Julius randles and Wiggins Impact on UK

  • IF they signs with us then we might have the best team in recent memory. we are already talented to win it all next but with the addition of randle and Wiggins we might be best off all time( maybe even a undefeated season). what do you guys think? Randle has worked on his perimeter game it looks like.... Last summer he dominated in low post and over powered people driving to hoop.....now he is crossing people getting around them and pulling up for the jumper..now he is driving strong to hoop and pulling up close the basket avoiding charges.. I respect him very much..... if he can extend his range to the 3 point line and beyond in collage.... Him and Andrew wiggins might be the next Kobe and Lebron. watch his recent games after injuries. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYCvCLISBxQ

Here is what you have to remember re: Randle and those highlights.

Now don't get me wrong. I love Randle's game. He's a man among boys most of the time he takes the court.

But Prestonwood plays in the Association of Private and Parochial Schools in Texas. From looking at those highlights, I'm not sold on the level of competition.

But let me state again, Randle is an absolute stud and UK would be lucky to have him.

  • No team dominated by frosh will be considered the greatest of all time unless they do something crazy like go undefeated. People just have a bias against teams dominated by frosh. That was proven last year when the talking heads were hesitant to annoint us a dominant team when it was clear especially late in the season that we were exactly that. I still hear some people say that if Kendall Marshall had been healthy that UNC would have won it all and I laugh out loud. I mean clearly they could have beaten us but I highly doubt they would have if they would have even made it to the championship game. They were good but not on our level IMO.

I know me to. but there is no denying his talent though, he is a special player and will be for long time.

Didn't Randle dominate in events like Peach Jam etc last Summer.?

Talent level and lineup versatility are two of the main points I have heard that the staff sold these two on.

I continue to hear that everyone inside the program would be shocked if Randle isn't a Kentucky Wildcat a week from today. Wiggins, there isn't as much confidence on. The pitch was essentially for him to come to UK, play alongside Randle, the Harrisons, Young, Lee, Johnson and Poythress (yes, Poythress also) and be the star of a recruiting class that makes the Fab 5 look pathetic. And that practicing against McDonald's All-Americans and future lottery picks is going to be better preparation for the NBA than practicing against FSU, KU or UNC's scout team. Cal basically said "don't make any decision until after the All-Star games. Practice against those players and then come back and let me know how much tougher a practice it is than your typical HS practice and how much more challenged you are during that week than practicing against your typical scrubs". Paraphrasing, obviously.

I think Randle was turned off of KU because of the roster. They are guard heavy, which means that Randle could potentially be forced into the post. With Dakari and Marcus committed, plus the remote possibility of WCS or Noel returning, Randle is all but assured he will be playing a 4/3 hybrid role, plus the fact that we use our 4 and 3 interchangeably and they are on the perimter a lot of the time is appealing to Randle.

I hate to speculate and love Wiltjer to death, but his slump seems to coincide with reports I was given that Randle was likely to commit and that it was possible that more people than originally was anticipated were returning. He might be realizing that he could be relegated to the bench next season and this could be affecting his play. Again, this is just my own deduction based on the recruiting information and his lack of production recently. Everyone is going to have to compete.

    UnKnowned

  • From watching the videos of randle, he is going to be almost impossible for college players to deal with. He seems to have a little nasty streak like Boogie. If poy stays to battle that in practice everyday and get tougher those two will dominate any opposing forwards in the country.

    HotSauce

  • Neither player will be at UK..not enough schollies.

    bluecdd

  • How do you figure that?

    1Harrison
    2Harrison
    3Lee
    4Willis
    5Young
    6Johnson
    7Randle
    8Wiggins
    9Hood
    10Poy
    11WCS
    12Harrow
    13Wiltjer

Goodwin or WCS will go pro. But as you see we've got room for both not just one. Polson will move back to walk on status or Hood will just go ahead and graduate and not apply for a 5th year. One or the other.

    tWhit

  • We've got room. However I don't see us getting Wiggins. I do however think we get Randle. Either way we're looking good next year.

  • 2013 lineup: PG (Andrew Harrison), SG (Aaron Harrison) or James young, SF (James young) or julius randle, maybe Poythress*, PF (julius randle) or Poythress* maybe Marcus lee, C (WCS*), or Dakari Johnson. with all this star power i wonder who would be our go to guy?

    * assuming they stay.

With the game on the line, the man they'll want with the ball in his hands will be Andrew Harrison. He won't necessarily take the last shot but will be the one who decides who will and will get them the ball. Should be a great floor general (plus I believe he and Aaron are very strong from the line).

  • If poythress and wcs both return as is rumored... Look out. That will be bigger than jones and lamb staying.

Jones and Lamb returning was pretty huge considering we don't win the last game without Lamb's marksmanship. We also knew that Jones was a legit high level all sec player. Both of these guys have potential, but neither are the sure thing both of those guys were. I do think WCS is by far the most important person we need to return.

Jones was wildly inconsistent his freshman year and lamb was a role player. They grew into their roles.

  • WCS coming back would be huge. Absolutely huge! Im not sure what Poythress adds, though. He doesn't have a motor, and that tends to rub off on other players.

    MinterWonderlnd

  • Poythress is what most talented freshmen look like. Most who aren't elite (we've been spoiled) take time to adjust. Alex didn't play very good competition in high school either.

    hoptownukfan

  • Poy actually improved quite a bit effort wise as the year went along.

Agreed...he may have had some bad games late like all of them did but his effort was far greater in second half of the year then first year...he dove on the floor for balls and wrestled some rebounds away from ppl

I think Kyle had more problems then rather if Randle was signing with Kentucky. After a fast start, he went into a slump early and never consistantly hit his outside shot again. I doubt if players ever really think about who's coming until after the season is over. Plus Kyle was not a starter the whole season this year so that wouldn't bother him because actually more talent is a benefit for him. It allows him to be defensed by the lesser talented player then the stopper like this year.

You can't be serious with this. Jones was SEC freshman of the year. I believe he had over ten double doubles. Lamb was our third leading scorer.

It is huge if we get these guys back, but I'm not gonna even try to say it was bigger than lamb or jones. If we don't have both we don't win the title.
