***LIVE UPDATES/GAME THREAD: UK at NOTRE DAME***

  • Mays with back to back triples. He's 4 of 6 on the night for 16 points.

  • anyone else notice Poythress plays defense, if you can call it that, with his hands at his ankles?

    mr289

  • Lowest point total was 55 against UConn in Final Four. That is getting threatened, but they might squeeze past it.

  • Bad night for players and staff. We have to have more involvement on offense for Poythress going forward, all we've looked to do tonight was post up Noel and run Mayes off screens. This was miserable to watch but it's part of the deal, young teams are going to get kicked in the teeth sometimes. At least they'll have some idea of what to expect when we hit the road for conference play and won't be blindsided by hostile environment.

  • this has got to be one of, if not the worst, rebounding team we have ever had. Especially to be as tall as we are.

  • FINAL: Notre Dame 64,Kentucky 50; Cats fall to 4-2 on season and post lowest point total in the John Calipari era.

  • I think we have to face reality and this team is going to take some serious lumps this year. They are going to get beat on the road several times in the S EC and they probably will lose around 8 to 10 before it's all said and done.

  • Why rush the court lol.

  • another classless court storming. Act like you've beaten a team before.

    mr289

  • Yeah the court storming thing is getting kind of old you would think they had never beat a team at home in their lives. This ain't the Kentucky team from last year!

    ukaveman

  • The easy way to stop court storming is to show up and beat them on their court. If you lie down, don't be surprised to be stepped on. I wish our Cats had the spirit that the Irish and students do.

I kind of agree, I get ND rushing the court. Beating UK is a big deal once again in college basketball, and they did it convincingly.

You are right about the Cats losing in the SEC a few times especially on the road. In my thread that I put up about 2 weeks ago on what the teams regular season and SEC records would be and I went out on a limb and said that this team would lose 7 games total in the regular season and if memory serves I said they would lose 4 games in the SEC. but Im not giving up on this team and still think they will get much better by the middle of Jan. • This is the worst UK team Calipari's had since coming to UK. Goodwin needs to play the two and May's needs to come off the bench to give us some bench points, WCS isn't half as good as many of us thought. Noel has to get stronger with the ball and he has to stop giving up on plays and maybe he should stop trying to block everything and worry about getting rebounds. I think Calipari needs to tell these boy's that this ain't high school and you actually have to bring it day in and day out in practice and in games. Goodwin and Alex both played like freshman tonight and we can't afford for them to play so weak. If we don't start improving its going to be a long year and if we can't out rebound teams or at least keep it close on the boards then this team won't make it out of the second round of the NCAA. I know its still early but this team just doesn't seem to be improving much and Harrow has to play more and get his head under control because he's way too important to the team and he has to play point guard. We need him to be a player and he has the talent to do so he just needs to stop feeling sorry for himself and put in the work. I think Gilly and Knight need to come back and talk to these young players and let them know that hard work is what wins championships and going to FF's the way they are playing is just unacceptable everywhere not just at UK. I love coach Calipari but playing Archie at the point is not the right move for this team or for Archie he needs to move without the ball more and he could help out on the boards, playing him at the point he is having to retreat alot and he's too talented to not be getting four or five boards a game and at this point we need all the boards we can handle.

Damn...I think we should have Barnhart FIRE THE COACH!!! Glad to know someone can step in and fill his shoes....censored

  • I'm not saying Calipari has a problem coaching I just think anyone who watched that game saw that Archie and Alex played like freshman and Archie struggled because he's not a point guard. You need to actually read there bbcatfan because this is one of his worst teams he's had maybe the worst team and they show it on the court. I just hate when people act like when we say things that don't praise Calipari you take things the wrong way. But none of the fans on here are anymore of a UK fan than me I bleed blue pal and just because I think Calipari needs to make some ajustments doesn't mean I think he needs to be gone. Man you have no clue what you are talking about making comments that most people who know's anything about basketball can see with their own eye's and don't be surprised if some of the things I've said actually happen. Calipari ain't blind and I bet you tomorrow's practice and film session he will point some of the same things out to the boy's. Grow up man and realize that some of us fans aren't going to act like we are this awesome team because frankly we are not...

    wildcatfan440

  • Wow, 440, did I hit a nerve??? Sorry!!! But, I'm figuring Cal has already said most of what you preached and then some!!! Plus, Almost everyone has understood from day one that this team is going to take a few lumps. But, I think it's a bit early to label them as "the worst" he's had!!! Of course, that's my opinion. And by the way... I'm a grown man and I have a clue...

Plus, I know what sarcasm is. You might look that word up.

  • Well tell me which of the other teams would you say was worse? The Knight team at least competed everytime they hit the floor and this team doesn't compete. Plus this is the youngest team he's had ever and even though I agree that he's probably said more than what I did what I said was not untrue. But the last few games anyone can see that Archie has no buisness playing the point at least not for long stretches because he needs to be able to move without the ball. Again just because this is the worst team he's had doesn't mean we won't win our share of games but lets not make not mistake about it this is our worst team at least until they can start competing game in and game out. Hey I think we both love UK basketball and both of us want this team to be successful but every coach has one of those teams that just doesn't perform for whatever reason's I think this might very well be one of those teams.

In this team's defense, they dropped an egg against ND tonight, but so did Knight's team against Uconn. They got MAN HANDLED, showed no spirit, and no effort. These games happen, and I think this years team will be better than Knight's.

    UKDUDE2

  • Are we really going to compare this ND team to UCONN who went on to win the national title that year? Come on guy's this years team has yet to compete game in and game out and the Knight team didn't have a problem competing they just couldn't seem to be able to win on the road or hit big shots down the stretch but they competed every game. Again I hope this team finally takes off but I can't see us doing anything until Harrow takes over the pg position and Calipari can move Archie to the two and then have our boys make a committment on the defensive end. Plus this team doesn't have a Miller or Liggins, Jones, or Lamb and we don't have a BK, Wall, Teague type point guard and it is really hurting this team. I mean I love UK and I want us to win every game but if this team doesn't start playing defense the way Calipari teams usually play then we are in for his worst season since he came here. Everyone thinks that saying this team isn't as good as the other teams is a bad thing its not its just the truth. I think most people who have watched enough basketball can watch this team and see the same thing we are not competing its not that hard to see.

If I'm correct Uconn was unranked at the time, and still went on to lose 9 games. Anything is possible and the Uconn game is a perfect comparison. In the Uconn game they showed no heart, and Uconn was just making everything. And like the Uconn game, one player showed heart, Terrence Jones in that game, and Julius Mays in this game. Don't compare based on eventual outcome, because the outcome for ND is yet to be determined, but compare by the obvious, UK got man handled in both games. Period.

    UKDUDE2

  • Hey dude how can you sit there and actually believe anything you just posted? UCONN had multiple pro's on that team and everybody knew the way UCONN had played up to that point that we were in trouble. Plus that was in Maui where we had played three games in three day's, Knight had no legs as most of the other guy's had no legs. Jones had a monster game but mainly because they shut Knight and Lamb down and Jones was able to have a nice game shooting. To compare the two games is crazy and maybe you should have done more research. We had almost a whole week in between games and our boy's couldn't have asked to more rested, the Knight team played three games in a row and we only went like 6 or 7 deep because of Enes being ineligable. Another big difference is UCONN had the best player in the country that year or at least the best scorer who eventually went on to win player of the year honors. Do you honestly think any of the ND players will win that award this year? And yes they do have one maybe two guy's that will make an NBA team but probably won't be high draft picks. Again I understand some of us fans want to think that this team will be fine and again I hope thats the case but until they start competing on every play on both ends, which they don't right now and I think we can agree on that at least I hope. I mean because I've said something negative against coach Cal doesn't mean I don't love him as our coach and doesn't mean I don't love this team because we could lose every game and I will still bleed UK blue till the day I'm no longer on this earth. But even I can see what happened and even I can see that this years team is not even on the same page as the previous teams and until they start playing hard at least defensively we are not going to be very good and will lose a ton of games against top competition.
