KY Kernel continues to beat the drum

  • Kudos to the Kernel for being more proactive than any media outlet in the state in their attempt to bring to light UK's gross mismanagement of their athletic priorities.

  • Do you understand why uga is able to upgrade their stadium and why uk hasn't been able to?

Because the powers that be at both the university and state government are smart enough to realize how profitable it would be.

  • What harm would it do and what messages would be sent if Pres Eli came out and said,

"as a founding member of the SEC, the University of Kentucky understands the need and committment to excellence both on and off the football field. To this end, we will make every effort to create and implement a plan for success, unparalleled growth and accomplishments equal or surpassing those of the conference membership.

Currently, there are logistical and financial challenges that need to be dealt with, but the opportunity for success is so great that it would be foolish if the University did not make every attempt to resolve such matters."

^. The problem is: they (admin) just don't believe in football success and feel pumping money into it is frivolous and pointless at best.

If you don't think Barnhart has pushed state government for the bonding then you are not in touch with reality.

As I've said. If you guys would focus your furor on David Williams like you have Mitch Barnhart this project would be ready by the 2015 season.

Please forgive me for being unannointed, but just exactly who is David Williams? That said, please be mindful that I do not live in Kentucky anymore, and have not resided there since I left to enlist in the Army in 1983.

Go back and re-read the post-spring game season thread. Pay particular attention to your bullying tactics and stupid predictions. You'll find that you are wrong more often than right.

Even so, you may be right with your 'bonding issue' mantra, but your constant condescending BS is so tired. I don't mean to be mean, but please stop with the attacking and downvoting of other people because they question the lack if success within the program.

If Mitch can't figure a way to make big things happen at an SEC-scale for football, regardless of the bonding issue, he should quit.

    End of statement.

    I second the motion.

Mitch needs to make it happen or move aside & let the next guy try!

David Williams is the Senate Majority Leader (therefore the president) of the Kentucky General Assembly. He's repeatedly denied the University (as a whole, not just athletics) and all state universities for that matter, the ability to bond themselves in capital fundraising matters. State Law requires state permission for bonding since any defaults of said bond would fall to the state taxpayers to cover it. Which is what his, and numerous other state politicians' mantra is to vote down these expenditures in the state's budget.

I'm all for upgrading our stadium or anything else that would help, but, one thing we need to understand is, that there is not nearly as many corporations in Ky. as there is in Ga. So, it would be very hard to get the financial support to do what some people think we need.

There are a ton in Louisville. Many of those folks donated a LOT of money to UK in the past. However, Tom Jurich has basically put a fence around Louisville regarding athletic fundraising. Cal has made major in-roads, however, with Papa John.

  • Again, I'd like to introduce everyone to the concept of "return on investment".......

I don't live in Ky anymore either, but can Williams not be voted out of office? He must have a stranglehold on is position.

    msdcatfan

  • ^^^ Pretty much. Yeah, it's possible to vote him out, but highly unlikely. However, I have seen or heard somewhere (possibly on another topic here) that he may be offered a judgeship, but probably just a rumor at this point. If true though, it would at least take him out of the direct legislative process.

Here is what you are referencing about HOPTOWNUKFAN'S predictions. The "obvious" is not so "obvious".

    HOPTOWNUKFAN says.................

3-4 wins is just a silly predictino. As silly as somebody who tries to say 10

here is the logic behind my prediction.

    A. Our offense was THE WORST since the curry era last year. Not necesarily because of coaching but because of NO qb play, o-line injuries, running back injuries and awful recruiting at receiver. Our offense will make huge strides this year.

    B. Our defense will be better, much better earlier in the season than they were early last season. Our defense was good at the end of last year. It was bad in the begining. That's because of the new scheme. Defense should be pretty good all year.

    My predictions based on this?

Sept. 1, 2012 at Louisville W - Louisville lost about the same amount of production as us. i think we upgrade significantly on offense. They don't. We had a shot at the end last year and we were an AWFUL team at the time.
    Sept. 8, 2012 Kent State W -Obvious
    Sept. 15, 2012 Western Kentucky W - obvious
Sept. 22, 2012 at Florida L - this is the year I think we get it back to a "competitive" game. UF isn't quite as good and we're better.
Sept. 29, 2012 South Carolina W - I think we start a little streak with wins at our place. They are losing some VERY special players. They are good, but they aren't nearly as good and I think we're better. We get them at home too.
Oct. 6, 2012 Miss. State w - same situation as last year. They lost one of the best players in the conference off of their d-line. WE played them close at our place. Are they better? No. Are we? yes. It will be close but I think we win.
Oct. 13, 2012 at Arkansas L - This is one I think we have a shot at but it's at there place and they are very talented on offense.
Oct. 20, 2012 Georgia L - This game could go to overtime but I think Murray is simply too good.
Oct. 27, 2012 at Missouri L - This is a game that we will have a shot it. But Mizzou is a tough place to play and it will be a tough scheme to prepare for. I think we lose a close one. Maybe overtime.
Nov. 3, 2012 Vanderbilt W - We exact revenge for last year. They were improved but they only won 2 conference games. We did the same. The difference is that we are much improved. With all they lost off of their defense I don't see them as being as good. Franklin will take a step back in year 2.
    Nov. 17, 2012 Samford W - obvious
Nov. 24, 2012 at Tennesse W - Yes, two in a row and a win at neyland. Tennessee likely has an interim coach at this point. Da'rick rodgers might be kicked off the team by this point too...

There you have it... that's my prediction. Nice start to the year, mid-season swoon, but three straight wins at the end of the year send us to a bowl game...
