Let the Petrino bidding begin....

  • Since Mitch has essentially ruled out any chance of UK pursuing Petrino, who will hire him first, Auburn or Florida? Could easily see him at one of those 2 spots by Nov.

    By Nov?

I think Tennessee and Texas are possibilities as well

  • I doubt he'll get an opportunity at any of those places mentioned. And what makes you think Auburn will be looking for a coach. They don't look good this year but firing a coach two years after winning a national championship is tough to fathom. Barnhart won't hire him. Might end up at Da Ville if Strong leaves to take the UF or Arky job. UT might not be looking for a coach. They sure looked good in their first game of the season.

  • FYI... here's a cool site (blog) to follow those coaches who are on the hot seat

Agreed, I think Dooley gets to stick around, they have been young and inexp the past few years and now they are looking like a top SEC school yet again, anyone that saw last weeks game vs NC ST should agree.

Florida or Tenn. I think Strong will be a Florida candidate this time too.

  • It'll be interesting to see how hiring Petrino will work out. He is obviously a very good coach and great offensive mind. But, there is a TON of baggage that accompanies the hire. Has he finally been humbled? Has he learned from his bevy of mistakes?

Rest assured, a big program will roll the dice on him.

  • Don't care as long as it isn't UK.

    Extremely risky roll, IMO.

I have to say I agree but when Auburn is involved I don't think they really care about etiquitte (sp). They tried to steal the guy from UL, lost him, got in a bidding war for Cam Newton, and then hired Chizik who had less than a stellar resume (I would call him a puppet). They're 0-2 and will get rolled by 'bama this year, guaranteed.

If the powers to be at Auburn (the boosters) decide they want a new coach then they would do it by the end of the weekend. Trust me, AU fans have a very short memory and could care less about the "let's at least give a coach three years mentality". It's not exactly like you're rebuilding when you when the NC.

These guys won't deal with a subpar record two years removed from the NC. They have the money, the boosters, the facilities, and the fanbase that just won't put up with it. And they will still fill the stands either way.

    Crazy bunch.

Maybe old BillyG missed his calling, he should have been a football coach. lol

  • Petrino will neaver coach in the SEC again people. He has made every boss that hired him look bad.

He is a head case for sure.

  • You Petrino guys crack me up. He was not fired because he had an affair. He was fired due to his hiring his mistress and the circumstances surrounding it. There were also other circumstances that never became public. The guy is toxic and was heading for trouble before his motorcycle accident. How quickly u all forget. Why cant u just enjoy the win tonight and let the players play and coaches coach. There were good things to see tonight if u would just take your blinders off. I know you are going to tell me I have my blue shades on, no far from it. I saw some improvement not where we need to be bit I see some nice young talent on defense that is getting better. I also see a much improved offense which is similar to your beloved Leach offense. So get over yourselves and try being supportive and the season will unfold as it will and we shall see where we stand then. The coaching conversation just 2 games in is crazy.

  • Glad we are not in this discussion. With his history with Auburn and thier desperation to get back to competing with Bama, they would probably take him.

I don't give a flying frog about Petrino. You can put his sludge in your pipe and smoke it.

    ShockeyFork

  • Auburn is going to have some issues with Chiz's gaudy buyout. Tennessee is looking pretty good right now and should they beat Florida next week I'd say Dooley is likely off the hot seat. I don't see Florida hiring Petrino but instead someone like Strong instead.

Auburn is most likely if they can dig real deep to do it. Otherwise I don't see it if it isn't us. Too much baggage for a bigger program that could easily go elsewhere.

Think Strong is all Arkansas' after this season. Born there, played at Central Arkansas in college. Just all seems to be lining up imo.

He has also taken both of his college programs to their only ever BCS bowl appearances. Headcase, without morals or values....but damn does he win, and win big, and play an exciting attacking style of play in doing so. 41-9 in 4 years at UL. 21-3 his last 2 seasons at Arkansas. Left both programs with top 10 teams (not his fault the AD's replaced him with awful coaches).

Ummm....yes....it actually IS on him that Arkansas replaced him with a sub-par coach. His stupidity forced Arkansas to try and make a coaching hire at a time when no one is ever available. At UaVel, he ran a renegade program that was full of thugs. By the time Kragthorpe took out the trash, he wasn't left with much. It's indisputable that Bobby Petrino has royally **BLEEPED** over EVERYONE who has employed him as a head coach.

Definitely possible. I think at the very least he ends up somewhere in the SEC. He's smart enough to know that Louisville, even if they achieve some success this season or the next, is on the road to losing that AQ status and likely on the outside looking in when a playoff comes as long as they're in the Big East.
