Because he wasn't effective got back doored and didn't really play with the fire he did against Maryland. Noel has to watch tapes of Davis, he goes after every head fake everyone of them. Had he not this game may have went another way, instead of giving up an easy lay-in he blocks that shot and who knows what happens. Another thing we have to improve on greatly is our free throw shooting, but Proythress and Noel were really impresive on the offensive end but our defense isn't even close to what we will be come March. This team also needs Harrow to pan out and be a point guard, heck if nothing else he can be a better defender than May's or Polson just wonder if he was healthy if Curry would have gotten so many open three's. All in all this was a tough game that Cal will use to motivate and now our boy's need to understand that we have always been under Cal the best defensive coach in the country. Only way we can make a run another FF is to once again become the best defensive team we can be and right now were not even close!

Really you have to be excited about this game. We played an experienced, well coached, and talented team. A top 10, maybe top 5 team for the rest of the year. We are all young and were missing our starting pg. We hung in there and then some. Poythress finally showed up and he is going to be a national poy candidate. The defense was better. The blocking out was better. Neither anywhere near where they need to be but they improved and that's all you can ask from game to game. Get better. And they are. FT shooting killed us and that's one area that is difficult to improve. That could hurt us later. And I completely agree with the head fakes on Noel. He bites every time. Blocked shots are good. They are sexy. They get on sportscenter. And they sometimes hurt the overall defense when 3 defenders are jumping and trying to block everything. I'd rather have solid defense with 5 blocks a game rather than trying to swat everything and getting killed with fakes and interior passes that lead to baskets. That will improve as well. As I've heard Dicky V say about 4 or 5 times now, "If you wanna beat em you better beat em now".

I agree with pretty much Carl said here.
Except the FT. Some of you guys are just obsessed about FT.
We shot 14/21 from FT, which is 67%. If we shot respectable 75-80% as a team, we would have scored 2-3 more points.
If we have shot as good as the current best FT shooting team, we would have gained 5 pts.
Again, that will NEVER happen at UK.
I am more concerned about Noel (like stated above) going after everything, even fakes. What Davis did amazing was, he never got FAKED. So even ones he didn't blocked had much more different flight than normal. He may have blocked 4.7 per game, but he altered another 5-6 per game. It was absolutely insane defense. Right now Noel shows sign, but he is no where near the ability Davis was.
We also got out rebounded by Duke. No offense to Duke, but Duke isn't an example of a great rebounding team. They got out rebounded by Georgia State Panthers (who the eff are they?). We should have won the rebounding match by 5-7 against duke, yet we lost by 1.
Our defense will come in time. They usually do, i think rebound will. In fact i believe everything will improve in time, so i am not really worried.
