Lamar Dawson

  • I noticed he's 2nd string on the depth chart at USC. Man, I hate not getting him but good for him that he's already 2nd string.

  • Who?

  • Hope he does well out there. Always liked Lamar as a person. But I'd probably be more impressed if he was 2nd string at the better USC - the one UK has to play. cool

  • Hope he's able to accomplish what he's attempting to do which is get in the NFL. No doubt he'll have a better shot at USC than he would have at KY.

  • dont you mean Chester Ford?? , playing for Lane Kiffin is not good for anything, and it wont be for the NFL either, the first two years Boyle County Player will have a Bowl Ban along with his Jr/SR year when the full force of the sanctions will hit. so no it wont increase his shot at the NFL

  • There is still LOADS of talent on the USC squad and for people to downplay the accomplishment of him making the 2-deep at LB there is nothing but sour grapes. Kudos to him for doing well. That is one hell of an accomplishment for a true freshman out there.

  • Hope he does well but I wish he were playing here. Water under the bridge.

Not trying to call you out, but this is not true. Brother, if you can play at the next level, they'll find you no matter where you play, the combine. Take a look at NFL rosters, players from every division of football, and schools I have never heard of.

Personally, I think our coaches do a fine job of preparing our kids to play at the next level, and so do NFL coaches. Someone can dig up the quotes NFL coaches have used when talking about Kentucky players, and the manner in which they were prepared for the league.

I ain't looked it up, but I'd say we are on TV as much as SC-W is as well, imho.

  • Dawson doesnt deserve any credit or any praise on this site. Why in the hell any UK fan cares what a local kid who burned his home town school is up to is mind blowing to say the least. I only wish but on thing for Mr.Dawson and thats a MB treatment.............

  • I just can't fault a 17-year-old kid for going to Southern Cal. I just can't bring myself to do it.

This. Who wouldn't want to go study at USC? I love UK but you can hardly fault a kid for wanting to go out there to Cali!

This. Southern California's got it all over Lexington between the beaches, warm winters, and hot chicks. I hate he didn't come to UK, but I don't wish ill-will on a 17 year old kid who made a hard choice.

  • I hope Lamar tears it at SC. It's a great school and is located in southern California. Football aside, that is tough to pass up. If he's #2 as a true FR, and stays healthy, he's in a position to do something big and make it to the NFL.

I don't understand your reaction. The kid got the hell out of the state, to realize his dream. Faulting him for that makes little to no sense to me.

    Keep Calm & Stoops On..

  • I have about the best sources on Lamar Dawson you can have. You can thank Rick Minter first of all, second USC did a hell of a job recruiting this kid, third, the kid needed to get away from Danville.

    Edge

Exactly. It's no different than a kid deciding not to stay home and play for a mediocre, at best, hoops program when they can go to UK. Some will do it, but most will choose the more high-profile choice, especially if they really just want to get away.

    mjdotson

  • I'm not going to wish him success just because he is from KY. He can disappear into oblivion for all I care. Not saying I blame him for his choice, hell, I live in Los Angeles, it's awesome, but I'm not rooting for the kid, I'm not even paying attention.

    I'm like gunslinger, "who?".

  • Interesting CousinCarl, I hadn't heard that Minter had a negative impact with his recruiting. I hate to hear that. In what way did he hurt the effort?

I don't fault him for going out of state to a play for a national football power. I think he made a terrible choice in USC, but hey that's his prerogative. What I do fault him for is stringing UK along during the whole recruiting process when he had no interest in coming to UK. For that reason, I agree with one of the posters above - there's no way that kid should get praise on this or any other UK fan site.

    To hell with Lamar Dawson

Yeah I was wondering about this too. Does anyone know what this is a reference to?

While I will not say that Lamar was a UK lean, I think Chuck could have closed the deal when it would have all been said and done. However, on one of the last recruiting visits, Rick Minter wanted some one on one time with Lamar. After that meeting, UK went from probably co-leader to 3rd.

Another a couple of things. Lamar was going to UF until Urban meyer left.

One more note. USC does a fantastic job of taking care of their recruits when they visit and I don't mean paying them or showing them the beautiful girls. They Especially take care of the recruits that are not used to the big city. They make the recruit feel safe and will take care of them if they make the move out there. Don't Like Kiffin, but his staff did a hell of a job.

Also guys, he really just needed a change of scenary from what I have been told. I don't want to make it personal and don't know is family what so ever, but he really wanted to get out of Danville. If he had gone to UK, it would have been his loyalty to Chuck and his relationship with him. You have to remember, Chuck didn't coach him, so it was never the slam dunk we thought.

He did not string UK along...And if UK doens't go after him, we are bitching that how can UK not go after a kid that lives 30 minutes away. He fell in love with USC, with Kiffin's dad approach on D and also again, he really wanted to get out of Danville. And again, Urban Meyer doesn't leave UF, Nobody gets stringed along and he commits to UF.

Don't try to pin this on Minter. If Dawson wanted to be a Wildcat nothing would have stopped him.

Minter tells recruits "Truths", "Facts", and doesn't BS them. Some kids can handle that and others...well they can't!

And your right, USC does take real good care of their recruits. Which is why their on probation and one of their Heisman winners had to give the award back. Yeah USC is does a really good job of taking small town Ky boys and making them feel really safe. But I wonder how safe they feel at the parties and clubs they take them to on official visits?

That USCheat coaching staff is about as slimmy as you can get. I would NEVER let my son play for and be coached by Lane Kiffen, Ed Orgeron and Willie Mark Garza but hey to each his own.

They feel real safe, they DO take care of their recruits when they are at parties, trust me. My information isn't some made up BS,
