LSU's defense is nasty

  • It's going to be a long night when we go down there. Our O is going to have to improve quite a bit to move the ball. It looks like they have 11 Winston Guys on defense, but when they go fir the big hit instead of solid wrap up, they destroy whoever they're hitting. With the way their D is playing, their offense is good enough to beat anyone whether they get their street fighting QB back or not. They're a fast, strong, physical team who executes well.

  • Honestly I don't see anybody scoring much on that defense. I think it will take a lot of turnovers or scoring off of special teams to beat them. They just have too much talent on that defense, it's everywhere at every position.

  • Oh and I meant for ANYBODY to beat them, wasn't referring to UK.

I agree. I'm already counting down to that LSU-Alabama game. Or, as it likely will end up, the National Championship play-in game.

  • The athleticism on that D is simply incredible.

Yeah, it will probably take LSU making a few dumb mistakes for them to lose to anyone this year.

  • Crazy combination of strength up front and athleticism in the secondary. Just crazy.

  • LSU and 'Bama will win with D and do just enough on O this season. Their match-up might end 6-3. But, it's hard to follow teams like that because they do not have an explosive offense that can put teams away. Their D's are stout, but it's likely their match-ups with very good teams, like Arkansas, might be scary. Petrino's teams can usually move it, and score, on anyone. Do the Tigers and Tide have enough offense to keep up with the Hogs, if Petrino can figure out their D's?

  • Based on watching their previous games, I cannot understand all the (pre-game) love MSU was getting in this game from the talking heads. I don't bet, but based on some of the idiocy I'm seeing from the pundits, I may have to reconsider. For example, several media types were picking UGA over Boise (ridiculous). Also, Danny Sheridan said that MSU would straight up beat LSU (and he's always willing to bet someone a million dollars!)

how much of that is pre-game hype to increase interest in the games?

  • One other, don't buy into all this hype about UT winning at the Swamp. UF wins by at least a TD, and Bray isn't the media darling he was going into the game.

    DACats86

  • Not sure about that. Bray looks like the real deal to me. I love his throwing motion. Don't get me wrong, hate the Vols, but I can also recognize and acknowledge talent.

That Tennessee offense is hitting on all cylinders.

Yeah that was what I was thinking. Those were both BIG BOY DEFENSES. That game was a prime example of why it is so tough to get wins in the SEC

Completely agree DA. I mean they've played Montana and Cincinnati. I'd say they'll have more trouble against Florida's D and UF's offense won't have any trouble putting up points on UT's D.

Shoot, I think being in the mix for both the SEC and BCS titles virtually every year can kind of override having to root for a team with a suspect offense.

Sorry, I did not mean to imply I would not root for them. As a fan of those teams, it is tough/stressful having a team that is great on D and suspect on O. Ultimately, they allow teams to stay in games. And, a game against a team like Arkansas can be very dangerous due to not having an O that can keep up with the Hogs if the D falters.

  • Lol @ UGA being picked over Boise State by pundits as being ridiculous. The only ridiculous thing about it is that Boise beat UGA. Boise would get swamped by Tennessee, Arkansas, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi State, and would have a tough time beating Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

Perhaps if Boise St. was in the SEC, but in a one-game match-up, like the game against UGa, it's hard to pick against the Broncos. They bring it against big foes. But, they only have to prepare for a couple of those a year.

  • I agree with a lot of you guys that LSU's defense is pretty ridiculous. However, last night Chris Relf was constantly getting them into 3rd and long because he flat out refused to throw the ball away.

  • I was praying that Brooks would make a play for Chavis when Fulmer left UT in 2008. Chavis kelpt Fulmer in his career another 5 years at least at the end of his tenure.
