Joker Phillips to Florida?

  • Florida: Sources tell us Will Muschamp has agreed to hire Joker Phillips (wide receivers plus additional duties). Look for Joker to be announced & to start working later this week.

  • Interesting if true. Source close to Joker told me last week he had some initial contact with a Sun Belt team that was interested in him as a head coaching candidate.

  • Florida wants him for his recruiting prowess, nothing more.. The WR coach is just what they gave him, probably because they know that's the position he played.. IMO, a good move by Muschamp, if true..

  • Just great.........now Joker can help continue the Kentucky losing streak to Florida, just not from the Kentucky bench! Wonderful!

    I am happy that he has landed a good job, just wish that it would've been outside the SEC.

    He was hired as WR coach because we don't have one, and that position is probably our weakest. Tough for us to recruit and produce great WRs, which has been a big problem for us this year, as evident by our passing game, or lack thereof. Former coach resigned this year due to being involved in the whole Miami scandal that went down, so this is going to be big for our offense.

    He's a very good receiver's coach as attested by guys who played under him like Burton, Johnson, Holt, Tamme, and Chris Matthews (CFL Rookie of the Year--don't think that's been mentioned on here)

    He's an excellent recruiter, like Florida needs help on that

    And he's a good man. I wish him nothing but the best even if it's in Gatorland.

    Joker recruits Ga, South Carolina, and Kentucky well. In Georgia he has many connections especially around Atlanta and Lagrange.

    No matter who the coach is...UK is a bball school with not much room to be successful as a FB program...

    You're right and wrong. Joker was a victim of circumstance.

    Kentucky is a "basketball school" due to tradition, but to think that they can't have a football program because of the past is incredibly short sighted. What does basketball have to do with the football team?

    Unfortunately, recruiting is the last thing that you have to worry about with Joker. He relates to kids well.

  • South Carolina and Georgia are his best locations. He was always Brooks best recruiter from back when he was first hired. Best thing about him at WRs coach is that he was big on getting them to be physical. Kind of fell off in the last few years, but the 2006-2008 teams always had guys that were great at blocking.

    And why the hell would he be a traitor? We just fired him. I'm guessing as WR coach at UF he is going to make just about as much as he would anywhere unless he was a head guy again. I'm pretty sure Joker Phillips as UF WR coach isn't going to give them any more of an edge than they've had the last 26 years or so. Dude deserves a right to go make a living and as long as he isn't at Louisville, good on him.

  • Florida makes its hiring of Joker Phillips official. He will coach wide receivers and be the Gators' recruiting coordinator.

    I just dont see how you can say that. He went where he could work in a winning enviroment and I say congrats. The SEC is the "Grandaddy" of college football and if you love to coach you would want to coach in the SEC.

    You're an idiot. He did fail as a head coach, but he is a hell of a wide receiver coach and offensive coordinator. Not to mention he can recruit his ass off. Completely ignorant take.
