Langston Newton gets his UK offer!

  • Per Aaron Cordero and Morgan just announced it on twitter.

Morgan's tweet: Proud of the little bruh @Langnewt84 on the UK offer today, I thought I set the bar high and here he comes! #bigtime #bbn

  • I say we have this one in the bag. It has been a long time coming.

  • Agreed Josh. There is NO way Langston doesn't come to UK.

  • I think he will be our next commitment but I wouldn't be surprised if--and I hope he doesn't--UKhas a bad year and fans blame him Langston may choose to go elsewhere.

  • Good news, but he's going to get more offers based on his Nike camp performance. I do not expect him to jump on the UK offer (but I hope he does).

some think the fans have ran him off and he won't come to UK.

  • Those fans are wrong.

I am not going to say he is a done deal though, because I was told that in the past and got burnt.

  • Great to hear he finally got the offer! Hope he's our next commitment.

  • Good to see he got the offer, but I am a bit puzzled at his offer sheet after hearing for the last 6 months how he is the next great thing and how his offers would rival, if not surpass, those that his brother had. I guess time will tell. He certainly should see more interest after this last combine performance, though. Hopefully his brother sees a wealth of appreciation from our fans this year (generally speaking, as I know some of the fringe will attack him no matter what) and he decides UK is where he wants to be.

Recruiting is an odd animal and it often takes the shape of whoever is writing the article.

As for him being our next commitment, I truly expect at least a handful before the end of June. Our Blue Lights camps are going to be heavily attended. David Washington wasn't even on our radar at this point last year and he ended up committing soon after because of it. Couple that with UK already being named leaders for over a half a dozen prospects and it should be an interesting couple of weeks.

Never underestimate how some of our few but foolish fans can drive a reruit away when things do not go as "they plan" on a football field. If Morgan throws a couple of pics and they start acting foolish the guy could say "I want none of this." I hope we get him and we go to a New Years Day bowl but I never count my chicken till... we'll you know.

    flknopp

  • You could be correct in that. It would be foolish for us to believe that negative fans don't have an impact on football recruiting when we know how beneficial it is in basketball recruiting. On the flipside, every fanbase has that ignorant section, including our basketball fans. Unfortunately, they are usually also the most vocal.

  • Do you all even pay attention to what happens in the SEC? Even our critical fans are pretty mild when you get into Knoxville, Tuscaloosa and Gainsville. Those who continue to think that fans on an internet board are instrumental in getting a player to attend or stay away from a school are overestimating their own importance. Also if you step into the arena as an athlete you are opening yourself to criticism from coaches, critics, and fans. That is just life. If a few ninnies sitting in their den writing on a message board are going to make you run and hide then you have no place on the field in the SEC.

    zcats

  • Maybe or maybe not that some recruits are influenced by critical comments on message boards. Some recruits/players have thick skins and some don't.

But does the bad behavior of your neighbors justifies the uncivilized behavior of UK fans?
Isn't that like condoning your child robbing a convenient store by saying it is OK since your neighbor kids did it also?

  • First, football is uncivilized. Dressage is civilized. Football is controlled mayhem.

Second, most players and coaches don't care much at all about what the fans think as long as they show up at the games and make noise. They know that the vast majority of fans know very little about the game. Players respect the opinions of coaches and players, fans and media, not so much.

Third, no, realizing that fans on message boards are not as influential as they may think is nothing like conditioning your child to rob a convenient store. Did you really mean that? Were you one of my Vacation Bible School teachers?

It was an analogy, not to be taken literally.
Basically others' bad behavior does not justify someone else's.

Question about Blue Light Camp please? I read the UK offical description and other than "seniors to be only" what makes the Blue Light Camp any different than other Uk camps?

    Please advise

If I'm not mistaken, it is more of an "elite camp" in that they are more selective about who is invited, and I believe they do more "showing off" about the program instead of just running drills and teaching skills.
