Kentucky falls to 8th in AP Poll

  • Kentucky falls to 8th in Associated Press poll after losing to Duke. The Blue Devils rise to No. 5.

I don't know, seems a bit too steep a drop but rankings don't mean much, especially in mid-November.

  • Steep drop, but probably where we should've been to start with. Might take some pressure off this early.

  • Our preseason ranking was based solely off of where people expect us to be at the end of the year. We honestly probably shouldn't be in the top 10 to start the season. Like you said, it's November. If we get by Baylor at home, we have one more (probable) loss at Louisville. That means we enter SEC play with 2 losses. I expect 4-5 losses in SEC play. Then hopefully we can make a run like Knight and Co.

I agree that UK probably wasnt a top 10 team to begin the year but I think we go into the SEC schedule with 3 losses including: Duke,ND and UL. Cal will keep his home winning streak alive until the SEC schedule starts and will have 2 to 3 losses at home.

  • I highly doubt they drop 2-3 games at home during conference play. The home streak will eventually end, but I don't see the losing that many at home.

This team will finish the regular season at 26-5, 25-6, or at worst 24-7.

  • I think 3 was too high to begin with. 8th is about right for now. In all honesty just judging on how they are playing right here and now I'd have em somewhere between 15 and 20.

I would have to agree and the 15 to 20 ranking is about where I would also have them right now.

  • Meh. They get the benefit of the doubt because people know they improve every time they hit the floor due to their youth. Probably aren't playing to their ranking right this minute but might tomorrow and definitely will if when we get Harrow back and up to speed in the offense.

  • The polls are subjective beauty contests. Kentucky has posted the second best efficiency through the first 3 games in the country. That is a fact.

Not to shabby for a team that returns no starters huh. But Cal can't coach. lol.

  • Not only those points, but a team that has the most upside of any team out there.

Just imagine if Cal could only coach.

  • Not sure why anybody thinks this team isn't a top ten team right now? We lost a game to a top five team by seven points and we played one of our worst games of the year and lost by 7. UK is going to be a top five team most of this year and we may not lose as many games as some may think. The Louisville game may not be a for sure loss and I really think UK will show up against Notre Dame and the last time we played there we did win. Our cats need a point guard whether its Harrow or Polson or even Archie even though I think we need him more at the two no matter what happens with Ryan. But our boys are getting better every practice and they are starting to show it on the court, once the season is in full stride our cats will excel and coach Cal will once again make another run at the FF. I also can't see UK losing 5 SEC games, Vandy down, UT may give us a game, but the teams I worry about is Mizz, and A@M both of them should give us a few problems and the only team that I'm super worried about is Florida. Florida is the only team in the SEC that I would even considered to be a threat. This team will probably lose three SEC games and we will only lose five games total and if that happens we will once again be a number one seed come March. This team is alot better than most are giving them credit for and when we play Notre Dame I think that game makes a statement for our cats and they will begin their run at another FF.

I'm happy we have Missouri at home this year, if we had them at their place, we may have another loss on our hands. I like what Pomeroy has and think this may be our record. I believe we may be ready by the time we reach Louisville, but it will be a good game none-the-less. Go blue, and go Cats.

I agree about the upside. But the polls aren't based on how a team will finish. Just on how they are playing from week to week. I really don't know what Pomeroy or anyone could be going on, especially preseason, considering only one player on the roster had ever seen the court before this year. I bet Cal would agree with me that UK at this point is not the #3 team in the country.

I dont think too many feel that this team wont be a top team later on and thats what I believe that they in fact will be a very tough team to beat by mid Jan. or so that is if we solve the PG problem. Anyone see that Mays had 10 assists this past game, I wonder???????.

Even if he believed that his team was a top 3 team right now, do you really believe he would say so on the record?

And, name any other teams that have played better basketball to start this season than UK?

I know that list is a very short one.

Professor the 17-1 SEC prediction is a little off IMO. I believe KY will finish 14-4 with lossws to Tenn,Missiouri, Fla. and Georgia(thats right Georgia). Now IM basing this on the assumption that KYs PG situation doesnt clear up completely. I fthat situation does turn very positive then I would have to consider changing my prediction. --The only spot that is a potential weak point in the KY teams is of course the PG spot. Professor in the forcast you presented it shows KY beating ND at their place I have to disagree with that whole heartedly. ND is a darn good team and they shoot the 3 very well and rebounds even better and KY has a small problem guarding the 3 and their rebounding is improving but still is lacking. Then the chart shows KY beating Missouri but Missouri is going to be very good by the the time they play but in all fairness KY also will be a very very good team by then also, and this game I think will come down to which teams PG plays the best. Tenn will beat KY down there also and then the Fla away game is a loss. 14-4

Heres some more FACTS: Pts per game-54th Rebounds per game-253rd Assists per game-60th FG% 14th. The field goal % is really good but the other per game %s are less than stellar. Now I know that Im statiscally challeged but those stats arent the stats of a top ten team. But I have overwhelming faith that by the time mid Jan. comes around that UK will be a top 5 team and will be fighting for a #1 seed but right now they arent a top 10 team.
