  • I love the passion and the idea. I think that there will be 20k+ in the stands and hopefully 45K+ since they are actually going to market the spring game and it doesn't conflict with Thunder Over Louisville this year.

I'll up vote you after you edit and put some spaces in the OP.

grammer, sentence structure, puncutuation, spelling, capitalization, verb tense, etc all correct. Edit because it is too long - I don't think so. Don't read it if you don't have time. Its all true. I have to drive 3 1/2 hours one way to attend spring game. If those within an hour of Commonwealth aren't willing to make the effort to make it to the spring game, then quit complaining about losing games. I can't believe anyone would dv this. Obviously not a UK football fan or one of those basketball only guys. If UK is playing tiddly winks I want to be the best tiddly winks team. GO CATS!!!!!!!

cobbycobb is not complaining about the "grammer, sentence structure, puncutuation, spelling, capitalization, verb tense, etc".

it is in the structure of the body of the work. It is one paragraph that, when transferred to Word, takes over an entire page. Unbroken blocks of words such as that do not lend themselves to easy reading. That aspect is even more pronounced when viewed in the format of a forum post on a widescreen monitor rather than fitted onto a page such as when viewing from Microsoft Word or some other program or on paper.

    Spacing is important for readability.

I don't understand and am not a tech wizard by any means, but it does not show up that way on my screen. Are you saying if I do a hard return after a couple of sentences that this would fix the problem for those that are viewing in Word? I thought Word was a program for preparing documents, writing letters, etc. I am just confused. I have no idea what I could do to fix the post to make it viewable by everyone. Sorry.

Basically, yes to having a few scattered hard returns and extra spaces in order to make things more readable.

With regard to some of my post, I seem to have come across poorly.

Re: viewing the post in Microsoft Word
I don't typically read in Word, I was performing a check on the post.

As written, the post looks like a big block of letters. I thought it looked very long for a single paragraph, so I copied it and then pasted it into Word to get an idea of how long the paragraph is when compared to other written works. There it is in Arial type script with font size 12.5 and takes up over an entire page. If switched to Calibri style and font size 11 (the default for Word) it still takes nearly an entire page. That is a very large block of words for a single paragraph.

Re: the length and structure in general
Something else to consider is that, when viewed on wide screen monitors, the length of each line makes it difficult to focus on the line and read. Shorter lines, like those found when viewing on narrower screens (or one Word), allow one to look at sections of text in chunks that are easier to take in for many people. Longer sentences, spread out over very long lines, are also more difficult for many people to read. In general, it bothers their eyes to read such things. At least that is how it seems to me.

  • Let's just say...point taken. We all as UK Football fans need to be there on April 13th. Whether it's a long story or a short one.

My case, I'm bringing my sons ages 15 and 19. Two good friends of mine also will be in our van, so we have a party of five! I've also been telling everyone I know that is a UK fan to join "Stoopstroops".

I don't have stock in the "t-shirt" company, but the ones that I've seen in BLUE.....with WHITE lettering saying "STOOPSTROOPS" ....we'll all be wearing them. Wouldn't it be great with a Sea of Blue.....occupying Commonwealth Stadium.

Come early and stay late.....let's tailgate!

Thanks for the pointers romp. I didn't realize that this made it difficult to read for some with certain settings on their screens.

I will try to post with shorter sentences and do a couple hard returns after a few sentences.

    GO CATS!!!

  • Nothing wrong with a ling post, but break it up into multiple short paragraphs when possible. More people will read it that way.

As for the subject of this thread, SPOT ON! The wife and I are driving up from AL and I know another couple from here in AL who are doing the same. Several others from out of state, including warmother who used to post on here, are doing the same.

Zac, in summary I was complementing the BBN on the fact that most recruits are mentioning the fans as a major reason to attend UK. Recruits want to know that the fans will be here if they come here. They can sense the excitement among the fans.

Also, if we want to have a chance to seriously compete in the SEC, we must get better recruits because players can only be "coached up" so much.

There will be lots of high star recruits attending the spring game. If we can pack Commonwealth, with our staff and their recruiting ability, we will have a much better chance of landing some of these recruits.

We have very few opportunities at UK to have this much attention on us for football. If we don't show up for the spring game we have no one to blame but ourselves if we don't get better recruits. I know our staff will get the job done and it will make it more likely that they will be able to convince the better recruits to sign if there are fans in the stands showing their support.

Recruits always want to be needed and need to be wanted. The staff can play the "ability to come in and play early and make a difference" card if we give them the chance to show the recruits how passionate we the fans are and how badly we want to have a successful football program.

If we don't show up for the spring game we don't have the right to complain about losing, or the product that is on the field. If we want to play major college / SEC football, we have to act like an SEC fanbase. SEC schools show up for the spring games. Make plans now to attend to avoid scheduling issues.

    GO CATS!!!

Is this better or easier to read with everyone's respective systems for reading posts? Let me know.

  • I don't care if he wrote the whole thing in one sentence. If he shows up for the spring game then he is a friend of mine. I'm there just like every other year.

    bigbluerules

  • Nearly everyone i've talked to about it is going. I think UK definitely knows that it's time to market the mess out of this thing, and will do so. I honestly expect a pretty ridiculous turnout. I am incredibly excited about it. Spring practice, too. Can't wait to hear when the start is.

  • I will be there with several others. But I would be there anyway. Hopefully, a day will be made of it and the 'event' will be a big draw to get folks out.

I will be interested in seeing how they market the Spring game since it was very lightly marketed in the past to say the least. Also I'm not sure that the thrill and excitement of how the staff finished off this recruiting class has actually blead down to the average Joe Fan that isn't on the boards several times a day like we are. I think there are a lot of "show me" types. IOW they are going to have to see something exciting on the field of play before the recommit themselves.

To use an economic analogy, what we have experienced in the fan base the last couple of years is the equivalent of an economic depression. Yes we have new leadership with great resumes, but I think it may take a little time to recover. I would love to see 40K there in April, which would be more than several regular season games last season, but I'm not holding my breath. 20K, which is about what we had at the Vandy game last year, would be about twice what we have ever gotten in the past at a Spring game and I would be pretty damn happy about that.

  • I agree Deee. I don't think it is reasonable to expect 67000 for the spring game, esp. not this year. But it is not unreasonable to expect at least 20K. I live 3 1/2 hours away and am already planning to make the trip. The only thing keeping me away is illness or extremely bad weather. And I've already gotten on board with season tickets for the 1st time as well.

  • Another issue is the fact that it's a night event means most people that have to drive a good distance will have to spend the night, whereas when they had them in the afternoon before you could make the round trip in a day without much of an issue. OTOH having it at night keeps it from conflicting with Keenland I assume?
