Joker has Cats in good shape.

I am in UK's corner the whole way, but to get crazy saying we can play with the other SEC teams after beating a very weak MAC team is jumping the gun a bit. Let's take baby steps and enjoy the win, hope we come improved next week againist WKU as we will have to be or it will result in a L. If we can keep improving, then there might be a glimmer of hope. If we don't improve and improve a lot by week 4 & 5 it will be a long season. I am backing the CATS and giving the players the support they deserve. Just not jumping the gun to paint a picture the staff has fixed it yet.

I do believe they can play offensively with any team in the SEC if our Oline has a good game. Our receivers are just as good as Georgia receivers or Florida when they catch the ball. I live here in Ga and watch every game. Aaron Murray is just that good. He can make your avg receiver look good. Before its all over Max Smith will be one of the best qbs in the SEC now whether that carries over to winning is a different story because offense sales tickets while defense wins games.

Talk about WKUs defense all you want but keep in mind that the WKU offense put up a goose egg against Bamas defense.

And what would UK's offense put up if they played @Bama next week? Denard Robinson put up 14 pts on a neutral field.

I think Michigan's starting RB was suspended for that game.

I agree our offense looked better, but I won't go the whole way we can play with any SEC team.
Remember our offense was playing against a lower level MAC team. Not taking anything away from our O-line, QB, WR on Saturday, they got the job done and I applaud that. I'll take improvement whenever we can get it. All I am saying is until they play againist a SEC team I will hold off painting "all is great" picture. One cannot forget the level of competition we played againist Saturday. Kent's D-line, DB, LB'rs and Safeties are not SEC caliber. There is a reason they are playing for Kent and not SEC teams. If we could not come out Saturday and put a whipping on Kent State I would say this season was over. This is what should be expected and congrats on them for doing it. I hope come week 4 we prove we can play in the SEC. I believe game 4 will tell us a great deal. Until then, these games are great for the players confidence and lets them get some momentum and some fan support back, all of which are greatly needed. I am praying for a butt kicking against WKU Saturday. It's exactly what we need rolling into the swamps on 9/22. And you are right defense wins games and we gave up over 400 yards against a lower MAC team. Just keeping it real.

I agree with what you're saying but the thing that gets me is before the Kent St. game people were saying it was going to be a very close game? Then UK blows them out then those very same people say well we should have blown them out. They were also saying WKU would beat UK now they're saying UK should blow them out? Which one is it?

I think it's the other way around though. You guys make ridiculous predictions and wait to be right. When's the last time you were right?

And as for UK not being built to run the ball, you may be irght, but who's to blame for that? I love how Joker talks about his new frshmanpile movers in the off season, only to not have a stout enough O-line to block for them. I allowed myself to suspend my realistic expectations leading up to the UL game, but this team is not built to win in the SEC, and it's just obvious. We will possibly win one game we are not supposed to, but that's it. Hope I'm wrong. AS for the OP, if you are confident we will beat Fl and Arky, I will take your bet!

First of all get your head out of the place that you are keeping it and read me back any predictions I have ever made. You act smart, not only here but everywhere you go online preaching this same sermon. If UK ain't a power running offense who's to blame, its gets old and everyone tells you that. Hate Joker if you like, I am for the team, I will back the team, and guys like you are just going to have to put up with me. And on being right catmando, don't leave your day job.

Wow.WKU? Really? So, after Uk puts up 45 on WKU, then you might join in on the optimism? Hope so..this team needs the fans behind it. Lets support our Cats, not criticise them at every turn. I really think Max Smith is special, and a leader. He gets the ball off so fast it keeps the rush off him. Hes been great at check-downs. Has the clock set firmly on 3 seconds. This cat offense can turn a defense's agression against them.

I think you confuse criticism with reality, WKY has improved their program greatly and it will be a tough game. Overlooking these points make you look like an over the top type of UK fan, which you can be because its your life, but expect rebuttal posts back at you from some of these guys.

People will jump on and off the whole season and season to season. All I am saying is UK has win 2 of their first 3 games every year and really there is an arguement we should win 3 of 3. I think we'll beat WKU. I'd say by maybe 14 (hoping its more but it's nothing more than a guess), I look for WKU to be able to keep it closer than Kent due to their defense, which I believe is far better than Kent's, but maybe not. The problem I think WKU will have is their offense. But again, cannot judge them by the Alabama game because they just played the best of the best and I don't think anyone can argue about that. Bottom line is UK has to win Saturday and then go to the Swamp on 9/22 and win. Playing them close is not good enough. At the end of these season it's about W and L. Close doesn't get you a darn thing.

Actually that kind of advice is for teams like Bama and GA, not UK. With the personnel we have, we can't play power football with Kent State must less any SEC team. We have a young Oline, which is why we are going with the no huddle, its also why Smith doesn't get extreme pressure all the time because of doing the 3 step or being in the Shotgun. Our running game's success comes from great wide receiver and tight end blocking around the ends as we saw in the KSU game, not from blowing people off the LOS. The passing game is setting up the runs, which is what we have to do for now. Mistakes and penalties can still destroy this offense of ours so we have to run what is the strengths of our personnel to win any future games.

Great post. The WKU-Bama game has me worried. The WKU defense scored SIX sacks. I hope for a blowout but expect a close win.coffee

Ok, haters..you know who you are..the ones that have been calling for Jokers head and saying wed struggle with Kent ST and WKu..whats to hate on now? UK has one of the best QB's in the SEC...if not the best. Max Smith has completed 73% of his passes for 6 tds and 0ints in 2 games. Smith stands in the pocket, will take a hit to make a big completion. The WR's are playing awesome. Aaron Boyd, Larod King, D.Sweat, G.McCaskill. Whats more, the wr's are blockling very well. Ray Sanders has 183 yrds rushing..witha td, and around 50yrds rec. George looked good in limited action, as did Mobley. The O-Line has played very well. Defensivley, other than 1 big play from a guy with 4.28 40 speed, Kent managed only 1 scoring drive. UK's young defenders flew to the ball, I saw more swarming, more tfl's, more pressure. J.D. Harmon is a walk on cb, at 6'2 197...kids gotta get a scholly!! Lowery, Tyler, D.Blaylock all played well..Tiller too, except for a iffy penalty. Neloms looked like a all-pro at corner..that ff hit was big time. Overall..I think playing the younger, more athletic kids turned out well..Khalid Henderson and Pancho Thomas both played well..Travaughn Paschal looked like aother speed rush option beside Dupree. Donte Rumph and Mister Cobble both played liek All-SEC DT's. Florida and Arkansas have been my upset specials..you can check my other posts..and Im sticking with both of those. Florida was lucky to eek out a 20-17 win over Mizzou..neither team played well offensively. Arkansas lost to UL-Monroe..at home..in OT. The hogs defense is very poor..if you think Uk has problems on d...watch the hogs d. I knew Rick Minter would get the defense playing better..and I also know we are ridiculously young on d..so we will take some lumps. But you have to commend Minter for taking the responsibility on his shoulders and having the insight to put the faster, more athletic frosh in and scale down the defense to allow the players to play agressive and fast. Things are really looking good for Uk going forward..barring injury..Smith looks as good as any young QB in college football, and our recievers are making plays. As the young defense matures and learns more and more of the defensive playbook...the Cats will upset a few teams..lose a few we should win at the same time. I still think 7 wins is attainable this year. 2013 will be a special season..as we lose only a handful of players..with a good recruiting class..Cats could surprise the SEC east next year!

    Is that you Pepsi?

  • Defense has to improve drastically. The front still gets lost in their alignments.I guess this defense isnt gap orientated or something, because it sure looks bad when Kent busts long gains up the gut.

I know football games and their stats are not transitive, but Western held Bama to 35 points.

WKU Stopped Lacy and Yeldon to like 50 yards apiece and sacked McCarron 6 times. One thing for certain, Bama's Oline is better than ours.

WKU also had more first downs than Bana after 3 quarters. Had they not turned the ball over 3 times it would have been a less lobsided game.

I think our game next week will be close and whoever wins turnover battle will win game.

Yeah..but Mccarron isnt as good a qb as Max Smith. Smith gets the ball out in a hurry, has a super quick release and a strong accurate arm. Uk's offense uses a defenses speed and aggression against them. Our O-Line may not be as good as Bamas..but its good..nonetheless..in what they do. Were not going to line up and churn yards..but who wants to? Id rather sling the ball around...this is the same scheme..well, closely resembles the same scheme that Boise St and Oregon used to go from nothings to power programs. You dont have to be a power running team if you have an accurate qb and talented recievers. In this offense, you want athletic, long armed O-Linemen that can get to the second level, blocking downfield.

    BigBlueDawg12

  • As for WKU..I see a 45-7 game. I think our offense can move the ball on anyone. Let the rush come..Smith will kill them with check downs, dump offs, and screen and hitch passes. Then when they get up too close..I see a couple long td throws. Over the top. Calling you out Sweat,LeGree,King. Boyd looks to be our possession guy. Man..Ive never seen a wr play so well after being a 4 star #1 in-state recruit..then busting for 3 years. Aaron Boyd has an outside shot at playing for pay..he's 6'4 220 has good athletic ability. Now he seems to have the hands, toughness, and want to to go with the skill. Im still waiting for EJ Fields to break out and have a monster game.. a 6rec 175yrd 3 td day. But that might fall to Robinson or Sweat now.
Alabama didnt bring thier A game vs WKu..anyone thinking so is wrong. they played flat at times..the line didnt pave the way like thier usual roadgrader selves. UK will look to swarm to the ball..bring the safties up and rush from all angles. Lots and Lots of run blitzing in week 3!! WKu havent palyed vs Cobble and Rumph and Ukwu..who..when playing at 100% effort,..form as good a 3 man front not named Bama. No..they havent played every snap like that..but we saw more of it vs Kent..and will continue to see more plays from our big guys up front.

We'll be competitive in the SEC. My worry is Joker's game management and losing 34-27 every game. GO UK, I'm still behind them and hope for wins.

If we lose every game in the SEC 34-27 Coach Phillips would get a life time contract.
