**Kickoff Luncheon Notes (Fri., July 27)**

  • Just arrived st the kickoff luncheon. Will have more as I can post it from my phone and later when this wraps up, but one thing Joker did address reporters about the the significant drop in season ticket sales, basically saying that they've got plenty of people who are with them and will continue to sell players on the fans who show up and stand behind them.

  • Glad he addressed it, even though it should not have been all over the paper to begin with, but still good to get it out of the way.

  • President Capilouto:

"(Phillips) runs a strong program.... We stand behind him."

  • Renewed my tickets. These fans that decided not to support their program out of spite are not what I consider "fans" at all. I hope they enjoy their Saturdays at the Home Depot.

  • Joker says he was taking recruit to airport after Tennessee game and came back through baggage claim, where an elderly lady recognizes him and calls him
Tubby Smith. Introduces his coordinators and says they have to help him win games so "people won't keep calling him Gary Coleman next year"

  • Randy Sanders, always a hit at these things, says he's "been at church every week praying for lots of touchdowns"

  • Sanders: "I'm not going to get into the QB thing. I'll let Coach Phillips handle that."

-- says they'll be really young overall and have "about 20 who can dress themselves"

--sanders says "there are a lot of liars in this state who came up to Joker and said "coach, I don't care what you do just beat Tennessee"

--sanders jokes "hope I'll be back here next year. I've got a daughter starting at uk and I need that 50 percent off tuition"

  • Randy Sanders a comedic hit as always at the Kickoff Luncheon. The guy flat kills it in these settings.

I like that, couldn't agree more. Year three about consistency (focus/effort), then year four is RESULTS....

Out of Spite? Or would it be called investing into something that is just not that good right now? It drives me nuts when I see these type of comments. We are not the Chicago Cubs, where you pay to go to the game just because...Its why the Cubs still suck, why does ownership have to be good when their dumb ass fans keep on coming back? The only thing fans have going for them is not show up and pay the money. This is a call to the President and AD at UK that if your team doesn't get it done on the field, us fans ain't going to show up...Give me a break with your saturdays at Home Depot crap...If people don't want to spend 2k to watch a bad product, it doesn't mean they are bad fans....it means they are smart with their money

This should be a separate thread. Not questioning your opinion at all, but this is just luncheon notes, and any posts on the kickoff luncheon thread should just be about the excitement of the upcoming season and a peek at the comments of the coaching staff. If someone does not share the excitement, on this kind of thread, you should just read it and move on. Just my opinion, I certainly am not trying to preach lol...

Your probably right, my bad, just hate not being called a fan cause a person decides not spend 2 grand on something that right now, isn't that good of a product. It ain't like the fans won't stat buying tickets again if UK football starts producing. as we can see by sales, nobody is exactly waiting in line

Completely understand.. Let's just hope it's a great season and this is an afterthought!

This is the exact definition of a fair weather fan. So yes, technically you are still a fan.

I don't want to start a big debate. We just have a different opinion on what supporting a team is. This is not professional sports. It's kids in jerseys representing our state college, a lot of which are from Kentucky. I choose to support anyone wearing that jersey and anyone coaching these kids.

I trust Mitch Barnhart will make the best decision regarding all sports. I refuse to believe that if I stop buying my ticket, Mitch will suddenly say "We need to make a change". Not to mention the fact that, I love going to the games. I would hate to have missed the Tennessee game last year, just because we weren't having a great year.

    Go Big Blue!!!!

I think we all did to some extent but UK has to be better just by default. I can't wait until practice starts.
