Here's one more post of analysis on the game. I watched it again and this time I ran each play in slomo, which was kind of cool. I different perspective than I have ever watched a game before. So, some of the highlights and lowlights for me, Sorry for the random nature of my thoughts:
* Morgan actually played fine after the first quarter. Not flawless, but not that bad at all. I'm not worried about him. I think he got his first game jitters over with. * I think Gene Mc. will be solid next week. He saw more snaps and looked more comfortable as the game went on. I think one of the WR spots is going to be fine (yes we have two more to worry about). * The more I watch, the worse the Oline looks. My gosh, I would never have believed it. For example, to begin each series, we had an Olineman pushed into the backfield, disrupting the RB. They were having to make people miss to get back to the line of scrimmage. * Lots of talk about how bad Roark was? He was absolutely no worse than Larod King. * The worst play Morgan made was not the early interception, it was the last the one in the redzone. He simply didn't trust the WR and didn't throw the ball. Bad, bad, play. * Mikey Benton played well. Not just well for a walk-on, he played well. * I was disappointed in how Western won the line of scrimmage on offense. I thought the D played really, well, but we were never able to bow up and not give up 2 yards when we needed to. * Kick coverage an punt coverage was very good * I like Randal Burden on the punt return. Nothing flashy, but, there were a couple of times he came up to field the ball instead of letting it hit the ground and saved us 10 to 15 yards each time. * I kept seeing #2 everywhere. Not necessarily making the playing but being right there effecting the play. I finally looked him up. Alvin Dupree... I likey, very much! * I'm not one to question the coaches, but I'd expect to see the snaps be 60% Clemons and rest split between the others next week. Not only did he run better, he seemed to pick up his blocks better also. * Have I mentioned how bad the Oline played? Holy crap! * We never got enough consecutive snaps for the play calling to ever get in rythm. Had to be frustrating for the coaches. It sure was for us fans. * We missed Tyler Robinson a lot I think. I'll be watching to see how the TE blocking picks up next week with him back. * The second worst play for Morgan was missing the FB in the flat WIDE OPEN in teh 4th quarter. He'll be fine I think (I hope) but he never got in rythm either. * The weird interception where Stuart HInes almost caught his second pass. Really bad luck. The Dback hit Jordan A. just before the ball got there, (or just as depending on your view) and the ball popped into the air. Cats were on the plus side of the field and had just converted a running 3rd down play. Just that kind of night * I really, really hope neither Winston nor Danny get hurt this year. Those guys are playing at a whole other level than we are used to seeing. Being in a perfect system, and being seniors, is a perfect storm. * I'm really anxious to see us play a team with more of a passing threat to see how we adjust. One things for sure, the old seven step drop sit and wait for a receiver days are over. We did a really good job getting pressure. That first "miss" the QB for Western had (not the TE, that was just horrible) he missed because he had a defender in his chest and couldn't follow through. That's a win. * Gonna play coach for just a minute. We need to pass more on first down. Even if it's a 5 yard out, it's better than the 1 yard off tackle. Western completely expected the running plays on first down. I think we just lacked confidence and didn't want the negative or net zero plays on first down that we were afraid a passing play would yield. A little success will go a long way there. * When Morgan took off on 3rd down and 14, he did what I thought he could do all night. Not be a running QB, but be a scrambling QB. Hopefully, he'll look at film and see what he did well, and what didn't go well. * Two delay of games on Morgan. That's probably worse than the INT. * It kind of pisses me off that Larod got the TD catch after a really, really bad night. OK, I'm over it now.
* So, overall, if the Oline plays better, we're a LOT better team. Even with the drops, if we had even a decent running game (which we should) the game would never be in doubt. More snaps, more rythm, better offense.
I always say you have to play at least 3 games to know what you have. Anything less is had too many variables to trust. I believe the same here. After Lville, we'll have a better idea.

If our play calling is based on being scared that we are going to turn the ball over we are in more trouble than most people think we are. We have got to be the aggressor or just losing by a little and not alot will be our only win the whole year, especially when we play someone we are not suppose to beat.
