Joker and the future

  • This team is the most up and down team I have ever seen. But guess what? They are freshman and sophomores. Pretty sure that is the calling card for young talent in college football, they are up and down. More often than not you see the upside progress and the downside go away with experience which they are gaining this year. We are about to enter into an offseason where there will be several coaching changes and one where we might not be the beneficiary of something as great as maybe after next season with the competition among BCS teams. With a tough schedule next year would it be wise to bring him back one more year? If the team responds to him the rest of this year and we win 3 of the final 4 games, does he deserve another shot? No coach could take this team and do much with them considering their youth. If you are on that bandwagon from before this year that begged for him to get fired then I would assume your answer would be to still get rid of him. But honestly, how can anyone make a decision on Joker based on this year full of injuries? I would love to see a Joker Phillips with 1.5 million for recruiting and not 300k. From my count, that would be 1.2 million more in spending, not the 2.55 it would cost to fire him. Just a thought, but maybe they should spend more money on the program and not just on a new coach. No coach is going to be successful in the SEC with 300k in recruiting dollars. Just isnt going to happen, not in KY.

  • Changing coaches for the sake of changing coaches seems futile to me. Until there is a strong institutional commitment to the football program, the revolving door of head coaches will not be sufficient to move this program to any other level, and keep it there.

  • I like your thinking and tend to agree with you. This team showed a lot of moxie against GA and I thought Sanders and George were very punishing runners last night. No one is talking much about it but everyone saw it.

  • Most people said he could get by with 3-9, maybe... And that was not thinking there would be lots of injuries. All the losses, and so many who already hated him have made it tuff to keep things in perspective. The wky loss did hurt, but only by 1 in OT, so not the end of the world. But, I think that 4-8 is the only way he would feel safe. But, I still think he's back with a 3-9 record bc the team was so young and beat up, and talented! But, like Trenton has said all along, I don't think we will have all of his staff back. I just hope we take the game last night against a top 10 team, and progress the last 4, run the damn table!!! Not likely, but do people know that UK is actually still bowl eligible at 5-7 based on a new rule this year lol? I posted the espn article about the rule change early in the season, just sayin. Go big blue!!!

  • I agree on not changing coaches just for the sake of doing it. . . I'm going to stand behind the decision either way it goes, and can understand reasons for both. . . On the recruiting budget thing, I don't think that is a factor, wasn't LSU's budget even less than ours in that report that has been going around lately?

  • Over the course of a season, teams turn in above average and below average performances in individual games. Was last night one of those anomalies, or was last night a sign of an emerging vigor that will be sustained over the last 3 games.

We will learn more about that in a week. Even with a loss at Missouri, if this team remains in the game to the last possession, as it did last night, I will be more inclined to consider it an emerging trend, but if the Cats lose to Missouri by 3 or more scores, then last night was probably just lightning in a bottle.

It was. But my problem is we are in KY. Not Louisana. Not Texas. We cannot stay in the state of KY and recruit and compete in the SEC. They can. Also, we are not LSU. Our name doesnt sell itself. If we ever got to the point to where ti did, I am sure we could spend less. But right now...how on this earth does it make sense that we spend the same amount as LSU?

  • We might win one more game..Joker is gone..Prepare for it..be glad for it....I dont think Mitch will change just to be changing..There are plenty of people up there that want a change and are now stepping up to the plate to facilitate a change that will make us respectable again..Relax until Dec 1st and then you can get real excited...Keep these two words in mind every time you want to make another post about Joker staying....Empty seats.....

My arguement is it will not matter who the coach is if we dont spend more on the program and recruiting. Nick Saban couldnt win here with us spending 300k a year.

  • Has anyone seen the accounting or the money in the athletic department? I'd love to see both pies. The way the money comes into the AD and the way they divvy it up. The school apparently from what I've read on here doesn't put that much into the coaches salaries but media and associated deals make up the bulk. Just saying it would be a good thing to know.

You're a born loser. You're exactly what UK has feasted upon for years which has allowed this problem to spiral out of control for decades.

Hmmmm...imagine that a fan supporting his team, trying to be upbeat and realistic is the loser here? I guess I want to be with the losers.

Really? That's your input on a uk message board lol... I know that personal attack is merely a sad picture of yourself and your own personal life. I've had more success in 30 years than u probably have in your entire miserable life, but that's not what people discuss on here. But you wouldn't know, since all you do is sit around and read people's posts and wait to jump in like an idiot and post your little quips and sarcastic remarks. We get it, way to go bud!! I don't mind that you are so cynical and simple that all you can add is sarcasm and dreariness, but don't attack me personally, you don't know me. Do us all a favor and get a new MO, and don't attack posters personally. I never like your tired posts, but Id rather see you cut and paste your stupid "remember folks, this is all happening bc brooks recruited bad the last two years" comment than be insulted! Thanks.

Good response to that Shepp. . . Everyone that has been around here for a while knows how miserable of a person and poster Minter is, and I don't think anyone even cares what his opinion is on anything anymore. It's all the same everytime. . . Go CATS!

  • Joker has more than $500,000 for recruiting. Said so himself. Don't know of ANY programs with $1.5 Million!!!

Had we not had the rash of injuries at QB I certainly feel that the record would be better. Last night we did look much better prepared than usual in the CJP tenure.
However, I look at it like the terminal patient that has the brief reprieve, looks great & sounds great right before keeling over dead.
I still believe to be successful we must have sweeping changes in the mindset of UK Football in the administration starting with changes in the staff from the top to the bottom.

    Go Cats!
    cheers

  • Joker and his staff spend what they feel is needed for recruiting. He could spend double the ammount if he wanted to.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • That's what I'm talking about fellas, a real nice moral victory. Against a team looking over us. Lifetime contract time. Keep joker keep joker keep joker. We have a real chance of winning 4 games in 2 seasons. Now that's real success. Whoever Jake Trenton is tell him to stick his wrong opinion up his booty. Changing coordinator's and keeping joker is retarded.

  • I am sorry, but the biggest problem with this team is the coaching staff. We we played a very poor game in our first game of the season and got beat by Western while we were realatively healthy. While the UGa game was encouraging in some ways we still gave up over 400 yards passing. I am still wondering why we couldn't run the ball in our 1st 3 games when we had a passing game to loosen things up, but with little threat of passing we can line up and run against UGa.

OMG!!!! You are so right! My mistake..if Joker said it while under contract with UK...it MUST be right. Just like Obama is for coal and Clinton didnt have sexual relations with that woman. I can always tell you are the type to believe everything you hear. So this post really didnt concern you. For what its worth, you have the wrong horse. If Joker had unlimited spending, Im fairly certain he would be spending more than what we did at Madness. Its like asking a kid what he wants for Christmas. If he says he wants a Porsche, Im guessing hes not getting one of those even though you told him if he was good hed get what he asked for.
