Let the Petrino bidding begin....

  • Its sort of funny that when this happened with Petrino everybody said he'd be lucky to get an opportunity anywhere at all. Now that some teams are struggling his name is popping up everywhere. This is only fan talk though. I wonder what some of these AD's and big time boosters are really thinking.

He has also taken both of his college programs to their only ever BCS bowl appearances. Headcase, without morals or values....but damn does he win, and win big, and play an exciting attacking style of play in doing so. 41-9 in 4 years at UL. 21-3 his last 2 seasons at Arkansas. Left both programs with top 10 teams (not his fault the AD's replaced him with awful coaches).

so you hire a headcase and hope he turnes your program around and in the end you know he will stab you in the back and maybe get you fired with him. ??????

Wow how many UK fans would do this ????? seems like a ton of you would.

  • Ten Foot Pole U. might take him.

  • Would I hire him? NO! He is a short term hire. He would be looking for the first plane out of Lexington.

  • If Strong jumps to the Hawgs or Gaytors, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Bobby P return to the loving arms of Lil Tommy Turtleneck and rehab his wounded rep in the Pizza Pit for a couple of years capitalizing on the talent at Trinity - he'd probably have the inside position on Timmons and he might be able to flip Bivins too.

  • Petrino is done as a major Hc. He's messed up 2 programs so far..and shown he has no loyalties to anything but money and himself.. UK does NOT need a football coach..we have a good one. Weve been to more bowls the last 6 years than the previous 20..JOker has shown the ability to evaluate under the radar kids and turn them into nfl players. We've beat the national champs, ended a 26 yr long winless drought vs Tenn, beat Spurrier for the 1st time EVER..and we played Bama closer than anyone in thier championship run years..we've beat Ga between the hedges..all during Jokers tenure as HC or HC in waiting. Oh, yeah..and we had Auburn and Cam on the ropes year before last..when they won it all. Joker has shown he more than deserves his job..Uk has never been better during my lifetime.

Wrong.. Petrino will coach again at another BCS school.. He could be in the SEC as soon as next year if Dooley falls on his face the rest of the season.. Say what you want about the guy but he can flat out COACH..

  • Petrino will absolutely coach at a big time school, and probably in the near future. He'll just have to sign on to a really restrictive contract that will destroy him financially if he tries to leave or does something idiotic.

This is what I've been saying all along.

And Blue Dog, I'm not gonna even begin to argue about whether Joker is a good Head Coach or not, but if you are going to make that claim, please don't use the bowl games where he was not Head Coach to back your point. It's just irrational, and holds no weight.

Completely correct. Petrino is a huge bigtime winner, and that a BCS program that knows winning football games is the most important function of an athletic department will snap him up this December. Anyone who doesnt recognize that is likely also befuddled by all the conference expansion and realignment.

Sad fact is Petrino will probably have better opportunities of programs to lead than the University of Kentucky, so the debate about him being worthy enough to be our coach is moot anyway....

  • Barnhart will not entertain the thought of this guy. So kind of a dead horse to beat. Think the same men who pushed for Calipari are going to need to be heard to even start this conversation to be quite honest.

Unfortunately I doubt there is anyone of influence who can be the adults and take the hiring of the next UK football coach out of Barnhart's hands the way it was with the basketball program 3 years ago

And the restriction/morality clauses will curb the drama off the field. I don't recall any major football violations as far as recruiting or others that would jeopardize the schools integrity. People don't have to be moral saints to be good at their jobs. ie... Bill Clinton, JFK (not comparing just an example)

That being said I wouldn't be opposed to Petrino as long as he was micro-managed in the beginning. I don't know that he "destroyed" 2 programs, as someone earlier said, he did leave them willingly and unwillingly. I could be very wrong on the no violations like I said I don't remember any.

I just don't understand the anti-Petrino faction with this fan base. You want a big named program changer but, not the one you could have today if called. just my opinions

The problem is that if you're going to go out and get a guy who may leave your program for another job (being realistic) you want someone who will leave the program better off then when they came in. Petrino will not do that. He brings in a bunch of headcases that he can rule with an iron fist and when that's gone they cause major off the field issues for teams. See Louisville and see Arkansas.

I would much rather see someone like Leach before I would Petrino.
