  • I'm more excited about Poythress than ever... he will be a beast next year. He's going to fill the shoes I was most worried about... MKG's. He's quick, very athletic, takes it hard to the rim and hustles on D... if he is that good now, just wait til Cal puts his mojo on him.

I was very impressed by Goodwin as well... he could be another Lamb.

I love Noel... he can be a beast in the paint, but he really needs to beef up and work more on his offensive skills. Cal will whip him into shape I'm sure.

One more thing... Dear Lord, PLEASE make these guys better at the free throw line before the season starts. pray

Goodwin in my opinion has higher potential than Lamb. Noel just needs to work on his O, which I'm hoping he spends the off-season on, and don't worry about the FT shooting. If it makes you feel better, MKG was about a 50% FT shooter in high school, went to UK and was around 76%.

  • I missed most of the first half, thanks to a crappy attempt at a spring game.. with that said, I got to watch the 2nd half. Noel is pretty good biggrin and Goodwin/Poythress keep on impressing me. Can't wait to see 'em all in Blue.

    Keep Calm & Stoops On..

  • Poythress = Rudy Gay.

It's taken me awhile to figure it out, but man, those two have similar games. Poythress plays very upright, like Rudy, and both guys are blessed with length & explosive athletic ability. Poythress is going to be a tough, tough matchup at the 3 next year for most teams.

I think Goodwin is very, very impressive. His athleticism is damn near elite level. I could see him getting alot of people in foul trouble next year. His ceiling as a player is higher than Lamb IMO, but how rapidly he gets there will be a big key to our season.

Poythress is going to be good, and already looks like a man amongst boys out there. He doesn't move as fluidly as MKG, but you can see offensively he may be a notch above where MKG is at currently. Has nice touch on his shot Jeff!!! Haha! Maybe he can be a top 5 pick!?!? Just messing with ya Jeff.

I called Alex a Rudy Gay dunker after watching him in the McDonalds game. Don't think his shot is quite as good as Rudys was but I think he's a better rebounder.

  • Goodwin has the ugliest free throw shot I've ever seen lol I mean he hit some of them but they are just straight line drives. I don't understand how any of them go in.

  • Dykes: Eariler I said I've seen him(Bazz) pass the ball 3 times in the past 2 weeks. That might be an exaggeration but not by much.

I DVR'd it as well. I stopped and erased it about halfway through the 2nd half because I already knew that Poythress and Goodwin are going to be nice players early on. Noel, while a nice shot blocker looks to be way behind Davis on the offensive end. As for the rest, games like this are really hard to watch, and it's easy to see why the quality of play in college basketball has gone downhill.....

  • Maybe it's just me ... but I don't see Noel going after rebounds like he could/should. Seems like he's more inclined to back off and go for blocks ... but once there's not a block, he kinda hovers around waiting for another block as opposed to going and getting the ball that may be dancing around the rim. Anyone else see that as well?

Noel is a "tipper" rebounder. Cal loathes "tip rebounds" If you remember early in the season he lost it over the teal trying to tip rebounds or go for one handed rebounds. He had practices built around rebounding with two hands alone. He will bring Noel out of that. The kid has outstanding awareness around the rim, you cannot teach that. If you have that, then you can be a great rebounder. He will be just fine.

No... you can't really make that determination based on the Jordan Classic. It's all high speed offense every year... with many players (with limited time) running the floor and just hoping to make the highlight reel. Defense (and even rebounding) are pretty much an after-thought. It's always a somewhat sloppy game, with players not really focusing on fundamentals. What I saw from Noel a few times was, instead of crashing the boards for a rebound, he chose to get an early lead up the court... in hopes of being on the receiving end of a "highlight worthy" assist.

Don't read too much into that game when forming your opinions of players.... they will look all together different under Cal and playing in an organized system.

  • These guys have talent. They need coaching and UK needs more multi-year players. We could have really used the kid from UConn. You can imagine how hard it is to start over with only one player who played last year.
