Joker haters.....

  • "This could be the most important hire in UK football history."

That's the same thing I was saying about the post Brooks era! I really thought we were in the best position UK had ever been in to take the next step and make a big hire. I was unhappy w/ the CIW, not because I disliked Joker, but because I thought, he wasn’t ready, and we were missing the chance to make the kind of hire that could truly revolutionize UK football and make us a viable SEC program.

Once Joker was hired, I got behind him and hoped that I was wrong. Like many of us have said, the best thing that could happen to UK would be we end up with a great coach that is also a hometown guy, and plans on making a career out of it. At this point though, it looks like that’s not gonna happen. One thing intriguing about a possible Petrino hire is I could forsee him retaining some of our current coaches, and I don’t think that would necessarily be a bad thing, as long as he wasn’t doing it against his will.

New coach talk, though likely inevitable, is a little premature at this point. For now, despite those on here who think otherwise, I’ll continue to hope against all odds that Joker manages to turn it around and have a winning season.

    Agree with all that.

Who cares about attendance at some other school? We are at levels that have not been seen at Commonwealth in 15 years. The program is not doing well and we should want better. Does anyone honestly think the lack of fan support is due to the economy instead of a foundering program and its irritating and arrogant attitude toward the fans? UK fans have supported a dog before as long as it doesn't constantly growl at them. All of this talk about other schools and the economy is just diverting attention away from the real problem. Forget about Florida.

That's right. Forget about UF, UT, UGA, USCe, Vandy. They have no relevance to UK's situation. Until someone like Z wants to use it against Joker and the program. Wow!!!

Our economy is probably about the same as it is in Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Baton Rouge, Knoxville, and even Starksville.

I agree that the economy has something to do with attendance but it is just plain stupid to say that our ticket sales are based on who can afford a ticket. Our sales are down for one reason and one reason only and that is the product we put on the field.

Does anyone on this board think that the people who can afford season tickets and K-fund dues in the past can not afford it this year? Think about it for a second.

Have you not seen the attendance numbers at the schools you quote. Do some research. Did you see the picture above of UF's home opener? LSU is offering 3 game packages. Gainesville has thousands of vacant seats. UT's season ticket sales are off.

You made our point. It is a combination of both economy and product on the field. That's what we have been saying! It's not just the product on the field but the economy as well! A few of you guys just want to point the finger at Joker and Co, and nothing else. So we have to keep reminding you that other schools are down in attendance as well. Good lord!banghead

You've got to be kidding? I guess the economy in Kentucky is just stellar? Really! Wow!

Louisville has had their best season tix sales this year... And their team is barely above suck level.

    Myth busted.

Maybe UKs ticket sales are slow because of Yom Kippur... Remember that mantra we hit them with when their ticket sales plumetted under Krags?

The shining hope is that with this new offensive scheme, which is VERY entertaining to watch- translates to wins. The offensive product is SO MUCH better than last years' frozen train wreck that I HOPE the gate attendance improves as we go along... It could be the case.

I can't see HOW people can blame folks for not shelling out thousands of bucks over the winter for season tix to see more of the same. Now that there has been an amuse-Bouche of offensive excitement, let's hope the defense settles in for a very watchable season.

You use one school to fit your agenda. Go check the other schools that were posted in the thread earlier. Nice try though.

Also UL is a pretty damn good team. To say they're barely above suck level is to lose all credibility in your comments.

  • Coming off a season where they lost to FIU and Marshall... They broke season ticket sales IN KENTUCKY'S economy.

    Fact.

    You lose.

    What exactly is my agenda?

'Hoping our new offense translates to wins so that ticket sales go up?'. If you guessed this you'd be correct. For once.

What are you 12? You lose? Again you use one school. Grow up! UL also started off in the top 25. That's really suck level! And you also have to remember they don't have as many season tickests as other schools because of the smaller stadium. Give it a break.

  • Season tickets were sold way in advance of being ranked in top25 of ONE poll.

    Once again. What's my agenda?

Alot of mags had UL in the top 25 early on not just polls. If you don't think everyone can't tell your trying to say it's all Joker and co. fault season ticket sales are down and it's only happening at UK thent we should end this discussion?

    footballcat65

  • Season ticket sales are directly related to the previous year's W/L trajectory. Amplified, it can pull in smaller variables like new recruits, marketing, facilities/game atmosphere and I'll give you economy...but the latter is SUCH a small part.

If there is a better chance of winning than the previous year, you'll probably have more success selling the future. This was an extremely tough sell for the lack of product on CWS' 2011 squad.

    Kooky Kats 247

  • I agree that W/L's have played a big part in decline in ticket sales. But to say the economy hasn't is wrong IMO. It's happening to a lot of schools. People who just might have wanted to support the team or do the usual tailgating and have been hit hard with the down economy had some tough choices to make.

  • The economy is very likely a minimal part of the problem. Why? If the team were winning you'd see sell outs every week. It's the same at any school. Tennessee hasn't been selling out. Why? They stink. If they were awesome you'd see Neyland full to the flags every week.

  • What's funny is pretty much everyone has agreed that the poor quality of the product on the field is the main reason for slow ticket sales, with a little extra help from a poor economy, yet we're still arguing? Anyone see the irony here? I wonder what's causing the argument to go on?

Sometimes, I wonder if those who accuse everyone of being agenda posters, and Joker haters have ever attended a game? I mean, if they are so close to jump on others who they percieve as negative on the internet, what the heck do they do when such negativity is all around them in person?

I don't know about you guys, but I've sat in almost every section, upper and lower level, between the 30 and the 50 on each side for the last 10 years, and every single game, regardless of my seats, there are people screaming "fire Joker!!!"every other play, and that's not even close to the worst of it. Of course, since about halfway through last year, a lot of those people stopped showing, simply because, a LOT of people stopped showing.

Whatever the case, those who act like everything is all hunky dory have either never been to a game, or don’t have the guts to voice their message board opinions in person.

I can't speak for others but yes I go to games. Can't go to them all, wished I could. And yes I voice my opinion. Always have always will.To come on here and accuse people of being afraid is very childish and immature. This is nothing more than a baiting post.

I'm not baiting at all. Maybe my comment was a little snarky, but it was in response to people on here accusing others of being "AGENDA POSTERS" That kind of crap just needs to stop. Argue the point, not what you imagine as someones reasoning behind their post and everything will be okay.

You need to take your own advice. Also, yes people have agendas it's easy to see. When they get called on it they get very defensive and they go to name calling and such. That is what needs to stop. If you believe in your point then stand up for it and give reasons don't call names. Then all will be just fine and dandy!

  • Economy is a poor excuse for declining ticket sales. Anyone who uses that as a crutch, do you contend the 10% decline in ticket sales from 2010 to 2011 would have been less if the economy was going good? And the 20% decline from 2011 to 2012 would have been less had the economy been going good?

Funny how a many of you havent picked up on Mitch's newest excuse he rolled out last week...that we were not scoring enough points. Not that we played badly, or that we lost more than we won, but just our simpleton fanbase did not see enough points going up on the scoreboard.

Yes, I got frustrated that you made up a blatant lie about me, and, one time, I called you a moron, or an idiot (I don't remember which). I’m sorry. That was childish of me. I do think it is idiotic for you to make up something false about someone you don't even know on the internet, but I it was also idiotic of me to respond the way I did, so for that, I apologize.

You have to understand though, that whether you believe you “can see” other people’s agendas or not, it’s not okay to continuously accuse them of it, because your accusations detract from the football conversation, and take this site to a bickering level. Even if said people had an agenda, that’s okay. They have that right to have an agenda if they wish. Argue against their point, if you wish, but don’t dismiss their argument as agenda because you disagree with it. I mean, couldn’t one easily claim that your agenda is to call out those you consider agenda posters, therefore making you an agenda poster too? It all gets pretty ridiculous.

That's it though. Once again, you've got me speaking about something other than the topic at hand, so I'm gonna shut up now.

Thanks for the apology. If i did lie about something I certainly didn't mean to and i apologize if this happened. Anyway lets just agree to disagree. Have a good one.
