Kentucky baseball wins season opener in dominating fashion, defeating UNC Asheville 9-2 in Spartanburg, S.C.; Play USC Upstate on Saturday

I was on ESPN today looking for their score. They had every ranked team on there that played today but did not have UK. Assholes. They don't mention UK if it's not bball.

After yesterday's game was postponed because of snow and today's delayed four hours Kentucky hammered Niagara 20-3 to move to 2-0. J.T. Riddle went 6-for-6 in the game, Austin Cousino homered and Jerad Grundy got the win. Saturday's game against USC Upstate being made up at 1 pm tomorrow.

Cousino is a beast. Any way you could give us a rundown of the roster Matt? A 2 deep depth chart with the rotation and closer and top 3 middle relief guys? Uk's baseball team has improved drastically from the early 2000's under Gary Henderson. Mitch Barnhart has solidified all of UK's sports programs..not just the Basketball and Football ones..but Lady's Hoops..Softball, Volleyball, Tennis. Love seeing UK on ESPN in other sports!!

Cousino with a 2 for 4 day with 2 walks 2 runs scored a homer and 2 steals. Played well in the outfield at center..nice nice player. Sparkplug of this team! AJ Reed looked hittable at times but solid outting with 4 K's and allowed 6 hits in 5 innings. 2 Earned runs. Like to see him with a few less hits..but we'll take todays performance.

I'll do that as much as I can when I get the chance later tonight or in day or two (I have jury duty tomorrow, fun.) The weekend rotation is Reed/Littrell/Grundy. Cousino will be the CF and leadoff. Riddle and Reida up the middle infield. Witt and Zellers typically at the corner OF spots. It's too early to say on 3B, 1B, C and the bullpen (outside of Gott as closer and Wijas as a key piece) because they'll try some guys early and go with the hot hand.

A.J. didn't pitch today, he pitched Friday. Grundy pitched today. Littrell will go tomorrow in Saturday's make up game.

NM Matt..I got the roster from the UK Ath. site. Thanks though!! +1 for hustle..now..if we can just get our Bball team to hustle we would be ok!

I know. I like watching the "Other" sports. Womens Volleyball is a fav of mine. LoL. Cute girls in short shorts jumping and diving around. I mean..whats not to Like?
Cousino is a beast. Nice to have homerun pop in your leadoff guys bat..great baserunner and stealer..great glove in CF. Smooth. Witt's a nice player too. And our pitching has been graet under Henderson. Lots of UK throwers in the minors right now. More and more in the Biggs too.

Update from UK about this weekend's game:
In anticipation of weather hitting the Myrtle Beach, S.C., area, No. 8 Kentucky has altered its travel schedule and will now face Kansas State on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET, Elon on Friday at 12 p.m. ET and Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET at Pelicans Park.
