Mike Brey is about as solid as you can get as a coach. He learned at the feet of two of the greatest basketball minds of all time. His gameplan was excellent, his team executed it and he made all the right adjustments. That's what coaching is. Personally, I don't think they're that good but that's also a credit to Brey that he had his team ready to play and ready to perform.

I don't have a problem with losing to Notre Dame. I have a problem in the way the game was lost and the performance of the team and coaches.

I expected a loss to Notre dame because of the atmosphere and our youth. His gameplay was excellent and I think drews today was executed well also.

Key word "PG". Goodwin is not a pg, harrow is our pg. He got sick, and went home for awhile...Do you expect his job to just be waiting on him when he gets back? Like Chris has said, polson can't play 25-30 mins against good teams and Goodwin has had to adjust. He's a score first shooting guard or small forward but he's been forced to play point. Harrow will get his spot back and he showed some flashes of how that'll be once his confidence rises. Goodwin will go back to his position and we'll show improvement.

Cal got Goodwin as a SG and as a backup PG in case Harrow didn't work out. He knew the chances he was taking. He didn't get a PG in this class. It's as simple as that. He wiffed on a PG. Yeah I said it. And I'm right. And if you think Harrow was physically sick I got a bridge to sell ya. Goodwin is more flashy and is a better athlete but at least Polson will pass the basketball.

No I haven't. A few things. I'm not sure of that sample size. Are those all through the first 7 games? Also Goodwin has only been the PG a few games. If he had started the season at PG his TO's would be a lot higher. And the TO's aren't what I'm really complaining about. I expect them in a frosh PG. What's concerning me is the lack of shot selection and passing. Shoot first PG's need to hit the door.

    More facts for you.

FGAs through their first 7 games:

    Wall: 73

    Knight: 97

    Goodwin: 73

And I would argue that Harrow is the same player people have always said he was: Soft mentally and physically and his game does not transfer to "real" basketball. Especially not as a high-level starting D-1 PG.

Knowing all that Calipari brought him in has his "reclamation" project and it obviously is not working out. That isn't to say it won't improve or some light will click on for him but right now, at this moment, he is what they say he is.

Already writing off Harrow and this team after seven games. You are a clown.

Here's a fact. 2 losses in a row to mediocre teams. One of those losses at home.

And here is another fact or two. Cal won a championship last year and has been to a FF and Elite 8 to boot. Additionally, this is his youngest team yet and young teams tend to struggle early in the year. All's I'm saying is can we ratchet down the hyperbole just a tad bit?

Got it! Polson over harrow, wiltjer, and even cauley-stein.... I think that pretty much ends this thread for me:)

Polson over Harrow and Goodwin until either Harrow "gets it" or at least becomes servicable. I think Polson is at least serviceable at this point.

I'm saying this right now: If Calipari insists on doing this with Goodwin it's not going to work and it's going to hurt him in the long run.

Let the kid do what he does best: Put the ball in the basket.

I never wrote off Harrow. Harrow at PG is our best chance by far. And I didn't write the team off after 7 games. I said a few times this team could pull together a March run. I just said I'm not convinced it will like I was with the previous teams. I think not accepting this team is awful right now after 2 terrible losses and no fight makes you a much bigger sunshiny clown than me. And nice example you're setting.

Yeah. I know. And I'm happy with Cal. I'm not happy with how this team is playing and I'm not happy with Goodwin. I don't think saying this team is terrible right now is hyperbole. It's fact.

  • If anybody thinks Polson is a better option than Ryan Harrow at the point they must really want us to lose a ton of games this year. Harrow played decent while he was in the game and he looked like a point guard today. Plus he can play defense something Polson can't do very well and Kyle Wiltjer needs to take a seat on the bench as well. His lack of defense is killing this young team he doesn't rotate fast enough and Nerlens, Proythress, Cauley Stein are always getting fouls because of his poor defense. I know Wiltjer does some things well but they are on the offensive end of the floor and today he just couldn't buy one and when he's shooting that way he's no use to us. I do believe that Calipari will start pressing trying to up the pace and get this team out in the open floor and when they do this team will excel. We have a ton of athletism and we can't use it because they can't get turnovers and stops on the defensive end and its killed us and will continue to kill us until something changes. I think Kyle needs to come off the bench for this team because of his lack of defense and he will if we go to a pressing team like coach Calipari stated on the post game show. I think he will press and start playing eight maybe nine guy's letting Hood, Polson, Harrow get more playing time. We have a ton of talent and by no means will coach Cal continue to lose because of lack of effort and lack of competing and if he has to bench guy's to get his message across I believe that he will and our next game I hope he starts guy's that can play defense and let our defense start our offense. And if guy's don't want to hustle and play hard all the time I hope he sits their tails on the bench and leaves them there especially Goodwin and Kyle.

I agree with all that 100%. But when you talk of benching it needs to be a real benching with teeth. Like sit an entire game. He gets mad, yanks a guy, he sits 2 minutes, goes right back in. Hell they probably appreciate the breather. When a player just lags up the court or doesn't play hard defense yank him and make him stay on the bench the whole game.

Guys would stay out longer if other guys were playing better lol. But, I like the following lineup..

    Harrow
    Goodwin
    Poythress
    Noel
    Stein

Bring Mays and Wiltjer in off the bench... Just a thought, it doesn't always matter who starts....

At this point it doesn't matter. Nothing to lose. We've already lost. Lost at home so that streak doesn't have to be defended. The hardcore benchings should be a last resort but that time is quickly approaching.

And on top of all that, besides all the facts that I've already destroyed your argument with, your PG argument is already flawed.

To you, sheer unselfishness makes a good point guard. The willingness to pass. The fact remains that Goodwin is the best playmaker on UK's team. That's largely what makes a good point guard, the ability to make plays for yourself and others.

Now sure, he needs to shoot less, turn it over less and make better decisions, I get that and agree with that. But to say Polson is a better point guard than Goodwin is laughable.

Now I still think this team is at its best when Goodwin is off the ball and Harrow is running the point. But until Harrow proves he's ready to go full time, Goodwin is UK's next best option.

You haven't destroyed anything. It's not so much unselfishness as it is complete ball hogging selfishness that irks me about Goodwin. I agree that a PG is supposed to make plays for himself and others. However Goodwin never makes play for others and a lot of his own playmaking is just driving and throwing crap up over his head backwards as he's falling down. I never said Polson was a better PG than Goodwin. I said at least Polson passes the ball. So you basically agree with 95% of the things I've said yet you've destroyed my argument. We're 4-3 man!!! Stop getting mad that people aren't happy about it.
