Kentucky or Auburn?

  • If you're a coach whose been offered a sweet deal from both universities, who would you choose?

If we are in a bid war with Auburn for the same coach, can Mitch close the deal?

  • If Mitch devotes about 1 million more to recruiting, yes.

    JCHS02

  • Is this a serious question?

The only way UK wins that contest is if the coach in question has strong UK ties (is there such a coach out there that UK would want?) or if the coach does not want to face Bama and LSU every year along with the expectations of that fan base. If he shies away from those things should UK really want him anyway?

  • You can't be serious with this question, can you?

Only if you can give a serious answer

  • Unless they received an epic scandal with several years penalties it's the exact opposite answer than which would you want if you were a basketball coach. The ability to recruit, facilities, and program tradition would have a big impact on which way a coach would lean.

    BenSam

  • Look at program tradition (Auburn wins that argument) and talent you would inherit on the rosters (Auburn has 3 or 4 consecutive top 10 classes) and you take Auburn every day of the week. It is a no-brainer. UK football is not a job desired by many head coaches unless they are simply desparate to become an SEC coach and no other programs in our conference offer them the HC job.

    mjdotson

  • The last 4 recruiting classes, i.e. the players a new coach would inherit (per Rivals class rank each year):

    AUBURN
    2009 - #19
    2010 - #4
    2011 - #7
    2012 - #10

    UK
    2009 - #41
    2010 - #50
    2011 - #61
    2012 - #62

    Isn't the choice obvious?

    mjdotson

  • This is a joke right? No top shelf coach would consider UK if Auburn was available. UK is going to have to find an up and coming coordinator,

    FootballFan1st

  • I guess the real question is... what would it take to convince a coach to choose Kentucky over Auburn? Money?

I'm not even sure if money would be the deciding factor... there's so many other things to consider.

It just sucks to be in this situation.

  • Look at it another way....win a national championship at Auburn and three years later there's a pink slip with your name on it. Win one at Kentucky and there'll be a stadium with your name on it

    djkycat54906

  • UK doesn't have enough money to draw a coach away from Auburn. Fort Knox doesn't have enough gold bars.

If there is a coach who gets contract offers from both, regardless of the money, and he picks UK over Auburn we should fire him the next day for being an idiot.

If Auburn got put on probation tomorrow for three years and the coach picked UK over Auburn he should have his head examined.

shepp2700, summed it up... 0% a coach would pick UK over Auburn.

    jamccain

  • The only way a coach picks us over Auburn is if he played here or had some deep bond with the state. I'd like to see a list of the league schools ranked for desireability. Football only, but all the major sports would need be considered when enticing both players and coaches. I'm sure ESPN or SI have it. We'd probably rank ahead of only Vandy and Mississippi State, possibly Ole Miss. No way we compete head to head with Auburn in football for a coach IMO.

  • The expectations here are a lot less than at Auburn. So, what do you think? Win 7-8 games a year here and people will be dancing in the streets.

That's part of it, but you can also say that Auburn's expectations are unreasonable. What they really want is to be better than Alabama and I don't see that happening over any prolonged period (and certainly not while Saban's there).

Let's say UK's goal is to field a competitive team where we can contend for an East title once every 4-5 years--it's a much more reasonable goal to attain. What we would want is possible. What Auburn fans truly want is a pipe dream.

24/7 has Auburn with a top 3 class to work with UK' s isn't top 50 ! Look at kid who has offer Tucker his list is Arkansas St. WKU & MTSU! Kid from Memphis without University of Memphis offer? Yea come and coach these kids at UK? Or go work with top tier talent in country !

Kiss if Tucker didn't have grade issues he'd have a lot more BCS offers.

This is the kind of mindset we need to get rid of as UK fans. People need to know that UK can compete with the big boys in the SEC. With our own fans posting crap like this how's that going to happen? Set your expectations higher for the football program guys!

  • It would be about like Depaul getting a basketball coach over Syracuse. Lol. It's Aburn hands down. They are right smack dab in the middle of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the US and they live, eat, breath, and make love to football in that area. The only thing we'd have going for us is Nick Saban. Haha.

Whit I want you to answer this question without looking. How many of the 19 committs this year Alabama have are from there. Just take a guess? Thanks!

    footballcat65

  • Right smack dab in the middle of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country means Florida, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Bama, Missippi, et al but of course they can recruit from any where they want. We're talking Auburn though not Bama.

Thats the whole problem here at UK the expectations. If everyone expects UK to win 6 or 7 games a year and go to a low level bowl then thats what you will get. I dont think Auburns expectations of beating Ala.+LSU every year is excessive. We should have the same ambition but until the AD and the rest of the administration puts up or shuts up when it comes to the quality of the facilities and the coaching staff then we will aspire to win enough games to go to a bottom of the rung bowl game. KY cant compete in the SEC until expectations are raised.

We could, but we don't ..... by choice. The fan's expectations aren't the problem.

Wow now that makes the Tucker offer even worse ! And if this kid was real deal Miss St or even a C-USA team offers ! If UK is going to compete they need to go and compete on the recruiting trail. For instance Brady Hoke at Michigan wasn't a big name but he's pulling in top 5 classes! Jim Tressel wasn't big name! Yes they are at big programs but look at what WVU has done! UK is in big boy conference go get some big boys because the guys you got now aren't talented enough to compete and are getting hurt and dropping like flies
