A bit off topic, but in regards to boxing and the head trauma that comes with it there is an easy solution. Having a bit of an MMA background (7-2 record) the reason you don't see this happening with MMA is due to 6 ounce gloves. Boxers may take anywhere from 300 - 600 punches to the head depending on weight class. 6 ounce gloves reduce that number by a staggering amount. Not to mention it would add an immediate and much needed excitement to the sport.

I too have done some MMA and you are 100% correct Tommy.

Boxing is a very debilitating sport that has lost it's popularity in recent years, due to MMA taking off, in 10-15 years I look for it to decline even further unless they can some how combine all their titles into one or two major titles (or whatever you call it)... I must say, there is no sport that is as detailed or hard to become great at. Boxing is really a very exotic sport, I really wish it could get back to where it was, I will never forget seeing Tyson back when I was a kid... I love boxing, I really wish boxing would do similar to the MMA and merge. Dana White has done a terrific job of getting their brand out there, boxing needs a Dana White but that's impossible because everything is so spread out. After hearing so many real boxing critics talk they to think if boxing could merge it would help them out in many ways, having 25 different belts is so dumb.

Todd! It is outstanding that we have found a topic that we both have knowledge and exp in as well as agree on! Talk about rare! Lol.

I trained at Four seasons under Mike Odonnel and I am long time friends with Allen "Junie" Browining. He actually got me involved in MMA. My relationship with Junie has blessed me with some incredible and unforgettable experiences. During his short time with UFC (Allen has some serious demons and I truly hope he can sort things out as he is as talented a fighter alive...his bro Rob is also really really gifted) I was privileged to attend several live PPV events via backstage. The last was in Columbus OH when Rampage fought Jardine. I sat ringside, get this, beside Matt Hughes and Brock Lesner. UNBELIEVABLE EXPERIENCE! I've even been privileged to attend numerous after parties with a literal who's who of MMA. Ive got hammered with guys like Rampage, Liddell, Ortiz, (on a side note, the fued between Chuck and Tito...total BS used for marketing. And Tito is NOTHING like his "TV persona" he is well like by most and spends a ton of time working with the young guys)
and countless others. My favorite guys I've met, Rich Franklin, my favorite fighter and a class act, and Dana White who may be the coolest MFer I've ever met. Anyway, most may not know this but Dana is a boxing guy. I know he dogs it publicly but that's all business and marketing. He was a boxing promoter and manager when he got into MMA.

Anyway, back to topic, one if the reasons boxing cannot and will never compete with MMA is for a few reasons. 1.) its simply not as entertaining. Adding 6 ounce gloves would go along way imo. 2.) there haven't been any "larger than life" heavy weights in years and years, and the heavy weight division carries the sport. 3.) way way too many titles. Unify those suckers already. 4.) it lacks the athletes it once had. Once upon a time, the heavy weight champ was THE title to carry in this country. Kids grew up wanting to be the "champ" thats just no longer the case. These talented athletes that once wanted to be boxers now prefer other sports, football, basketball, and most importantly MMA. And finally, there just doesn't seem to be any American stars in the sport anymore. Sure there are very talented American boxers, but none of the larger than life variety with exception to Floyd Mayweather who may be more hated than loved. This problem stems back to #4.

In a nutshell, I think boxing has become a "dead man walking" so to speak. Not sayin it will does and go away but imo it will never be what it once was. Jmho

  • Oh and I forgot the other guy who was absolutely awesome to meet and hang out with...Joe F'n Rogan. Not only aone of the most knowledgeable MMA minds alive, but also a 4 time world Tai Kwan Do World champion and seriously one of the funniest dudes alive. If you wanna see something hilarious, Google Joe Rogan crashing a Carlos Mencia stand up show. Joe showed up at his show drunk, walked up on stage, called as on him for stealing jokes, and later kicked his ass later that night. Its hilarious footage.

Take a peak inside Carllexington's mind. He's never met Junior Seau. Never spoken to him. Likely never even seen him. But yet he knows why he killed himself.

    That's a f'd up mind.

In terms of Boxers not having issues with depression, anxiety, and other brain issues? Fail. shut up idiot.

Yet you claim to know it's from concussions. And no shit boxers have had brain issues. My question was how they correlate with suicide. You in reality your retort is a fail. **EDITED**

I don't see where you get that. I'm not bucking science at all. Or brain injuries and head trauma. I know more than you though. About pretty much everything I've seen you discuss. Maybe not Kentucky football. I'll give you that one. I know you're a bitter and sad little man whose every post is either cynical, argumentative, and/or retarded.
