Lamb and MKG rumor

  • This is from the twitter account of Wildcatrecruits, which I am not familiar with but thought it was worth putting on the board since Zagoria reported earlier that Jones,Davis, and Teague are all set in their decision to announce.

    CC - UK Recruiting ‏ @WildcatRecruits
Cal advising Lamb to return as he'll be leader on next years team, get more PG time, & draft is softer next year. Family still to decide.

And goes on to say this about MKG:

    CC - UK Recruiting ‏ @WildcatRecruits
As for MKG, he's basically looking for an excuse to return, but Cal likely advising him to put name in the draft. Family still deciding.

    excuse to return. :-D

He needs to develop his jump shot so he can contribute better in NBA right away. He needs to become more 2/3 offensively.

    He is also freakishly young.

  • We would be major Preseason #1 if Lamb and MKG came back.

I hope MKG comes back. :-( I know I'm being selfish.

  • As I've said in a different thread I can understand why Lamb could possibly need to return. Honestly on current projections I think it makes good sense for him to return unless he has a family emergency or he is being advised that he's capped out as a late first round early second round pick and can't move up next year.

MKG returning makes no kind of sense unless it's a family concern about his age and maturity. He is young and as anyone who's read any literature on the NBA knows that league is wild, especially off the court. Eveythting else about him, put on muscle or develop a jump shot isn't a real reason to return, he can get paid to do that in the NBA and as a top 5 pick any team that takes him will be very patient with his development if it is slow out of the gate. However I could understand if he or his family simply didn't think he was ready for that lifestyle yet, only scenario that makes sense IMO.

  • Lamb coming back doesn't change is draft range IMO. MKG would be foolish to come back! Not saying I wouldn't be happy but only on a selfish level. He needs to make money now and he can always come back for his education if that's what he wants.

  • All 5 announcing at a press conference tomorrow. Means they're all gone I imagine.

    Shamisoshea23

  • I would think that Lamb could develop into a top 10 pick (or higher) if he could learn to play the point like a "Cal style PG". Then he will be able to guard just about any opposing PG in the league and not be a liability due to his height.

MKG Should leave, but man I hope he stays.

  • If MKG stays do we still get Bennett? What say you all?

If MKG did theoretically return I think Bennett would still be in play because theres still a ton of playing time available at the 4 with Wiltjer. Don't see it being an issue though since MKG is all but gone.I think Bennett has quietly become a monster recruitment, UK needs him badly next year.

Right. He's got all kinds of reasons to return. Unfortunately, the money for a Top 5 spot is just too much to pass up. I just hope he doesn't get the "let's look for a negative" treatment and see his stock slide.

Bennett could be used as a 4 in college, but he's never really played it much before. His game and mindset are more 3-oriented, and that's going to be a big part of his eventual decision. That's why Florida's been one of his top schools.

  • Bennett will play a the wing on offense, as in the dribble drive, you play basically one post player on the weak side. Of course, they morph into different sets at times , but Bennett and Poythress will be able to use their basketball weapons to be special offensively on the court at the same time. What an awesome tandom that would be !

Kind of like a T.Jones? As long as he can guard at the PF spot, I think that's why we need him so bad, someone with his body type. As for offense as we know in this system whatever you are good at is what you'll be doing, Jones has a PF body with SF skills and things have turned out well for him.

Yeah. He can definitely defend some 4s. He's got the bulk and athleticism for that. Offensively, his mentality is more suited toward running the floor and facing up. I don't think I've ever seen him post someone up in an AAU game.

  • Everyone mentions the draft position and the first contract, but I wonder the if a second year wouldn't generate some significantly higher endorsement contracts and whatever percentage they might get on jersey sales.

this is why Cal shouldn't "force" him out. it's his decision alone, not Cal's.

There's a difference between "forcing him out" and pointing out that it's a really stupid decision to pass up being the #2 pick in the NBA draft.

Plus if kids stick around in those situations it doesn't necessarily do a lot of Cal's sales pitch.
