point he deserves.

    stevendoubleu

  • Damn I get a down vote for pointing out that he Joker does recruit dual threat QB's?

    bigbluerules

  • Tad harsh..Joker is a very genuine guy..and a good person. I think he was too relaxed, too calm demeanored for Hc..its his JOB to recruit for Fla..we shouldnt get upset cuz he recruits Ky kids..
Not saying we should like it..I hate everything Florida football..lol..but i think we wind up with Timmons unless Ohio St offers.

    Whitlow?

Whitlow was recruited by the staff with every intention of moving him later. The list is long with players that were QB's in HS and were moved when they got here or shortly after they got here. Most recently Bubba Tandy. Bookie Cobbins, Tyler Brause, Dakotah Tyler, Brian Adams, LaRod King, Matt Roark, Deaunte Mason, Randall Cobb, EJ Fields, Gene McCaskill.

Whitlow was an athlete recruited to play WR, but was thrown into the QB role due to Max Smith going down.

He was recruited to eventually move to wr but the former staff let him have his shot at qb and did well enough to stay there for this season cause Sanders, while people hated his play calling(I did also), wanted him to rs and they thought Newton would of been in better health to hold down the back up position. Smith gets hurt during Western Kentucky, Newton flops at Florida, Smith gets seriously hurt against USC lite, Whitlow gets the nod and we burn Towles rs cause of his dad saying something to Vaught(Towles gets a bad rap for nothing he did or said). This is something we won't have to worry about with the new staff,

On the topic on hand, Phillips is doing his job at Florida and it's a easier sell at Florida than it is at Kentucky. Joker really wasn't cut out to be a head coach here, in all honesty, we should have never did the whole HCIW thing.

    Why so serious?

    morbidky84

  • I call BS on the idea of not recruiting a QB because he moves well... Having the ability to run doesn't matter because the kid has displayed tons of arm talent, he was MVP of the E11 camp for christ sake! it's about being accurate and getting the ball in the right place. Having 4.5-4.6 speed does not matter...

  • If I remember correctly, and I think I do, he's getting paid to recruit. Nothing wrong with it.

Agreed. Joker did his job here to the best of his ability -- it just wasn't enough. He deserved to be fired and he was. Now he's trying to do his new job. I hope he succeeds, just not at our expense. But if we move up into another classs of recruits, as the new staff is trying to do, we will run into Florida from time to time, and Joker is their recruiting coordinator.
