LETS PACK COMMONWEALTH FOR THE SPRING GAME!!!

  • Deeeefense said...

Another issue is the fact that it's a night event means most people that have to drive a good distance will have to spend the night, whereas when they had them in the afternoon before you could make the round trip in a day without much of an issue. OTOH having it at night keeps it from conflicting with Keenland I assume?

There is a home softball game vs Florida at 1300 and a home baseball game vs Tennessee at 1400. I believe they decided to not have the spring game conflict with both of those home sporting events. It also appears that there are several major races for that day at Keeneland, moreso than other Saturdays.

Evening probably seemed the best choice for that weekend

Yup, the Blue Grass Stakes - major Derby prep race, biggest day of the year at Keeneland. 30,000+ there if the weather is good. Horses all look the same to me so we're going to tailgate and attend the football game Saturday, go to Keeneland on Sunday.

Any reason can be used not to attend. What I am saying is recruits care about the fans. Even more than I thought before twitter and other forms of social media shed light on how much they do care.

As I said before, recruits want to be needed and need to be wanted. IMO, the most important part in developing a footballprogram is the Jimmy's and Joe's. Obviously coaching matters, but there is only so much a coach can do. The entire coaching staf'fs of all of the top 25 teams could not turn me into a college football player.

If we want to be relevant in SEC football we need to do all we can to help the staff build a solid program. This starts with recruiting. Obviously, legitimate things can happen outside of anyone's control to keep you from attending the game.

The main point I was trying to make was to plan in advance to make it to the spring game and make it a priority. There will be lots of recruits at the spring game. Probably triple or more the number of recruits that have ever attended a UK spring game. Having a packed house will help the staff to seal the deal by showing recruits we do care about football.

If we truly care about having a relevant SEC football team, we need to make it a point to be there. If we can't do this we have no right to complain about a "bad" team with subpar talent. The BBN is packed with great fans. It's time to come together to try to turn the program around. These chances don't come around very often for UK football.

    See ya there! GO CATS!!!

This. When Nick Saban was hired at Bama, he talked in his introduction press conference about how everything is a process and how the fans are just as much a part of the overall "team" as the players, just like everyone all the way down to the secretaries in the AD are a part of the "team" and that everyone on the "team" has their part to play in order for the team to succeed at a high level. The fans' role on the "team" is to show up, come hell or high water, and to help publicly promote the program to sell it as something elite recruits want to be a part of. A few months later they had over 100,000 fans in the stadium at their Spring game, with thousands more outside the stadium just to be there for the event.

Obviously, that is Bama football which can be compared to UK basketball in terms of history, fan support, etc., but there is no reason CWS can't and shouldn't be AT LEAST 50% full at the Spring game every year, but especially this year with the added excitement surrounding the program. If there isn't at least 35,000 fans at the Spring game this year, then the fans as a whole have failed to do their part to adequately support this new staff from the start. That may sound harsh, but it is how I feel. SHOW THE F*CK UP, PEOPLE, and spread the word to everyone you know to do the same.

Absolutely agree!!!!!!!! This could be our last chance to help make KY football into a legitimate contender for a very long time. IMO, this could possibly turn out to be the most important day in KY football history, because the 2014 recruiting class will be the foundation on which the UK football program will be built.

We will either look back and say we packed the house which helped the staff sign a top 10 class, or we can have poor attendence and be embarrased because all of the top level recruits that will be attending the spring game will believe we don't care about football at UK. Let's help play our part in helping to turn the UK football program around.

    GO CATS!!!

Wow! Thanks for the link. 4,500 last year. By far the lowest of any SEC team and this was an increase from the prior year. Vandy was the next lowest with 8,500. Even Vandy almost doubled us.

IMO, we will have failed as a fan base if we do not have, at a minimum, 35,000 fans (hopefully many more) to attend the spring game.

  • Kind of skipped through the novels, so sorry if my question was answered in one of them....when and where do tickets go on sale for the spring game?

Tickets are not issued. It is simply walk up and go into the stadium. There will likely be ushers checking for prohibited items, but other than that just walk right in. It is festival seating, so first come first serve picking seats. No cost whatsoever.

If its free and if we can get the word out to the fans about how important it is to be at the game, especially for recruiting purposes, I believe our fans will respond.

We need some promos on TV and radio stations with Mark Stoops and certain players asking the fans to attend because of the importance of having a large attendance to show all of the recruits that are in attendance that we support football and we want them to choose UK to further their football career. Something like the ad that ran during the Super Bowl would be great. I hope we have some creative promo things in the works for the spring game. GO CATS!!!

  • I want to stress how important it is for Kentucky fans to show up for the Spring Game and show support to keep momentum going. Over half of the recruits I talk to plan on being at that game.

I heard that they are going to "promote" the spring game this year which would be a first.

I have no idea what that means, that is if they intend to use the media as you are suggesting or other means, but it is a fact that UK has done a very poor job in the past of planning and marketing the spring game. They could bring in outside entertainment, have an old timers games (like Bama does), make it a real family event that would be fun to come to.

BTW for those that have never been to a spring game they are very informal, you can sit anywhere you want, and after the game they usually let people go down onto the field and chat with the players and coaches. One year I saw a couple of players just hanging out, outside Nutter and were chatting with anyone that walked by. It's kind of cool to get up close and personal with the team in this fashion. In short, don't just come becasue you feel an obligation, come becasue you will enjoy yourself.

Josh, how many of these recruits mention the importance of fan support and going to a school where they feel they are truly wanted as being extremely important in their decision on which school to attend?

About all of the updates on recruits that I have read whether on this site, twitter, etc, have mentioned the fans as being a major factor in their decision as to which school they plan to attend. GO CATS!!!

  • You are correct Josh, got a group of guys that have missed the past couple years coming up to tailgate and go. Really looking forward to it and looking forward to 25-35k in attendance.
